You decided to move home, and moved to an older house in a cheaper area, nothing too fancy. Anyway, a few months go past and you decide to start renovating it and change it around. As you go removing a specific wall, you notice that there was a door behind it. Extremely Unnerved, you open the door up (Which has no handle) and you see it goes down stairs, this is directly under your main staircase. You see it's quite dark down there, so you grab a torch and start going down. Curious, but nervous you continue down the steps. You realize you have gone down at least 50 steps, and cannot see the end of them yet, the door behind you slams shut, you look up and you hear a locking noise. Confused, you sprint back up the stairs and realize the door is locked... It had no handle, how has it locked?! Scared you start to bash the door down. But to no avail. Confused, and scared. You shine the torch back down the stairs, and notice a door, not even 20 steps away. Extremely curious and extremely scared you slowly walk down the stairs, as you come up to the door you notice a light shining through the door. You test the door, it is unlocked...
WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
AND WHAT COULD BE BEHIND THE DOOR?
I would never ever go down without putting a stopper in the door, because I'm overly cautious about everything. But I'd open the door and find 3 billion dollars, which I would then use to upgrade this site and purchase a mansion for me. :P

And yeah, about the case... I personally do not live in the middle ages so I'd kinda...wouldn't grab a torch but something like a LED light or so and let's ignore the fact that, that's pretty much impossible seeing that 50 steps would mean around 3-4 stories tall building. It's just something you'd want to know your house has before buying it...
Doors can get locked even with locks. It's called material properties phyrics. Specially your crappy american houses can do this, since you just enjoooy building in wood and wood can dilate quite a lot with temperature changes.(although that's more like trapped) So yeah, I wouldn't freak out. Locking noise was merely an hallucination by the shear panic I'd have by the flow of excitement adrenaline in my blood :P
I obviously open the second door since I cannot go through the first, duh, and what could be there? Well I expect it to be the street, china (since I apparently went down a LOT) or some magical place with ponies and rainbows.
TL;DR Nevermind paranormal BS. There's a logical explanation for everything, open the god damn door and claim your deserved unicorns.
I would pick up a canister of fuel, conveniently just sitting there, and break open the wall to remove the *Named Censored* and mix it in the fuel. Then I would spread the resulting product on the top stairs door and let the never ending fire consume the door until it is weak enough to just run through it with an other piece of dry wall.
If the walls are made of cement then drats! I guess I would starve trying to get back up the stairs lol..
