I have been playing the multiplayer demo a lot lately, it is quite fun. My highest char is a lvl 10 Infiltrator (<3 headshots). My Oirgin user is alevicejones for anyone who wants to join the fun.
I'm avoiding the demo so I can get spoiler-free into the full version. I also plan on replaying ME1 and ME2 (because I lost my save on ME2. But I'm definitely going to hit the chick twice again :P)...
I'm crazy excited. I played through ME1 and ME2 and they were both good. ME1 really dragged in the citadel for the first few hours, planet exploration was crazy boring and not even very productive, and the combat felt like an MMO. But, the story was great and the ending sequence was outstanding. ME2 had an even better story, no planet exploration, and the combat felt like an action game (especially with the addition of ammo and clips rather than all cooldown attacks from ME1). If they can put another round of improvements on the formula, then ME3 is going to be awesome.
I like games that you can choose your own destiny, and Mass Effect is great. But I tend to concentrate more on the kicking-of-the-alien-ass and saving the galaxy more than hitting on Tali. That was AFTER I got bored with winning. So I won some more. Giggity giggity.
i cant wait for Mass Effect 3!! i love how the choices you made in the previous games can affect your play through on the next game. i always make an asshole Shepard and a goody-goody Shepard XD
Anybody see total biscut's boycott attempt? He doesn't like launch-day dlc with important content in it, and has asked his subscribers not to buy it. Thoughts?
Im okay with day one dlc and some extra crap you can do or not do. Im not pleased ith the mporting feature crap. Ihate that I cant imort the character I have been playing as for 2 games already.
Just listened to the video - TB didn't really say anything that sounded new to me. Have had a similar opinion for years, and tying into this is the reason why I've stopped buying Ubisoft games. I was actually going to buy ME3 just to play co-op with a pall, but since he decided not to I decided I might as well download it.
I agree with the gist of TB's idea, just not with all of his reasoning; like mentioned in several replies, we do not know how important this DLC is to the story, and throwing up a fuss just because of something that could potentially be not much more than a skin seems silly. The reason I still agree with him is because I don't like the idea of releasing DLC on launch date, though. That really just reeks of milking money. They created stuff they could've put in the game but didn't because selling it seperately simply generates more money. The thing with collector's editions of games (which do the same thing) is that they are actually limited. Buying a CE of a game doesn't just give you extra stuff, but also a bit of an entitlement that allows you to say "I got the collector's edition of that game". Something you can throw out there in a hipster-like fashion in three years. You were a fan before it was cool. By making CE stuff accessible through paid DLC, you're throwing away that 'right' for your buyer and with that diminishing the 'Collectors Edition' stuff to 'stuff you can buy if you just pay some extra money'.
That said though, this is EA for you. Money making is at the top of their list. They are no longer 'electronic arts', they're a business. I'll refer you here for a crystal clear explanation of my opinion on that.
So as my topic closed I ask it here too:
I wont play Mass Effect 3, its not my style, but what I heard that people complaining that it sucks.
So whats your opinion? (better if you already played it and dont link stupid pages and their ratings, we all know you can buy those with money...)
Right, so I finished it in 2 days (took me 26 hours of hardcore addiction playing).
Afterwards I've read about peoples' complaints (e.g. the weak revelation of the Quarians' face, the story similarities to a certain other game which was released not too long ago, lack of quality, and so on) but I can't share most of these complaints.
I've played Mass Effect 1 and I really liked it, although it was far from being a perfect game (those boooring ground exploration missions..).
Then ME2 came along and it did things very differently. Partly for the better, partly for the worse.
But ME3? There is NOTHING ME3 doesn't do better than ME2.
Social interaction with other characters is on an entirely different level. You really get a close look into their heart, get attached to them. I shed a big fat tear for every comrade I've lost.
Together with them I've attended funerals of relatives, war memorials, bars, or maybe just some quiet place for a bit of peace before the killing starts again.
You seem to have much more freedom of choice than in the previous installments. Your actions may now decide the fate of an entire species, or might severely help or cripple you in your war efforts. They've also revamped the Paragon/Renegade (good guy/bad guy) system so being a Renegade doesn't mean you steal lollies from babies anymore. Instead it means that you're known doing what it takes to get the job done. A change I really welcome.
Combat is done really well. It's similar to ME2 but there's a greater variety of weapons and powers. Enemies act intelligent, stay in cover or try to overwhelm you if they have the superior numbers.
Later in the game they're throwing horde after horde at you, the different enemy types require different tactics and can sometimes really scare you off.
The story is of such epic proportion - Basically your mission is to unite all races and get as much war assets (troops, materiel, researchers, resources, technology, morale) to lead the final strike against the Reapers. I'm sure I spent at least an hour reading through the war asset descriptions and I loved it. All the time I've had this tingling feeling of something utterly epic approaching.
If you imported ME2 saves it's even better.
Some people I've decided to help in ME1 actually joined my cause - I've read it in a news article.
On the other hand a few decisions I made in ME2 forced the Quarians into fighting the Geth even harder. So after I've settled their dispute their fighting power wasn't as great as you'd expect.
There are a lot of inside jokes for those who played the previous games. Calibrations? EDI's taste of humor? Wrex's suggestion to eat stupid people? Heck, I've even found my old Space Hampster which I've bought in ME2! Come to think of it.. I never named him..
There's also more RPG to it than in ME2. More customization of your weaponry, powers and other equipment. Weapon mods are back too. Works out pretty well.
I don't wanna praise it into heavens. It's not a perfect game. I didn't like a few parts of the story, a few gameplay things could've been better, etc pp.
In my eyes it's all-around a huge improvement to ME2. Not without faults but a worthy end for one of the greatest franchise I've ever played.
PS:
Regarding all the DLC monetizing: I don't really like it. But most of the current DLCs are weapons, armors or similar stuff I think. They hardly add anything to the actual game.
A day-one DLC that adds a new character? Meh, do not like to pay extra for this :(
HOWEVER: I've played the game without this DLC and it's STILL A FUCKING GREAT GAME.
EA's money leeching is damn ugly, but that doesn't change the fact that this game was outright awesome.
Anyone thrilled about it?

The singleplayer demo is for the most part spoiler free. Unless you don't know what the ending of the Arrival DLC entailed.
You can always play the multiplayer demo, which, aside from some enemy classes (all of which have been revealed), it is 100% spoiler free.
