So I us mods have been having a nice little conversation over the last month about what's been happening in our lives. Getting new computers, getting PhD's, travelling, being 5 blocks away from the Purdue school shooting (that was me), etc. Everyone has a life outside of SC2Mapster. So what is it? Is anyone doing anything fun or exciting?
I, for example, have been spending the last 5 months working on making a WoW/Fire Emblem/Pokemon/Sim City (it's actually a totally original concept that I have been told is pretty cool) hybrid in Java. It's surprising coming along quite nicely, and will be released in a couple of years. (I'm actually going be releasing the closed BETA here first, and giving away free copies!)
I'm sure that with all the intelligent and interesting people on this website (can't say that about most websites), there has to be at least a couple people with interesting stories. So let's hear them! Brag about yourself! Brag about others! Let's have some fun with it.
I work at an emergency lighting company managing a warehouse. It Takes up a ton of my time but I'm really good at it and its a very cool environment. In my spare time I work on SCU and a couple of other starcraft projects.
Aside from that I'm trying to get into 2d art using sketchbook for my ipad. It's a really fun program and when I decide to finish something you'll find it here:
http://ghostnova91.deviantart.com/
As far as hobbies and stuff outside of starcraft I spend a lot of time wheeling or modding my jeep. :D
I work full time managing a bar. And by managing I really mean I run the bar. It's a lot of work but it pays the bills and is a fairly entertaining job. Unfortunately it does take up a lot of my time though. In some of the time i have I'm currently working on a special map along with a few side projects with others.
As for hobbies outside of those of the virtual kind I write and play music with some of my friends. Other than that I lead a fairly normal life.
Though I can't multitask for the life of me, I've always been a person of many interests and without trying to toot my own horn, it's a bit hard to write them all down. I've recently taken a small holiday in Lisbon with my girlfriend, I'm watching Fringe (three episodes left from finishing it) and just finished up both Hell on Wheels (been on a bit of a western-binge) and Prophets of Science Fiction. I recently played through all three Bioshocks (hadn't played them before, wanted to catch up) and before that I completed a shitload of older games when I went on a Nostalgia binge (Dungeon Keeper, Theme Hospital, Half-Life, Magic & Mayhem, Settlers 2 and at least a dozen more I've forgotten). At the same time I've been involved in the lovely War for the Overworld project for a bit - initially as a team member, though I've recently stepped down as resources are limited and there was no more work for me (I was a designer and design was done).
Aside from all that I've started my Law major this year at uni within my Liberal Arts & Sciences study (which focuses on interdisciplinary knowledge, so basics about everything from philosophy to economy rather than in-depth information on one field) which means I've been busy pretty heavily studying international and european law. Whenever I haven't been doing any of the above or spending time with my girlfriend, that is.
Interested in finding out what more crazy kinds of people we have around here, though - a proper RPG-style innkeeper and a lightning specialist weren't exactly the types I was expecting.
I'm actually busy with three personal projects of mine, in which I switch to frequently to tend to them. Obviously, as I'm still to attain my first job, this leaves way plenty of time to work on them. Two of them you've came to know recently, the third you only know through reference in terraining and the AI work which I'm basing my small SkyNet tutorial upon. The first project, some of you have seen, is the campaign which is still in it's heavy development. Issues with triggers, terraining and data have not been a problem, though the models are. I'm still waiting on Thrikordias to release his new models (Which includes that female Dark Templar I've been aiming for), there are others I'll need to add animations for cutscenes (Faints, ghosts falling to their knees and falling dead without vanishing, and a High Templar suffering shock torture for a particular interrogation scene, as the antagonist has sadistic issues), and I'll need permission from GhostNova to alter one of his models (Texture only) for the campaign. Once I overcome that, it should be easy building it up until disclosure, beta testing and including voice acting too.
The second project is 'Earth II', an arcade-meant map which was recently disclosed and is relatively smaller compared to my campaign. The problems here at considerably smaller, encompassing finishing the factions, doing the triggers, finding someone later to make the heroes and the faction units whom needs a major data work and then doing the beta testing and preparing to launch it.
The third and final project is a Fanfiction I've recently introduced to Gradius here, named 'Heart of the Swarm Alternate', which I consider my protest writing for the travesty that was Metzen's writing (I confess, I was upset and disgusted, at the time I started it). So far I've had my share of lovers and haters, but the quality that refined and got better in later chapters was enough to get major people reviewing it and helping me fill gaps and adding important plot elements. And I confess I'm loving myself the effort I'm putting, but, let's be honest, anyone whom went through the official thing would consider the fanfic, would consider ANY fanfic a thousand times better.
Real life meanwhile has been peculiar, especially to the fact it hasn't rained a single moment in the whole state, while others have had up to their necks filled with water. Recently, when I'm resting, I've been keeping tabs on the Almost Human show. Definitely reccommended, might I add.
Sure you can alter whatever you like. I'm excited to see this interrogation scene it sounds really cool. Never thought Protoss shock torture would ever happen in a map.
Only got through to the Umojan stuff but wow you have talent with writing. I'm looking forward to reading the rest when I get off work.
This and other scenes of story importance to the campaign will very much depend on the foreign animations (From other models like the Xel'Narud one) and if I can compile them to the models I want. If not, either I'll have to find someone who can do it or a real ace in animating stuff, something just too rare to find here (No offense, TaylorMouse). If neither are possible, the campaign will be *very* harmed.
Also, on the fanfic, I'm quite a bit stuck on the Kaldir part, particularly the first mission (The three Protoss Spires), so it'll take some time before the finished version can come out. It's as more troubling as the Char Fortress battle, I assure you that.
I'm doing the first year of a Bachelor in Business/Economics. Trying to swim 3000m in 60 minutes or less (currently at 67).
Also working on Amber Sun (terrain is finished for 08, 09 is also almost finished entirely). I'm also planning the trilogy's concluding chapter, Aureolin Eclipse (you heard it here first).
I'm a biologist and I'm trying to finish my master degree project in Ecology and Evolution, but last year was terrible and I've been feeling demotivated about it. I was supposed to finish it this month but I had to ask for more time so the plan is to get it finished by May. After that I'll be unemployed and I have no idea what to do.
As a hobby I went back to buying Lego and trying to be more creative with it. But without a job it will have to stop. I'll probably go back to hunting achievements in SC2 and trying to get my ladder teams out of bronze or silver.
My SC2 projects are mostly waiting for this master degree to end, but I had to fix tons of bugs in SC Expanded because of that new extension mod feature.
@DeltaCadimus: Go I forgot to ask where you live. We are probably the only Brazilians still hanging around here and still I know way more about the Italian guys than you.
Do we have any undercover agents? To remain discreet, if we have any undercover agents here on SC2Mapster, say "I am not an undercover agent." It can be our secret code ;)

Nice. What do you do? Swim competitively or open water?
I swim in a pool, but not competitively. Used to be in a club when I was younger, first as a swimmer, then coach. Now I just swim by myself (or with friends). Tried my goal yesterday. Finished in 1 hour 1 minute (I was on schedule, but got serious leg cramps with a 100 m remaining).
I spend most of my time studying physics these days. I'd like to be an engineer.
Outside of school, I (used to) swim competitively, and now spend a lot of spare time developing software, as well as trying to get into game development outside of SC2. Last summer I quit mapmaking after getting my map Atlas played in the GSL Season 2, but I just recently decided to switch back to SC2 for Arcade modding (melee community is pretty much dead anyway, the reason I quit in the first place). I have been stalking the forums mostly, but finally got around starting a new project up this week together with a friend of mine. You'll hopefully get to hear more in the near future :)
I swim too - although not competitively these days. A few years ago, back when I was 16, I managed to break 10 km in 2 h (pool). It really feels great reaching one's personal goals; I wish you good luck! :)
I recently found this community. Pretty exciting!!
I used to be a Math Teacher, but left cause it was just too crazy. I love Math, but felt like I was making kids hate it even more than they already did. It was seriosuly weighing me down cause I always had awesome Math teachers. Oh and I worked in the "hood" of Philadelphia, which was not terrible and the pay/benefits were pretty amazing imo, but it came with certain challenges. Now I am a glorious construction worker!! I work for myself, which is awesome and really stressful at times, but I get to listen to history podcasts all day (Mike Duncan and Dan Carlin are my best friends). However, I get 0 sick days and 0 vacation days and when things fall apart I am the only one to blame. I got into Starcraft2 after leaving the teaching scene and have found it the best $40 investment I have made in my life. I'm getting more fascinated with PCs and programming, but I have no idea where it is all going, but I've been learning some Python on top of trudging through the galaxy editor. Also, I just signed up for one of those edx classes cause I need some structure. I think, in the long run, I would like to go back to school for some sort of PC/Coding track, but want to see how this edx class goes before I pursue it.
I used to be a huge bicycle rider. 3 or 4 times a week I would go ride 20 to 50 miles around the city. Also, my wife and I have ridden over 2500 miles together across parts of the US!! You do something like that and you know your marriage is gonna last!! Sleeping in a tiny tent with your partner for 2 months will test your sanity and make living in a house with them a cake walk. I have sorta fallen off the wagon/bicycle of late, but hope to get back into it. If I glance out the window I see 10 inches of snow so just lots of day dreaming and push ups at the moment.
Looking forward to playing more custom campaigns, contributing my own and making an all around amazing custom campaign scene!!
Would highly recommend learning Java if you haven't already. Python has it's usages, but Java is such a better starting language. It is a great bridge into CPP, which is then obviously a great bridge into C (and CSharp). That's the path I took at least, and it worked great. Java got my mind in OO programming, then from that I eventually learned C, which is great for non-OO programming. That's my opinion, at least. There are many people who I'm sure would disagree with me.
I haven't been checking this site enough lately... Look at all the cool threads I missed.
I've been doing a lot of writing for the past few years (I was told this was quite a funny read), written well over a thousand A4 pages which I think is somewhere around half a million words. Recently started developing a world for a story together with my friend, we already wrote about 50 pages worth of history and other things related to designing a world (I never really put that much effort into something like this before, usually I just improvise)
I picked up WoW again about five months ago. Finally defeated Garrosh Hellscream with my guild a few weeks ago, and today I killed the first six bosses on heroic difficulty of Siege of Orgrimmar (Current and last tier raid of this expansion). Quite enjoying the Shaman class, playing the Elemental and Restoration specs mostly. Chain lightning is the best spell ever. Also got a monk to max level and having quite a lot of fun tanking with him.
My computer seems to be dying, and I can't really get a replacement atm :/ Massive issues with loading anything whatsoever, and recently it also started randomly using the integrated graphics of the CPU instead of my actual graphics card for no reason, so sometimes I have to restart games because I cant get a decent framerate... Very inconvenient if all you play is multiplayer games...
That game idea sounds interesting Taco :)
TL;DR: I don't have a life

Spending most of my free time with Hearhtstone Arena, fucking shit game is addictive!:)
Link pls.
Also I think it's fine if people link and advertise their own stuff a bit in this thread - it seems to fit.
