First off, Bravo on the amazing idea nad cool stargate animations already. Shit looks pro.
2ndly, I was wondering how you are going to balance this game. I mean it sounds like a generic question but say you goto Planet ABC, all things on Planet ABC are lvl 2 and so its easy for a group of Lvl 1's to go about and lvl up.... Then they go bacl to the warpgate and punch in the code for planet XYZ.... Planet XYZ is lvl 15 and all theese new lvl 2 players get stomped. It seems to me that your going to need a Modifier or a Linear progression of worlds.
Linear progression would be easy, You only give the Hero's codes or access to planets that are currently thier level range if they are lvl 5 give them access to lvl 3 - 7 Planets.
A modifier would be more like how Morrowing for 360 did it.. as players lvl up so do all the monsters on the world.
Modifier = Player LVL.
Monster Lvl = Monster Lvl x Player LVL
This would make every world just the right lvl for the players. To adjust difficulty you could have Say Monster lvl as 1.25 and when they multiply that by like player lvl 4 the monsyers would be a lvl harder... TBH I dont like this way of playing a game because in a RPG there are supposed to be worlds that your not supposed to walk into, a sense of danger and oh shit maybe i shouldnt be here.
Anyways, from a game designer perspective your ideas are amazing and yet they bring challenging balance issues that you need to tackle.
yeah well the balancing will have kinda both actually.
there will be the main story, thats balanced linear - the first level is level 1, the last planet has level 150 (example) so if you would be able to go there at level 1, youre just an instant kill to anything.
also there are the random side missions.
its like on these diablo clones you probably know them, torchlight or mythos.. you find gate addresses that are designed for level x - can be every level but the most of what you find will match your actual level.
so you can find some of level 1 for level 30, but also on level 50 for level 10.
also it will be possible to share these addresses with other people through an PDA like device the player has to keep track of discovered addresses, planets, encountered enemys etc. etc.
Well, you sure have my interest piqued. Id love to help out with some Game Design Ideas and balancing and story. I went to school for Game Design, so its kind of my thing. If you would like some help id be more then happy to toss in.
Hey there, I used to watch Sg1 with my dad every day and still do watch it from time to time, on of my favorite sci-fi series.
I'm decent with the data editor and would be willing to help out a bit. I just don't know how much time I would be able to invest in the project as I'm currently working on a few things. Anyways send me a PM and we can discuss further(IM program/Vent would be much easier)
I am fairly interested in getting involved in this project, though I am not sure in what Capacity yet. But first off I have a couple questions;
Will you be going into this Solo or will your character lead an SG-# team of NPCs?
When, in relation to the Stargate timeline, will this take place? Or will it be independent? Since you wrote in your Concept Diagram about an idea with Sam, Daniel, Teal'c and Jack in the SGC, you would probably have to do it early on or just do it independent. Since they all went off to do different things.
Unless Jack serves in a different capacity perhaps as more of a link to the rest of earth (If at all).
Lastly, do you plan for this to just encompass missions and events in the Milky Way, or do you foresee any activity in Pegasus, the Ori Galaxy, or even whatever SGU might discover?
timeline will be early SG1 until second SG1 (like season 1-7 or 8 of the series) so SG1 is O'Neill, Carter, jackson and Teal'c.
you will be a recruit of SG8 (this number can be another, but you will be a member of another SG Team)
leading NPC´s is something we did not discussed yet. i am not sure how this could work or fit into the play, because its meant to be played as a multiplayer rpg so other players will be your SG team mates.
the game or story will be a spinoff (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spin-off_%28media%29) that means you play beside the known timeline from SG1, you sometimes meet SG1 on other planets or missions (used from the tv series where they work with other SG teams)
the game is expandable.. however this will focus for now on the milkyway part but it can be expanded later to make atlantis or even SGU lore parts available.
EDIT:
Push for 3D Modelers! we need some modelers!
you dont have to create very high res models just fyi.
5 are the placeholder.. i just had the idea at some random night and did it with 5 numbers just for fun, and to see how it works.
it is planned to use real symbols, original chevrons etc. but that needs some time.
story - very nice, i think we need some additional story guys.
i add you to the team, so you can have a look at the forums and post there to contact the other story guys.
for everyone else, still push! we need 3D modelers and data editors!
While my items department isn't as developed, I'm quite good with Spells and characters when it comes to the Data Editor. Keep in mind that I might be working on several projects at once so I'm not interested in full commitment to a program, but I work quickly and can do most things that you'll ask for in the data editor. Definitely a stargate fan though ;)
I love the idea for this project and am really interested in it. I'd be mostly interested in Story writing, as I have been a fan of the SG series for a long time.
I have some basic knowledge of the Data editor for items and such also, but it is not really my forte.
Also, I don't really have a load of free time, but if I tell you, that you will get something I will make sure it is done for you on time!
We could use a terrainer too, since our current ones (except me) have apparently vanished from the face of the Earth.
Also for the sake of showing stuff, this is the current WIP (work in progress) version of the newly terrained Stargate Command, Control Room:
What's that structure to the right with orange stuff? Looks like something from Metroid almost. I also did that same thing with making a Raven portrait as a person on a computer on my map, I feel unoriginal now. XD
All in all it looks pretty neat though.

Haha :D I checked around all portraits around the same time I posted the MULE in the "Creative Doodad Uses" thread (http://forums.sc2mapster.com/development/artist-tavern/3475-creative-doodad-uses/?page=4#p65) Did you also know that if you lower the Drone model a bit, you have a High Quality drone without an attack animation? ^^ Or you can get a high quality egg by using the egg portrait. (And I though I was quite original with the Raven portrait, who would've thought :DD)

Everything on that wall except for the electricity are Space Platform Cliff Doodad Medium. :)
I'm a terrainer, Doodad Positioning mostly. Looking through the videos and details, the project is looking impressive.
Im trying to find a team to join that has set goals in mind and knows what there doing ahead of time.
Trigger Artists
We are looking for some skilled trigger artists as well.
with me and one additional trigger artist we definitly need more guys that are able to create and copy serval trigger stuff like character saving into the planet-maps, create misions and quest conservations and all the RPG stuff you can imagine.
Data Editors
the highest priority in our team has this "job" because we do not have one data editor atm.
you should be able to create heroes, morphing stuff, upgrades, abilities and help to balance the game out.
i know al ittle bit of data editing, so i would help where i can, but im not an expert so we need some people that know what theire doing!
I can do both of these, tho I am better at Data Editing... I am still working on the abilities editing which are a bit more difficult then the Unit/Item editing. I also know some of the lore and background of SG1/SGU, just not so much of the specifics.
The only thing that makes me worried is that you care so little to use proper spelling/capitalization... makes it seem like you will ditch the project after I invest my time because you are not really that invested in it...
Tho, if you would like my help, You can send me a PM and I will tell you want I need to start my process. I will only work if I am given some specific details such as item names, characteristics (Is is a weapon? What kind of weapon? Is is a race? What kind of weapons do they use? etc.) specific to SG/SG1/SGU/SGG universes.

Hmm, okay, you could even potentially go into the Ida (Asgard) Galaxy.
Usually I would offer to do Terrain or Story, and since you don't need any more terrainers; Story it is!
Also, I noticed you are only using 5 Chevrons. Is there a reason you aren't doing 7 or 9? Or are the five just a placeholder for now?
