I'm not here to bash this kid, I am just saying, don't you hate being lied too on the internet? Yeah, its the internet, I really don't care for that excuse. I like to play games with real people, not fake aged people. :/ Anyone else?
@iSaintx: Go
I don't see the issue here. At-least tell us what he did wrong or something ? I've seen a 12 year old female player outplay MANY 20-23 year old male players on healing in WoW back in my world #6 rated guild in Vanilla ?
Sure, there are some kids on the internet. But we play games, which usually attract kids you know..
He's claimed he was 17yrs old for weeks now, he gets on voice chat one day and claims it's his brother talking with a really squeaky voice. I'm not bashing him or trying to bring him down. My point was: why can someone not just tell the truth that they might be 12 or 13yrs old instead of lying and say they are 17? Yeah, its possible his brother was talking, but its every time we go through voice chat.
If he was 12, I really don't care, I would still play a game with him once and a while like usual. It's just being lied too that I do not like. Yeah, you gotta get used to it on the internet, but once you really start developing a type of friendship it is not a good idea to lie.
You know what I hate? When I get on good old Black ops to slay some zombies. And then I get into a match, and I hear this high squeaky 10 year old voice saying " F you guys, you suck at this game. noobs". I can't stand it. Why the heck are little 10 year olds playing an M rated game that involves violent assassinations, guys getting their eyes gouged out, torture sequences, guts, gore, dismemberment and fairly strong language. Seriously. You shoot a zombie and it's body parts fall of.... I mean, if your playing an E rated game then it's sort of expected. But when it's an mature rated game and I have to deal with immature team members.... >.< Little 12 year olds will lie and put "21 years old" in their account so they can play games like that. That's why I don't normally voice chat on games. You meet all these weird people and then they try to add you on their friends. And its like- kid- I played a game of halo with you. I'm not your fiend. Go away.
But like Yaos01 said...what do you expect? You can't trust anybody on the internet. In fact, you could be some creepy guy trying to steal our information. >.< Don't think I'm not on to it- I'm watching you.... ;)
edit- Were you playing a game with this kid or was this just a chat session?
i think absence of lobby manners is just as tricky and interesting a subject.. one can be just as annoying not disclosing anything than lying about stuff.
Players, whether vet of a particular mod or not, avoid communication/team play and teaching other players the "ropes"
then keep spamming useless and juvenile comments when (having no idea how to play the mod) you make them loose... :)
"Kids" is a matter of pov... like it's been typed already, maturity/respect does not come with the number of years (it can, but that is not a "given")
As for lying, i agree that discussing it is a good idea.
i get that kids are not "groomed" to disclose/respect their age, so lying about it seems totally logical. However this can easily/often lead to a "disappointing/awkward/prone to get your girdle in a rut" experience for loads of players.
Blame it on the success of star2.
i personally tried to "socialize" on "cycles", while hosting it (to contribute to players liking the game and more and more gooooood players having competitive fun, trying to insure my selfish future fun)..
and booooooooooooy is it awkward/complex.. you have to unriddle players' motives/demeanor/timetables etc... = huge time loss that could be spend playing/competing.
i don't mind kids/adults, both "groups" are "mixed", this to say that you get juvenile adults and respectful kids ; while it's true that kids are predominant in star2, you can usually "rate" other players quite quickly (that is to say: enjoyable players or spammers/babies/old bitter du.b f.cks)...
This can be said of any online experience.
Yeah.. must admit, if you do catch someone lying (age, history, whatever) the "relationship" is bound to quickly deteriorate/change... same as in real life.
i don't see any other way than promoting self confidence in kids and respect in old pig heads (like myself).
Again, i think this subject warrants discussion and the threads (on any site) related to it don't seem very useful/helpful.
you can say you hate playing with kids , and kids can say , WHY THE are you playing games at your age? dont you have a lfie? a g-f , blah blah
their is a reason they have VOICE MASK on x-box and most chatting systems . sure some kids can be annoying but you complain about kids just makes you annoying.
If you don’t like some one , block them and move on !!! good old block/Mute
There was this mapmaker who was pretty ripped and old, but looked like a kid and even typed like one.
There was this mapmaker (who made a really good map, btw) that was pretty quiet but still friendly. He also draws comics of furries. And his dad supports him for that. Fuck, I hate that, but the internet is weird, so I didn't get bothered much.
There was this mapmaker who couldn't crack jokes, but he made some brilliant games like Mafia and Battle Mages.
There was this mapmaker who made this map "Don't Drop The Soap", oh god, Archimonde had penis attachment. Sick. But then again, >>first sentence of this post.
There was this mapmaker who made a ton of conceptual maps. He was also very strict with language. The second time I sweared while being his buddy, he pretty much blocked me and I never heard from him since.
To sum it all up, the internet is so damn weird. That's why I don't emotionally connect myself with it. And you shouldn't too.
I do miss these guys. But I'm a person who wonders too much, that's why I miss them.
Also, 12 year olds are the easiest people to manipulate/bitch/talk with... They're always finding a friend over the internet, and some of them realize that their age might scare you guys off, seeing as how a shit ton of you guys bitch about how 12 year olds are bitches.

In honesty, the internet is the place where many people lie, why? Well, in theory everyone can figure out what you do on the internet so it's safer. Aswell as the fact there's always a minor chance that some wacko goes after a young person. The chance might be one out of hundreds of millions but still. I played with people of various ages and usually, before anyone knew my age they always thought I was at a different age than I really was, calling people 'annoying 12 year olds' is what happens alot but in the end it makes no sense. I've met people online that are young and were much more mature and fun to play with than with adults that 'should' know how to behave.
to be honest i just ignore people that annoy me , i dont evan bother asking there age , I JUST PLAY GAMES!! lol dont care about the people , aand games like sc2 , you dont liek some one its easy to just quick/rejoin a new game . lol
here is my view on this . if your online , unless you KNOW who your talking to , LIE AWAY!! lie till your HEART BLEDS!!!!
im a 20 year old blond with UGE JUGS!! and i live NEAR YOU!! ( thats right ALL of you ) ;) lmao

Because older people typically don't like playing games with kids. Being anonymous is only a good thing for them in this kind of situation.

I really wouldn't of lied because I was taught not to lie. Every time I DID try to lie was hell for me.

The internet is just a glimpse into what people will do when they have no consequences for anything they say or do: A world full of idiots.
Your example is actually not that bad, compared to some of the things I've seen. Being lied to should be something you get used to quickly.

Deflecting by acting all cool instead of engaging in decent conversation = dead giveaway for teenager.
Advocating lying = dead wrong = dead giveaway for lack of civic/social sense of responsibilities.
(not to mention iSaintx never said he hated kids, he said he hated liars.. your post is uselessly misrepresenting his pov)
