I also believe that this beta wont last for as long as wc3/tft/sc2 beta. those rts focused a lot on balance. D3 (as was D2) is "just" a stresstest. I believe the game could be released in early December.
I want to play Beta to decide if it's worth it. Do I like current style? Voicing? Atmosphere? Not worried about spoiling anything since beta lasts only until Leoric which would be like 2-3 hours of killing zombies and skeletons? Runes won't be available till act 2 anyway and that's where all the fun with customization starts I think.
You have to remember though, blizzard usually waits until about a month or 2 before it's released that they reveal it's release date. It will most likely be January-Febuary. My mother seems to think it'll be march-april possibly may. However, all of your comments make sense too so I've compromised and decided early Q1.
If the beta goes well, they could get it out by Christmas. But if not, we're probably looking at January/February. They cannot announce a release data yet, because the game might have some major issues (which they would only find out from the beta).
The reason I don't want the beta is that I don't want the responsibility of having to report back bugs and stuff and be committed to play at least X hours a day and whatnot. I enjoy gaming, but I'd hate for it to be my job, takes the fun out of it in a way.

Your missing the part where they have said an '11 released date. They have even said this in their meetings. It will take something big for it to be a 2012 release. We will know for sure at blizzcon.

I'm not sure if you got a sc2 beta key, but thats how sc2 beta was done, according to my friend who got a key. His key was revoked because he didn't play enough.
I tihnk your friends full of it =P (or there was something else going on)
you are never removed from the beta once you are in it. Its been like that for all blizzard betas.
I played at the start of sc2 beta (before the editor) and then stoped touching it at all... once the editor was out, I cam back, was stll part of it.

I never even touched the editor :P
I remember just doing my changes by hotloading files in the Liberty.Multi folder.
So yeah, you don't actually have to play the betas because someone's forcing you to, no one is. And quite honestly if you say you enjoy gaming I don't get why one wouldn't enjoy doing as a job something you enjoy. It wouldn't actually be a job if you enjoy it I guess.
@topic, I wish I had got in the beta, all of the streams going on look awesome but, hell, I can't even run the game in my laptop.
I need to get a new computer before it comes out :P
I got beta for sc2. I didn't post a single bug or suggestion and I sometimes didn't play very much for a whole month. Never got kicked out. I don't see this happening at all.

No, it didn't.
If they want more people in beta, they hand more keys out. They don't, nor have ever taken keys away for inactivity.

Oh. My. Gosh. How do you people see these things?
me wants in beta :<
It seems D3 doesn't use the same format for models as SC2. What a shame.
I'd like to love something not because of the hype and long wait.
Betas somehow helps this happen.
Whatever you do, wholeheartedly, moment by heartfelt moment, becomes a tool for the expression of your very soul.

I know for a fact it wont be Q2. I will be end of this year most likely for sure, if not first months of '12
I dont think you know, the game is done, minus a few things here and there, this beta isnt for gameplay...ect
I agree. For most blizzard releases you could say:
Month beta started in +/- 2 weeks + 3 months = release month

Killing demons just in time for Christmas/Hanukkah/Etc.

You are not forced to play or report bugs. But 99% of the people are so whiny the'll gladly explain every little defect to blizzard.
