So, fun news (not really), I got my appendix removed yesterday morning. My belly has cut and has lots of stitches. I can't move very fast, otherwise, I might break them and then Bad Things(tm) would happen to me. It's a very humbling and uncomfortable experience. However, I am very grateful that I was out cold during the operation, and woke up after it was done. :)
I've been told "no-heavy lifting for 6 weeks," which means it's also quite possible that I can't play intense games like Skyward Sword for 6 weeks (dang it, I was working on a Boss Rush Mode FAQ).
Here's how happened: I was having some abdominal pains on Monday evening. My brother can and cooked some soup for me, while bringing a list of symptoms that, if I had any with my abdominal pains, I should call a doctor.
An hour later, I had one of those symptoms. I quickly called a friend who took me to an Insta-Care place. They checked and said I might have Appendicitis. So, I went to a hospital in Orem called "Intermountain." They took me through a CAT scan, and checked my blood. I was there for about an hour before I got the results.
And then the results came out positive; I had Appendicitis.
There was no surgeon there, so I had to be transferred. Since there is a certain hospital that one should avoid in the Provo-Orem area (called "Utah-Valley Hospital," don't EVER go there. EVER), I went to an Intermountain hospital in American Fork. I stayed the night there, and got the surgery in the morning.
Sounds like a tragic love story of a man and his appendix seperated :(
Shame dude, but at least you've had the worst part of it, I guess. Hope you get well soon.
On another note; that list your brother brought... is that a random wikipedia list or does your bro have a bit more authority? Might be nice to have such a list lying around somewhere if it's reliable.
I have really no idea what Appendicitis is, but it didnt sound nice when I looked it up. Getting surgeries are never fun to the patients (may be for the doctors), but it would be even worse without.
Also, I can't see how playing video games should have any impact on the belly.
Anyway, I hope you'll be back at full strength soon.

Your country probably has its own weird name for it. It's "blindedarmontsteking" in Dutch. It's that 'disease' where your stomach suddenly, out of nowhere, starts hurting like hell and your appendix has to be taken out; I think it's deadly if you wait too long, even.
Skyward Sword is a Zelda game and would be played on a Wii which means lots of swinging the controller around like a sword or whatever and ripping up the stitches ;)
-Have Diarrea? Yes? Most likely not appendicitis. Stop Reading.
-Lay down. Bring your right knee to your abdomen. Does that hurt even more? Yes? Start to worry.
-Try to jump. Can you? Nope? Should try to work out a little bit more. If you manage to jump, does it hurt in the lower/middle/rightish part of your abdomen? Yes? Proooobably you have appendicitis. You should now proceed to the hospital and have your blood checked for any signs of that.
It CAN be deadly. Literally, this happens when too much crap is filling your appendix. So you must have it removed. Basically if you wait too much you stop having appendicitis and start having something else (can't remember the name but it's basically appendicitis 2.0) and dangers include having your appendix explode inside your body. Which kinda doesn't sound like fun, right? However that shouldn't kill you for a couple of hours, though.
Good luck recovering. Were you fully sedated or just locally? Locally quite honestly sounds more fun to me cause you'd get to make jokes with the doctor since you're still awake while being on surgery.
Sorry to hear that, 2 years ago I had mine removed... It sucked... In hospital for about a week, it had already ruptured...
The thing is at school, I was hunched down, like an old man, it hurt bad if I stood up, so when I trudged home I told my parents, and we went to hospital to see whats up...
Funny thing is I feel so much better now, I am more active...
It's actually quite fun how similar all languages are. Even though I can't say a single word in dutch, I still figured out what it meant. Thanks for clarifying it, and teaching me a little dutch :)
Actually its not a disease, the appendix is like a small finger on the edge of your large intestine, it has nothing to do, it just gets some flow around, but if it fills too much, (which happens a lot to random people, like me, or Aegis) it can burst, or rupture, it doesnt do anything pretty much... it's like getting a haircut, nothing that bad... Except for surgery, and then you cant walk... etc...
But yes it is deadly if you are late.... Its like having an arm dying from something, it will poison the rest of your body if you wait too long...Which can be deadly...
Do you feel better than before you had problems with your appendix, or after you had it removed?
Yes, It feels much better, I dont even notice it, except I feel much better than I did before, little thing that bothers me is that I have a cut on my stomach, which they said will go away, haha, they lied -_- (by bother I mean its strange it didnt go away)
Hope you'll get better in no time :)
Sucks it was on Valentines day... but man, I think there was something with this year's one. It was the most horrible day in my life, and many of my friends said so too.
can't remember the name but it's basically appendicitis 2.0
I'm guessing appendicitis follows the same pattern* as battle.net?
Sorry, just had to say it.
On topic, hope you get better! Could've been worse, like, uh... a Zombie infection. Yea, I honestly don't have very much to contribute to this topic. Seeing that list of symptoms though could be a useful thing (If there is anything xcorbo's list didn't cover)
My mum thought i was faking sick from school at first when i had it. But i knew shit was happening that shouldn't be because that pain was nothing I've ever felt before :S

LOL.
No, he got it from a more reputable site. I don't remember what it was, though. :P

Yeah, I had a plan to give a girl a gift too. :( Fortunately, I got it to her, but it was late last night (around 9 pm my time).
Fun fact: My middle name is Valentine. Coincidence? :P
And yes, I was knocked out. I don't remember anything of the surgery. I remember vague images of going into the surgery room, but then I remember waking up in my room in the hospital.

Basically, what I know is this:

Oh yea, Wii games are probably not that good to play if you have stitches all over your belly.

.. And some patients wait for more than a year before they get their surgery. It's wonderful, isnt it?

The gilding on the mask had cracked to reveal the rot underneath.
Cookies to whoever knows where that line is from, btw.
You should listen to this story about appendicitis: http://www.thisamericanlife.org/play_full.php?play=439&act=2
It's relevant and funny!

I highly recommend this. Positive energy all over in this thread, hope it cheers you up Aegis :)
Man medical science needs to step it up. We shouldn't have to deal with shit like this or cancer or w/e else.
I'm an idealist!
Dang and i was just about to ask you to lift that 50 inch Bubble TV for me... Oh well... :D. Hope you have a speedy recovery.
