So far so good with the project. It doesn't have a name yet, but this all started with one idea on the ideas/suggestions thread and has grown to become an actual project, though for now we've stuck to private messages until some concrete progress can be shown. The goal is to gather up various mapmakers across mapster to come and add their contribution to the project. We're currently taking a hands-off approach and only building one level at a time, no ambitious plans to be had. With each mission, we're alternating mapmakers; a new content creator can contribute their level or even several content creators can group together to contribute a level, whatever you want. The point is, we're trying to get other content creators out there to contribute and so far we've got 2 mapmakers and we need more.
If they're meant to be completed back one at a time by single authors or a single group, how are you planning to handle it when there are multiple people in the queue waiting?
Currently the solution is simple, there's almost no one in the queue. xD
Edit: But on a serious note, whenever you aren't working on something, you can always help out the current person/people working on maps (this includes testing, providing feedback, adding polish when it's finished on their side). Also, if the story of the previous levels are figured out, I think at that point, the next mapmaker can feel free to continue where the last mapmaker left off.
Your project idea does sound interesting, but I think it would help a lot if you display your first map as an example of what you would like to be happening with this series.

Originally, the idea was to have the style of the campaign change as missions are handed off between creators. The main purpose of this was to avoid theorycrafting forever and actually make something (which has happened!). So, if someone wants to pick up another mission they are free to do what they want with gameplay as long as the story they create respects what's been created already. Alternatively, if someone wants to come in and be given strict guidelines of what to make, we could provide that as well. Again, this just started and the main goal is to have this be a collaborative effort that actually creates something rather than going nowhere. I know that it's at least met this objective because yukaboy has already created a very clean first map and he had pretty much total creative control :)
Visit my channel where I showcase custom content! Send me a PM or respond to my YouTube thread if you'd like to see your map/s on my channel (eventually!)
As Yukaboy said there is also room for improvements once the original map creator has done his part. Maps can always benefit from better terrain, UI and other things, and unlike other campaigns the idea is that other people are welcome to do that.
- Are you playing as Hybrid or against them?
- Are maps build & destroy style or something else?
I also really love the idea of Hybrids and I even planned to add some Hybrids to my own campaign as "spinoff" mission. I am busy at the moment fixing my own campaign to LotW time but later I am willing to help you by making a map or something.
Be sure to check out the extension mod: Hots Custom Map support on NA and EU, Despite the name it greatly expands the roster of options for the default 3 races and is updated all the way to NCO.
I had this fear after creating the thread, but don't worry, the first level will be presentable very soon. At most in a few days.
-child voice- Is it done yet?
I'd be willing to contribute, but I think it is important to show off how it is going to start off first.
If the idea is to begin quickly and have a hands-off approach... taking a long time and getting off schedule seems like a bad sign to me.
Currently, the terrain is being polished up. I was told it would only be a couple of days to finish the first half, so I assumed it'd only be a few days, but it's taking a lot longer than expected. The next time frame I was told was "next week" and that'll be tomorrow, so I hope to say that tomorrow, the terrain will be 50% complete. If that knowledge brings you peace, then awesome, otherwise, you'll just have to live with it until it's done. I won't give out a schedule for when the levels will be completely done, but it is being worked on.
Just know that a lot of these "delays" are somewhat due to the thanksgiving holidays and the weekend that came afterwards. Jayborino already said he'd be travelling for that time and he should be back just about now. Hoping things will pick up again and we can start showing what we've got here.

Edit: Just a note, we only started this thing 3 days ago.

@Terhonator: You're playing as the Hybrid.
I am interested in this, I may offer my data mod as a base for the project after a look at the first mission.

@Templarfreak: Go

@ThePhail: Go He means the skype group used by the LotV custom mod team, some of us still use it fr other purposes.
