I'm actually quite surprised it's not going to be free.
If anything with LoL being massive and having half a million users at any given time vs HoN being a mere blip on the radar with only 50k it would show the difference.
This is valve's first departure from all of their FPS games, I will see how well it goes after the tournament streams. Even if its the exact duplicate of dota they will still have profits
Did anybody else find the sound work on that entirely un-compelling? It felt like they were fighting with nerf weapons. The SFX didn't sell the visuals at all.
Anyway, I'm pretty bummed that they're just making another HoN with a different art style. But hey, it has "DotA" in the name, so that means it'll be a success right? Right?! >_>
I was very unimpressed by that trailer, and if the video is any indication, disappointed with Valve for re-releasing DotA with new graphics and calling it a product.
I've actually seen a few in game screens and I think the art direction looks sexy. Unfortunately I know it's no more than a reskin of DOTA so I'm not that interested in it.
Trailer was definitely kinda "meh" for me too. That seemed more like a teaser trailer you'd put up when first announcing the game.
It makes me really sad that Valve stole the name dota to create something that looks as bad as that. Sure updated graphics are nice but we could use WoW models and make the same thing in sc2. I've seen in game screenshot and I thought it looked good but seeing that trailer makes me doubt it. I thought they were going to make dota 2 not dota: enhanced. Oh well, league of legends is still fun and free.
I guess that disgruntled valve employee blog that appeared a year ago was true. It said that the Dota guy who got hired by Valve (the one who made/maintained dota for W3) insisted on making the heroes as similar to the warcraft ones as possible without getting a lawsuit from Blizzard.
A year later I see a Dota 2 trailer that shows Sylvanas and Grom clones in the first 30 seconds. What am I supposed to think? They did it by accident?
IceFrog stated that DotA2 will be a continuation of where DotA left off. That it's not a new game, but a migration of platforms and that the title will continue to evolve in the same fashion it has done over it's life in WC3.
I think it's a novel and solid approach.
Besides making new heroes, what could he really even have done?
P.s. the 2 chars in the video look nothing like Sylvanas nor Grom. I do think that it's very tasteless that most of the hero models are just higher poly versions of their WC3 counterparts though, especially after the name lawsuit.

Well, while I couldn't tell sylvanas right awya, I could tell the brew master and grom right fucking away. Not identical, but way too close for comfort.
I liked the whole "mysterious merchant telling stories" introduction to the game ! Reminded me of Aladdin somehow " !
True that Grom looks almost identical, while Sylvanas is a bit identical but you can't really tell as the "elven hooded ranger" is kind of a classic in med-f.
Didn't see the brewmaster well enough to see if he looked similar thought.

I dunno, improved the core gameplay?
The whole thing of having to destroy towers and the fact that-
Agi >>>> Str >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Int for that purpose?
Or the piss-poor late-game scaling of non-agi in general? The entire Str/Agi/Int system is broken.
Denies drive extremely passive play for the entire laning phase (compare to League of Legends in this regard).
...and that's just a start. Part of making a sequel is improving on the shortcomings of the original. They're acting like there's absolutely nothing that could be improved, which is a horrible misjudgment on their part. They're going to flop as hard as HoN, if not harder.

WoW models? You must be kidding...btw Blizzard does not want us to use there models.
No one wants another Dota in SC2. The engine does not work that fine for competitive play since you cant reconnect etc.
The biggest fun on Dota were the heroes. They were unique and fun to play since they were so different to play. Thats something I missed in LoL all the time so I quit long time ago. Btw The community of LoL sucks balls. Dota 2 will get a huge community and the way I know Valve, they won't do a shitty game.
Just to throw some experience in here: You know whats most fun in LoL? To amok rush in every time and die like 10 times, but getting all Items you need since you don't lose gold for dying. LoL is perfect for noobs who want easy game-play and a skill cap. The same reason denying was removed I guess. I know a lot of guys enjoying LoL, but I lost my interest since its to simple made. And every one week another hero? Gosh....
At all guys above: Did you secretly play Dota2 already? You sure talk like that.

Were you by chance playing with bots? I guarantee you can't get away with crap like that once you get up to a half-decent ELO.

Got goosebumbs. Probly because Iv played the heroes and it brings back great memories. I will not buy dota 2 though...
I'm mostly interested in how they turn WC3 units into their own thing
I'm actually quite surprised it's not going to be free.

Lets see how well it sells thou.
Wtf was that?
Cinematic was cool and all, but it does not at all capture the feeling of DOTA to me? It felt more like the trailer for yet another MMORPG.
Anyway, /shrug, will see what happens.

Waiting for the tournament tomorrow.
