SC2 Generals will be a series of arcade team missions similar to "Co-op missions" from Legacy of the Void. Players will choose from a selection of different Generals - subfactions that have unique units, buildings and abilities. My inspiration and ideas will come from Command Conquer Generals, Command Conquer Kane's Wrath and finally Age of Empires III.
Objectives:
Discuss SC lore and identify candidates for playable Generals. Examples are Judicator Aldaris, Jim Raynor, Fenix, Edmund Duke, Zeratul, Kerrigan, Gerald Dugalle, etc
Decide on what units and building each General can build. We are including campaign units. Examples are Goliaths, Dragoons, Firebats, Guardians, Shield battery, etc.
Create a pilot map where we test co-op effectiveness against waves of enemy waves.
Discuss and design different co-op missions
promote this map projects as an alternative to the Co-op missions found in Legacy in the Void.
Work so far:
The video up above is a demo map, just a visual concept of the character menu and it will definitely change. I've also created a public flow chart below to organize and decide what we will use. Here are some examples:
Recruitment:
If you are interested in the project, feel free to post! I am looking for anyone who would be interested in discussing ideas.
Region: Any
Timezone: North Americas, specifically Pacific Time Zone
Method of contact: Sc2mapster.com, skype, etc
What am I doing in the project: For now, I will be creating the map, doing the triggers, publishing it. I am interested in getting more players to see what they can contribute.
What roles do you need filled?I would appreciate starting up discussions on concepts and ideas to assist in deciding which characters to use, what units and what buildings.
What do you have done: still in concept stage.
Description of the team itself: it is just me right now, looking for others to contribute and help out.
How much time are you willing to invest: I'm willing to invest all my time when i'm not working
Who else is working on the project: its just me right now but again looking for others if interested. You can have little to no experience. When I used to map make, it would just be me making the map and getting feedback from all the testers.
I, for one, look forward to a rousing 3 player match with my dream team of Ariel Hanson, Tal'darim asshole guy, and ariel hanson.
More seriously, I do find the Co-op missions having the right spirit and totally lacking in proper execution. (I cringe every time the Hybrid just up and spawn next to the train in the one mission. Were they supposed to have "stepped out"?) I had just been thinking today what it would take to actually do better. (Aside from gating the most interesting abilities the maps offer)
Even if it is a set of just two different but genuinely entertaining maps that make it seem more like a proper series than a one-off map, I'd like to help.
Oh thank you A52BcE, I've added a video up top as a visual concept. There are lots of ideas that can expand on this.
The challenge I face is that there are 100 ways to go about on this and id need some help narrowing it down to a few.
You should avoid co-op commanders that require LotV and specially commanders that will cost money in the future, I believe Blizzard would ask you to remove them or simply take down the maps.
I disagree. I've only known Blizzard to take down maps that violated common decency or copyright. There's also no clause in the ToS that asks you to respect content locked behind paywalls. The only thing I think will really get you banned with regards to content is if you make something really egregious, like taking the entire WoL campaign and publishing each map to the arcade.
@TyaArcade: Go I had to remove HotS melee mod and maps because it emulated HotS ladder during closed beta, so yeah, I know what I'm talking about. Even though they changed their ways during LotV and allowed us to keep the mod published (and even advertised it as an option to people that were not invited to closed beta), I think they wouldn't want to have similar heroes in free maps. Yes, they also said at least once they would ban arcade maps that made the campaign missions available for free (I'm not sure if only one map would be enough, but I doubt it would require an entire campaign).
I was under the impression that these Generals are supposed to be different than co-op commanders. Therefor Raynor from this will play differently than Raynor from co-op commanders. Am I wrong?
@TyaArcade: Go I had to remove HotS melee mod and maps because it emulated HotS ladder during closed beta [...]
Well, this is just a friendly warning.
Thank you Soul, I appreciate the warning. I think that if someone is going to make a duplicate Co-op, Blizzard will remove it. My maps however will be different. My map is like SC Expanded, or left 2 die or any team based comp stomp maps.
It feels ironic because I did create posts discussing sub-factions awhile ago and I didn't get a lot of interest. I realized now that the b.net forum regulars are different than the SC arcaders; SC arcaders are too busy playing and not posting comments.
With the success of CO-OP and how SC arcade is free, I have a few friends that are going to try out SC for the 1st time, ill teach him SC while I show them my map. Part of the enjoyment of the project is also finding a group of regular arcade players to test hundreds of times.

I think what happened was soulfilcher created a mod that played like Hots when Hots came out so thats why.
The maps I will be making will be original ideas. I've already have a lot of ideas for it.... just need to narrow it down.
I believe Traysent said on this very forum when there was discussion about using Heroes of the Storm content in SC2 he basically said as long as nobody sets out to recreate Heroes of the Storm as a mod for StarCraft 2 they're fine with it. I'd imagine it would be something similar with Co-op - as long as you're not setting out to make a mod that plays exactly like Co-op mode, you'll probably be ok...
Slightly related: Prior to the last BlizzCon I was considering making a mod with the idea of Race skins as a kind of proof of concept suggestion to Blizzard. And what do they announce at BlizzCon? Racial unit skins x)
Blizzard team does quietly observe all suggestions and ideas. When SC2 was just announced and concept unit names were released, I created Desert Strike Night as a tribute on SC1. I used the protoss reaver and renamed it the Infestor. Afterwards, they dramatically changed the infestor model and made it look like a giant caterpiller - the reaver ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Well the funny thing is I hadn't posted my race skin idea anywhere except in a private chat with a friend on Skype, and I doubt Blizzard's eyes are THAT extensive ;P
I edited the top page to add an image of what i've been doing. I'm using lucidchart.com which allows me to display flowchart boxes and move them around. Also, can set permission for others to make live changes to the document.
My project updates will further be in the project page. I created a website to help organize: http://sc2generals.enjin.com/

Sounds cool. I'd be up for some play/bug testing when you're further along.

Thank you, im hoping to get lots of feedback when I start experimenting with ideas. Ill be publishing a lot of versions.
