You should check out alt and progressive metal, metal can be just as varied as any other genre, some great examples being Tool, Porcupine Tree (though you'll have to look for the metal stuff on them, they do a lot of different types of music - Blackest Eyes is probably a good example), Gojira, Protest the Hero and possibly even Fair to Midland (though they're a bit debatable to the actual metal factor).
Porcupine Tree just has a great range period really
@IliIilI
Red's a great band, sucks they don't get much more attention, though it seems they are obtaining more popularity.
I really like the part where she sings "Dir ist alles erlaubt und alles gegeben" because when everything is allowed and everything is given, everything is very easy. So I always listen to this song before examinations and other challenges.
I mostly listen to game music. Usually old dos game midis . (Doom, Descent, Raptor, DNK 3D, Etc etc etc etc etc etc). Greatest source of inspiration for me.
Well, not generally a fan of classical music and such, but this is just awesome =D
Whole soundtrack from aranofsky's requiem is brilliant (as is the film), but not really cheerful :)
(mostly if you watch the movie and experience this classic chill inducing musical theme for the first time in it)
It's common knowledge that porcupine trees rule (well this one ;) )

Same here. I'm generally more a metal/rock fan, but there are sooo many exceptional songs out there that it'd be a shame to not listen to them :D

Porcupine Tree is great :D. Knew of them already. Not my favourite band right now, but quite close :)
one of my favorites....for the sake of my geekiness
