Meh.
I believe in some sort of God. I don't believe in Religion though. I consider myself a man of science. I love watching Discovery Channel and I like reading up on Mr. Hawkins findings and other science-related matters. Yet I still believe in a "God".
@ZealNaga
"Just the fact of believing in someone that doesn't even exist, is naive. Where is this "god" everybody talks about?"
-Hmm, where's the proof that it doesn't? Just sayin'.
"When no one has the same point-of-view abouth faith, it's most likely than none of them is right" and "So many questions, no real answer..."
-Sounds kind of like Science. Alot of assumptions. Alot of THEORIES.
You should read Stephen Hawking's book The Theory of Everything. It covers everything and if you really read what is written, you realize that alot of things in science are assumptions, and obviously there are alot of assumptions in religions aswell.

You say that Believers are naive, but what do you call Scientists that are still pulling random "facts" out of their @$$es and then going "Oops we were wrong"?
Theres more proof of there not being a god than there is for there being one.
Well the main differences are:
Bad person, hell, cant be saved, burn for eternity. No religion = nothing after death, the end, empty, stops, black, nothingness... => does this sound positive to you or it brings fear ? Its reality.
Religion = light, saved, life after death, death isnt end, dont worry, good things happen... => relief ? The reason religion is easy to abuse. Coz it calms people down, and they dont thing of bad things.
Religion(most of them) arent bad as religion itself. Usually people who stay behind religions are bad... only humans.
And people are made just of star dust. Dust explodes, boils, makes new materials or whatever. It all goes into a circle. For instance we use oil and will become oil. Dark holes(they die eventually) eat planets, stars explode and make new ones. etc etc
Why 99% of people see death as negative ? Probbly coz human or most of beings are made to live withing that circle of "life". Without circular motion of "life" everything would become and disappear in one moment. So, beings are made to fulfill that circle.
Eventually people will recycle and after X years other beings will be product of us.
Theory might be that at start there wasnt nothing. People tend to believe that universe has been created from nothing. That might not be the truth.
Nothing is just a work do describe NOTHING. Something that doesnt exist.
My theory.
And... God isnt a person... its just an Icon... there is no proof, its a believing, dummies.
This is simple....(Wow I remember in the beginning when I said I din't want this to be a region fight..I knew saying that wouldn't work :D)...Something or somebody had to be pre-existing. Nothing can not create something. We can only create things because we have something to start with. So that means some sort of space-gas, space-rock, galaxy, or Deity/person must have pre-existed forever. Because if there was nothing to start with, nothing can come from it. So which seems most logical- A rock/space gas that has always existed eternally, or a God? Its very simple. There's also a lot of geographical PHYSICAL evidence to support Christianity. Like one city in the bible was said to be destroyed by fire. In the location where the city used to be, we can find high levels of sulfur at the depth of the soil corresponding to the time this event might have happened.
There's a lot of geographical PHYSICAL evidence to support the Greek mythology. Archaeologists have found the site where Troy once was. Yes, the place where the demigod Achilles fought and was killed. If he existed, then I can safely assume that the rest of the Greek pantheon also existed.
BRB! Going to make some animal offerings to Zeus, just in case he exists.
"We are all atheists about most of the gods that humanity has ever believed in. Some of us just go one god further." - Richard Dawkins
Thats different. Just cuz the city existed doesn't mean Achilles fought there. In fact it offers no evidence at all. Thats like saying you saw an old protoss base so you know tassadar was there for sure. :D
There is no fight... just discussion. And this company is stupid.
Well the problem is theres no way to be sure they will hold to the agreement. So heres the problem:
1) Your not even sure if its a real company 2) Would the employees even be able to GET to the dogs during a post-apocalyptic event? 3) Would they care? 4) How well would the dog be treated, anyway? It might be better off on its own. Lol. 5) Do you really care THAT MUCH? Seriously. I know everybody loves animals, I and I love my dog, but ..... seriously??
@zeldarules28: Go
Thats different. Just cuz the there are sulfur deposits in the location where a city used to be, doesn't mean that the city was destroyed by fire and brimstone. In fact it offers no evidence at all. That's like saying you dug up a burned down village somewhere in Greece and said that it was struck by Zeus' lighting.
When you get tired of using the "sulfur in digsite is proof of god" argument, I got a new one for you: .
OK that vid was fairly....lame...Lol. But anyway, like I said (or meant to say and forgot :D) its not like that alone is undeniable proof. Its one of many things. I don't even know if this is a good reference or not but I heard about soem book called "the case for christ"..I've never read it but it might be interesting too look into?
Baaaaaah, can't help it. I need to answer this... Sorry for the wall of text.
The whole point of science, its very existence in the beginning, is to prove god doesn't exist by trusting FACTS. The main objective of science is to explain what people used to attribute to a god. Believers thought of demonic possession, while science proved it was seizure. Believers burned redheads because they thought their hair color was from Hell. Believers thought of life after death because people who had a Near Death Experience saw Jesus or whoever... Science proved that the NDE is a moment of extremely high activity of the brain, which also means what people saw is what they wanted to see (it's almost as if you were dreaming while being completely high). Science also proved Moses never splitted water in half. He just used a natural phenomenon which actually still exists nowadays (it's in the Nile Delta, I think). And I'm pretty sure Jesus never actually walked on water either, he just walked on the Dead Sea, where anyone nowadays can go to do the same.
There are still mysteries science can't explain of course, but it doesn't mean it's an act of god anyway: I'd most likely think science doesn't have the tools yet to explain what it is (criminal investigation constantly make these kinds of progress, why wouldn't it apply to other researches?). Science helps the whole humanity to make progress (medicine, for example). What did religions do in the interest of humanity? Colonizations, extermination of indigenous tribes, arbitrary crimes based on beliefs, wars... and proverbs, maybe.
Belief is only a creation from people who wanted to explain what they can't.
How was Jesus born already? Oh yeah, I remember! From a virgin. That totally makes sense! From "immaculate conception", right? Another mystery to explain a mystery! Religion is some kind of melting pot where everything weird in life is assumed as an act of someone we can't see, we can't hear, we can't touch, we can't smell, and we can't even talk to. Starting from there, of course, there is nothing we could do against it because there is no way to prove something DOESN'T exist. It's pure logic, yet it's totally absurd.
ex: I believe there is a giant mouse somewhere in space which is made of gouda, and she sent edam on Earth to let our planet know she is a superior being. Prove me I'm wrong. You can't? Of course you can't, because there is no way to go far enough in space and be sure we checked EVERYWHERE for that giant mouse. As long as you don't prove me you checked everywhere, I'll still see hope somehow and stick to my belief. The same way, NOBODY can prove god exists, but we can at least trust facts that will help us get the right from wrong. It is more likely that god doesn't exists though, because facts are against it while there are only assumptions on the fact that he exists.
Anyway, you're right when saying science makes assumptions. But it's a normal process when your goal is to discover truth behind mysteries. You can't reach truth (based on facts) in the first try... You need to focus on something and see how it sticks, but it takes time, it's a full process of trial and errors. Science always assumed that, while believers always claimed "if you don't do as god tought us, you'll be in a lot of trouble". People are ready to fight each other for something NOBODY has yet been able to prove... How could I agree with that, seriously? The whole religious teaching sounds childish to me, it sounds EXACTLY the same way as "eat your vegetables or your dad will be angry!"...
The point of science is to better understand the world around us, AS WE CAN UNDERSTAND IT, in our VERY LIMITED capability of understanding it. We only use 10% of our brains... What if we used 100%?? Would we even have to figure anything out? Not bloody likely.
Now if (science) happens to make it seem as though there is no god, then that is just a side effect for lack of a better term.
Science is about finding FACTS to prove or disprove. Believing god doesn't exist without 100% proof positive that he doesn't is not very scientific.
I believe in a god yet love science. I'm sure I am not the only one, regular joe or scientist or whatever.
Scientists claiming themselves to be scientists and not believing in something, and then saying(with strong conviction) that god doesn't exist is just the stupidest thing ever. Again, not very scientific of them.
Anyways thats enough from me, I hate debating Science - Religion... it's just oh-so-much-bullshit =D and oh-so-recycled. I've debated science vs religion too many times over the years. Ahwell. Enjoy.

don't think that site liked my answers ^^
Lol if you click you don't care it says "thanks for vising" and forwards you to Disney's website...lol.
People using more than 10% of their brain will eventually turn mad (schizophrenic, mostly). Rare cases of people using unknown part of the brain have a problem elsewhere (motricity, elocution, autism,...). The brain spend most of his time slowing your whole body down or you would turn crazy because of the mass of information your brain sends and receives.
So the existence of the word proves the existence of the concept? Take care of minotaurs on the roads...
Science has never reported any fact proving that the existence of a god might even be true. Weird phenomenons exist, but most of them are interpretations (the face of Jesus seen in the moisture on a wall is just an misinterpretation of the form we see). If an alien comes on Earth and we study his UFO, we would probably not understand how it works. Doesn't his UFO exists even if we can't explain with 100% proof how he made it?
Speaking of UFOs, this is probably the only "weird" thing I believe. And yet, I'm pretty sure if we need with an alien race someday, they won't give a f* about our god(s). I'm not even sure they would understand the concept of believing in an entity.
True enough. I'll join you (yes, I know I already said that twice).
@EternalWraith: Go Funny. They reach the Godwin point and turn the answers and questions to their advantage (2 choices of answer per question is not enough to be accurate)... I personally don't believe rape is a good thing yet you can't tell it's absolute moral sense. Molesters don't feel guilty about it, because they fancy young people and this is their way to prove it... It doesn't mean I want them to keep on doing this, it just mean there is a reason to how they act, and we shouldn't only blame them for this (funny, there was not any button to give this answer in the test)... Of course society thinks it's bad (meaning >98% of us), but they don't. I know what is common sense but I also learned to be cautious about that: Many people believe in god, this is not enough of a reason to make me believe it exists. If 98% of us would believe the moon is made of cheese, would you join them? I won't, BECAUSE I know people proved it isn't. I don't believe in god because what science found is enough for me to consider god doesn't exists. If someday science proves the contrary, I'll probably reconsider the question.
I think it isn't very wise to follow one individual religion to the letter. For one thing the bible is made by humans and humans make mistakes, misinterpret things, and sometimes let their personal feelings get in the way of what is actually true. So I think it is better to find what you yourself think is true rather than what everyone says is true. This is where science comes in. Science is the pursuit of the truth. Then after scientists believe they have found something out it is only natural to share what you have found, so they show evidence of what they interpret to be true.
I myself believe in god but not in the sense I think most people believe. The thought of a all powerful single entity separate from us doesn't make any sense to me. Instead what makes sense is if god is literally everything in existence. As in you are god, I'm god, and so are all the trees and animals. Now I have no proof of what I think is right actually is right but that is what believing is rather than knowing.
In the end it doesn't really matter what anyone believes as long as what you believe makes you happy. So if someone else believes in something different from you and it makes them happy, I don't think it is very fair to push your ideas onto them.
That's what I think of all of this.
Im pretty sure they know deep down its wrong but they do it anyway?(Chemical imbalance in the brain). Same goes for murderers/Thieves etc.
Ive had for a long time now, the urge to kill/hurt my father. I know its wrong, but strong emotions can override reasoning and logic.
I dont think society determines right/wrong in such actions. Basic logic and understanding tells you that its unfair to commit such actions. The point in question is how strong a "conscious" that person has.
Im also not sure what you mean by "Science found enough" for you to consider god doesn`t exist?;p. Really?. I think you`ll only believe god exists if he personally visited your house and had dinner with you;p
But do tell me about this science?. I too have spent many(many many) hours of research into Science and understanding/knowledge. Ive been on that quest. So much to the point where it all just makes "sense" to me now. Science is God`s handiwork. Its really beautiful. Quantum mechanics really opens one`s understanding to the possibilities of miracles. But anyway If someone offered me 10 million dollars to deny god, I`d tell them Fk you. May seem stupid on my part, but hey, I cant deny what I know 100% to be true.
I'm god? O.o *Smites Progammer*
Didn`t you say you were 15 years old on irc?. Sigh..
@Zeldarules28
Gratz on accidently creating one of these bs science vs religion threads.
