I am looking for someone to design a single player custom map for me for a personal project and will pay $1000 USD with potential for more. I am only interested in highly skilled map makers with a strong portfolio of maps. This is so I know you are building the map efficiently. Be prepared to show me your most complicated maps involving the most triggers and special programming.
It is a fairly complicated scenario and every aspect must be controlled tightly. It will probably involve significant programming within the editor and possibly use 3rd party tools. We can talk further about payment after I get a sense of how much work the map will be. There will be a back and forth revision process until the map functions flawlessly.
If you are interested in the job, I would love to have a Google hangout or skype meeting with you to talk it over. If this is not you, but you know of someone with a high level skill set who would be interested, please forward their information to [email protected] so I can ask them. Thank you!
The map would function as a prototype "proof of concept" for a game unrelated to SC2. I do not have the funds to finance the programming of a whole new game from scratch at this point. I will use the SC2 map to show investors something they can understand more easily than a written plan with illustrations. I understand this may not appeal to all map makers since it will never be released to the SC2 community, but maybe $1000 will spark your personal interest. I expect the project to take no longer than 100 hours, but since I am not a map maker, I cannot know for sure. If I learn that the project will take much longer than 100 hours, I will consider paying more. We need to have an online meeting and go over the gameplay so that you can give me a quote for hours. I am skill working out some of the final aspects of the gameplay, so I don't want to give out too much info in this post before I know it will work.
The map will be basically a couple hundred pre-scripted mini battles. The battles will be simple... One army attacking straight into another one while the AI builds structures. But, the battles must be controlled well by the map maker so they happen in the proper place and time with the proper result. The player has no affect on the outcome of these battles, but can build structures which are affected by the battles. The player gains points by having their structures untouched by the battle. They lose points by getting their structures blown up by a battle.
I will have a detailed log of data on which all of the 5-minute battles will be based.
An example of a data set for a specific 5-minute battle would be something like:
-10 marines vs. 10 roaches with respawn so there is constant fighting
-fighting will take place on precisely x part of the map
-player will only have vision of x part of map
-AI will build a certain structure at a certain position during the battle
-At certain times during the game, AI structures may change (ie. catch fire)
-Player can at any time build structures which are affected by battles
(For example if a player builds a structure during one 5-minute battle, the next 5 minute battle may move locations so that the player's structure is destroyed)
If you can design the map so that this log of data can be modified through a spreadsheet or something similar, that would be ideal. In other words, I could change the spreadsheet and the battles would play out differently. Does anyone know if this is possible?
I can't give every little detail out in this post, but will explain much more in an email or conversation.
To attract more mapmakers and convince them from your offer, I would suggest you to add more details, plans, and most of all, info about yourself in this job-offer. Best would be to add all this information to your first post so people dont have to read the scattered info you give.
I really want you and the lucky mapmaker(s) you choose to have a great cooperation, but I dont think that there will be anymore with the current state of your post. Please review and improve it.
Consider offering some level of stake in the "actual" project, even its nonmonetary. Maybe some consultation position or the potential for additional contracting work.
You may find better results if the mapmaker is attached in some way to the final product, maybe just his name somewhere in the credits. Rather than a "pump out product, get money, cut contact" setup. Especially because $10/hr isn't too great on its own.
A couple people have PMed me and we've had some good conversation about the concept for the game. There is indeed opportunity for further work in the future going far and beyond sc2 in terms of coding and mathematics. I think they are excited about the project now that I've explained it more. I know it would make it a more interesting post for the board if I explained everything here, but I don't want to give out the concept publicly. It is something I see others wanting to copy. If anyone is interested in learning more and has enough time and energy, drop me a PM.
good to hear, this was one of the most legit offers I have seen yet on the forum. I unfortunately do not have the time to commit what you would most likely want, but I hope you have a good productive time.

You should probably mention what it's all about - map makers usually won't join projects that they do not have a personal interest in :)

Is this something that can be achieved in under 100 hours?
Otherwise, unfortunately no one will work for below minimum wage. XD

That is my portfolio of everything I have ever made in the editor.

We had a similar case here http://www.sc2mapster.com/forums/general/team-recruitment/72128-sc2-dead-game/ where there was a job offer of 15€/workhour, but no one wanted it as there was little to no information given. Your offer seems to go a similar way, which would be very sad.

I updated the original post with more info. Hopefully this is enough info to interest some expert map makers to speak with me further.

I've made my decision and have found my map maker. Thank you all for helping me connect with the right person. Cheers!

You also have a very nice forum if you need ideas or you have questions
