1. Work.. I wish I could quit my 50 hour a week job and work 12 hours a day in the data editor instead (seriously :P )
2. Wife, enough said
3. Perfectionism, I'm sometimes shocked to see 2 hours have gone by and all I've done is perfect the look of 1 spell animation. Its tough to break the wrist and walk away sometimes.
The fact that I'm making videos about my map making endeavors. It only takes me a few hours to finish one feature of the map, but more than a week to make a video about that feature I worked on. That, and a lot of other *insignificant* tasks in real life, like sleeping.
EDIT: On a more serious note actors also stop me from finishing a lot of things. I can't ask someone to do actors because most people won't respond and they will respond if I have something to show but I have nothing to show because I can't really do anything with actors so it's a catch 22, I think. I can't get help without showing something fancy to bring them in but I need someone to make that something fancy.
1. School
2a. Lack of motivation
2b. Lack of ideas
3. Distracted by other maps
4. Distracted by playing ladder games
5. Day9 dailys. He almost casted my game on newbie tuesday, mass infestor (Just pause daily 278 at 53:45. That's my game he selected!=O)
6. I just wasted a little more than 3 hours on the map mineralz >.<
- Unsure whether making sc2 maps will be a good path to take 'cos I have other projects in the making too... (you can use the time to do something else like mobile apps development, or web based service dev.)
- No partner (very hard to do things alone, esp. motivation wise. And very hard to find partner interested in SC2 modding who is at the same level and has the same interest as you. Easier to find partner to do mobile apps dev or web based dev)
c) No possibility to do everything with codes, data editor is required 100% for a good map.
I don't think that's true at all, the map I was working on before this one was purely coding, it was two dimensional, so I was doing it all with overlain images. Unfortunately I gave up on that because my code wasn't efficient enough to track all the pulses I was sending all over the place. I was pretty pleased with the system though.
I am currently working on a map based on the gameplay of the Fire Emblem series. This one only has data editing for cosmetic effects. ie. making the units the right size and model and such. All the information about the units down to the damage dealt is being tracked and carried out via triggers, and displayed with custom UI.
It's quite possible to make a good map with minimal or no data editing, though of course data editing would be good to know. I'm picking it up bit by bit as I do the core stuff via triggers.
How is the 3DS? I hope I'm thinking the 3DS you're talking about is the 3DS that nintendo just released with 3D. Is the 3D good? Although I think the lineup is kind of poor.

Ya, the launch-lineup is terrible. 90% of why I bought it is for Ocarina of Time which is due in a few months or so. (and cuz I haven't had a hand-held since Gameboy Color and wanted to play the Zelda games from the DS (cba with emulators) :b)
The 3D is sweet, I only have Rayman as a game in 3d and it doesn't do much except a bit of depth, but in the sense of 3d effects go, it works better than I thought it would. It hurts your eyes if you put it on max tho, but setting the 3d on like 30% makes it just about right.
Also, the 3D is kinda reverse of what glasses-3D is. Instead of things popping out in your face, it goes inwards if that makes sense.
thing that is preventing me from making awesome maps: TIME!!!! and cookies :P and probs lots of procrastination and not the good kind!
@zarakk you making me want to get the 3ds now :( stop enticing me!!!!
2. And some things I really hate in the new editor and which were much better in Wc3 ...
a) No galaxy support.
b) Game-Loop with "amazing" 1/16 timer. -.-
c) No possibility to do everything with codes, data editor is required 100% for a good map.
I find it amazing that every single one of those points is wrong.
a. You can code galaxy in the editor and it checks for errors. That's support.
b. It's a 1/32 timer.
c. I've done maps that use scripting for everything except for defining assets like models and sounds.
QFT.
Time, time and more time.

Time is biggest thing. And:
1. School
2a. Lack of motivation
2b. Lack of ideas
3. Distracted by other maps

That's pretty much it, I hope.

It's always that damn school. Just a few more weeks and then I'll have four months in which I can map to my heart's content. :D
