Hey folks just wondering if anyone has some ideas on where to buy a new computer and what kind. I'm thinking I might want a laptop because I wanna be able to mess around in the editor wherever I am. Buuut it's probably a better idea to just buy a desktop that way I can keep upgrading it easier whenever things get out-dated. I've checked out newegg.com they seem pretty legit, any thoughts?
Oh and sc2m.com needs to be the official sc2 map makers forum IMO you guys are doing far better off than the blizzard forum.
When deciding on whether to get a laptop or a desktop, just think about this: Do you want power or portability? For instance, a work PC would be better being a laptop because it (probably) doesn't need to have a quad core with 8GB ram and a powerful GPU. You would however, (probably) need to carry it around with you.
I would recommend a desktop for gaming because:
Less chance of overheating
Easier to upgrade
Often is cheaper
If you decide to go for a desktop, i'm assuming it would be for gaming. So here is what I would recommend getting:
Intel i5/ i7. Powerful CPUs, but at a relatively cheap price.
4GB of RAM or more. Vista and Win 7 use a lot of RAM, and so do games. 2GB would probably be enough, but you would have to stop other RAM heavy programs if you want to play SC2.
ATI or Nvidia GPU. Either of these would work fine, but ATI is generally better value for money. I would recommend the 6800 series.
Sites to buy from:
Newegg.com (For people from the USA and possibly Canada. Never used it because i'm british, but heard it's good)
Dabs.com (Like Newegg, but ships to the UK. Not sure about US)
PCSpecialist.co.uk (Ships to the UK only. However, is probably the best deal, and is built for you as well)
need to upgrade graphics card still, currently have a 9800 GT. I want the nVidia 560 ti from ASUS.
I got all my stuff from microcenter, just walked in and picked the stuff up. Already had power and graphics and with rebates it was just under $700 I think. The microcenter was an hour drive from home, which is why I went there.
mmm i wouldnt buy a premade one because they are super expensive. but if you do don't fall for the ZOMG "this gaming desktop is top of the line" its not good to waste all that money on top of line when new shit for pcs keep coming out faster and faster(my opinion) plus gaming desktop is vague term and shouldn't be used in defining a computer its just a way to attract people.
cheapest would be to build your own. but get advice from friends who know how to do it and have them sit there help you on your first run through

Ever consider putting a desktop together? It's not as hard as it sounds and will result in better equipment for the same price.
Also, Newegg.com is great for most pc needs.
