Activision merged with Vivendi who owned Blizzard a couple of years ago. The Blizzard brand is very strong, strong enough to put its name on the other end of the merger instead of Vivendi. The Blizzard we know just functions as a developing company. Activision finances and distributes their games. Details to this are unknown to me and the next poster.
No, Vivendi is still it's own thing. Vivendi owned both Activision and Blizzard before they merged. Vivendi decided to merge them, and even from Vivendi's site itself: "The company was formed by combining Activision and Blizzard Entertainment". Vivendi still owns Activision Blizzard.
Since Activision is responsible for finance, they have separate stock from Vivendi. Activision is now responsible for publishing Blizzard's games. Activision has no effect on Blizzard's game development. However, they have marketing power, which is likely why things such as paid-for in-game pets in WoW exist, and so forth. Balancing, content, Real ID, etc. have no influence from Activision, because those are part of the games itself.

+ Activision might have some impact on how the marketplace will turn out
Blizzard: So we need to make a new game! Blizzard: Lets make an FPS! We are merged with activision, so could easily use some stuff from CoD. *Activision bursts through the door* Activision: You cannot do that! I own CoD! >:( Blizzard: But we iz merged! Activision: Ok, you can rip-off CoD if you add an extremely overpriced DLC pet for WoW and portraits/ decals for SC2! *Blizzard grumbles, but accepts*
*Next day, as blizzard are starting to design Call of Starcraft: Creep Ops*
Activision: I need more money! I need you to add another pet! Blizzard: D: Noez! Activision: Don't make me get Vivendi in here! Blizzard: I said: D: Noez! Vivendi: What is the problem? Activision: I want more money! Vivendi: Make the pet Blizzard! Or you will be shut down >:( Blizzard: Fine... *whispers*Bastards...*whispers* Vivendi: What was that? Blizzard: Erm... I'll make 2 pets? :/
*CoS:CO is released* Blizzard: Well that sold badly... Activison: You made a good game! Not one that would make money! Blizzard: We made a game that is good to deserve the money! Activision: Whatever. Just make another dozen pets!
*Ending credits start*

Disclaimer: This post is not 100% fact. In fact, it is more of only 10% fact. And that 10% fact is probably just the company names. Thank you.
Damn formatting ><. Took longer to format this post than it did to write it :/.
lol, i'd love to see a flash animation of your epic story and someone
should post this on that newgrounds website =D
+1
whoever make it, add some pop sys on it and a guy banning maps for the most absurd reasons. "Oh no! This map has 666 units on it! It's an insult to the church! BANNED!"
Funny is that everytime I see "Activision Blizzard," I join the thread expecting something bad. It's like when your mom call you by your full name, you know what to expect.
What kind of relationship do they have? I'm not understanding what activision has with Blizzard or the other way around. Are they just a publisher?

Activision + Vivendi = Activision Blizzard
Blizzard = Blizzard without Blizzard North
