Seems a bit high. 8 months of on and off work. You realize at say $25 an hour, that you figure such a project would take 4000 hours? When I was addicted to WoW for a month I clocked in at 300 hours, i.e. 10 hours a day. How the hell are you going to hit 4000 in 8?
4000 hours in 8 months is 16-17 hours of work a day including weekends... screw that!
I would quite happily take 50-75K for 8 months work working on it 7-8 hours a day not including my weekends, to me that would seem a fair and reasonable price.
a. Working from home
b. on my own equipment
c. in my own time, but even then you can't promise that the project would take 8 months
Even Tofu underestimated that, you have now pushed back release 2-3 months?
Mates, I said two people. So it is 8-9 hours a day 7 days a week, you did not halve the 4000 to compensate for 2 people, divide it by 8(hours) then divide by 30(days in a month) = 8.3months. So if you double your 50/75 for two peeps that equals 100,000-150,000, ta da. Same answer as me mate.
A modder would probably ask for $15/hr minimum and be expected to give 5+ hrs daily. A professional would take $25/hr at a bare minimum and would probably give 8 hrs per day.
Regardless, it's a fairly fixed amount of man hours (with more team members, the man hours in total might go up or down depending on how well people work together), so the going rate is all that really matters.
It depends entirely on what you want from your product and what your budget is. Tell us this and we can give you a better appraisal.

I don't mean to zombie this thread, but I am curious if there is a map in development.
