Well, technically seen that might not be true. I don't know, it'd be hard to compare. The thing is moreso that it's not about doing harm or good - it's also about the way one acts towards other members. If it were purely about doing harm or good then any random Blizzard employee could join our forums here and insult literally everyone here in every post - he'd still be 'doing more good than harm' because of his work on SC2 and such.
Personally I think his "outbursts" or whatever anyone wants to call it have gotten better. Not that they don't exist anymore they're far more controlled and quite frankly are far and few between. In the Skype chat we do tease him a bit and his retaliations generally aren't to extreme (no more so than most internet stuff). Anyway the point is his behavior has improved as far as I can tell, that or I don't spend enough time in the chat.
Well users do get pissed off, I am sure i have pissed of plenty of people as have people pissed me off. Doesn't mean they should be banned. That being said if a sc2 employee or tainted wisp is causing more people to leave or not be active than he is encouraging more people to come and be active, this is the criteria with which i hope all forums use to decide banning.
As a side note:
As for sixen I disagree with the decision than the contents of the PM be posted for all to see when the message was sent in private which i believe there is a expectation of privacy and confidence he wanted it dragged out into the public he would have done so.
Well users do get pissed off, I am sure i have pissed of plenty of people as have people pissed me off. Doesn't mean they should be banned.
Like I said: permaban is a harsh punishment. However, while opinions differ, I do say that somebody who has received repeated warnings and starts off on a tirade like that deserves some form of a time out.
As a side note: As for sixen I disagree with the depression than the contents of the PM be posted for all to see when the message was sent in private which i believe there is a expectation of privacy and confidence he wanted it dragged out into the public he would have done so.
You know what - you're actually right here. I thought I had considered all angles before putting up my screenshots and I still think I've gone through all of them - except TW's own viewpoint. I've deleted the second picture that showed his second 'most incriminating' PM to Sixen.
His contributions to mapster's knowledge base combined with moderators viglience means to me that he is promoting sc2mapsters more than he is harming it.
Uh....who cares? Why should that factor into a moderation decision in the slightest?
Contextual note : i just got permed for being "me" on tl for the 4th time: (message: You have been banned by Plexa. Reason: Please stop making accounts.)
3 years ago i arrived from tl .. pissed off like a bat out of hell wanting to get justice / revenge and stomp someone.. anyone
that got me plenty of labels .. such is life, unfair and brutal, the more you give the more they take...
wisp is (can be.. depending on the point of view) a dork, a tool, a red neck, stupid, racist, bigot ... (i could go on..) .. be that as it may (those words apply-able to wisp ... true or false i care not) .. moderation can do better than banning.. can it not?
this extra time taken by moderators or admins is (seems) lost for taking time on top of other things, having to "deal" with people who "go too far", ..
but it only seems.. it is not lost, this time is essential
(believe me i find wisp uninteresting per say, and like most posts on the internet.. mine is only meant as self serving)
IT IS PURE LAZINESS on anyone's part to not try to raise the bar, to not go the extra mile.. reforming wisp is something to aspire to.. not something to be mocked or ridiculed
in closing i just wanted to add a huge and gravel filled f_ck you to all who "proudly" declare that "this is the internet lol and it is "lost" .." if you can't stomach this or that then you are a this or that ..and should know better"
again f_ck you!!! all you people are the reason the internet is as it is.. you lazy f_cken bunch of pansies who can't stomach the work to be done
tldr: perms are for old ladies, mapster should never be tl...
Here's my opinion: Yeah, he does a lot of good. But by acting the way he does, he prevents other useful members of the community from contributing because they are too busy dealing with his BS. And to top it all off, he is a massive pain in the rear, and creates a negative atmosphere in the community.
Seems like someone spends a lot of time on the forums and chat sights.. So much time that tainted's comments and trolling rubbed them raw, and now hes banned because he said something quite harsh.
I don't know that I've seen anything more publicly unacceptable than the controversial comments from tainted about jews and homo's. But I can speak as the team leader of Team Genesis, on Skype and sc2mapster, that he is a jokester, and this is a sight for games... games which are used to pass time and be light hearted. .... Perma-ban? Serious consequences? If he wants back, let him. If he messes up again, then continue to make it difficult.. eventually he will stop. I'm sure sc2mapster, or any other sights did not suffer member losses.. or any losses aside from the time you've invested in reading these posts and fiddling with the moderator options to ban tainted.
As far as im concerned.. sc2's time is limited with only lotv to be released.. how are you supposed to make the most of the community by banning a skillful and helpful editor? IT'S A GAME! lol let him make his jokes. This is a place of learning and banning tainted from the site doesn't protect the members from the people around the world who are outspoken and opinionated. Let me mention freedom of speech. with that said, what have you accomplished by banning him?
if any moderators don't want to hear or speak with tainted ever again because his comments burn your eyes like acid... then block him, just as any other member would do if he offended them.
Seems like someone spends a lot of time on the forums and chat sights.. So much time that tainted's comments and trolling rubbed them raw, and now hes banned because he said something quite harsh.
I realize it can seem this way, but it honestly isn't the case. The thing is that TW's name passed by regularly in the mod forums before he got banned, which is a bad thing regardless the cause. The reason he was never banned earlier was because his offenses alone were generally barely worth a warning or such - it's just that they were definitely there. Additionally, there's a difference between 'joking' and just being tasteless.
As the one mod who has repeatedly defended TW (before he was banned in outspoken agreement with SEVEN other mods - keep in mind it's not just one person doing this) I can say that I am one of the hardest people that I know to be offended. I've defended the point of view that aside from all the bad, it's undeniable that some good things came forth out of the holocaust against my classmates in uni. I regularly make jokes about AIDS and other terrible diseases among friends. I've joked about religious people and atheists alike. The thing is, I know how to moderate (as in... 'mediate') and I know when and where the time is. Plus, I mean absolutely zero of it. And also, I realize that while 'gays might not be a race', you're still just being an assclown if you're defending random shouts of homophobia with that argument. TW so far hasn't shown he realizes enough of this to keep things friendly.
Either way, I'll probably take up the issue in the mod forum. Like I said; a temp ban is long and I haven't seen or heard from TW in several months - it'd be unfair for me to keep judging his actions back then. It's not just up to me, though.
You don't send a stallion out to the glue factory if it can win more races than it loses. if he is more useful than he is a pain in the ass then why not continue to let him be that way is the concept I'm expressing.
A permanent ban is a lazy ban. It should be a temporary ban. If I was permanently banned, I'd immediately make a new account. If I was temporarily banned, I'd wait for it, realize what I'm missing out on, and learn how to avoid it.
You guys don't even have to give him a warning the next time he pulls off another of his shitty humor. (Pfft, warning? Like that ever happened before my ban...)
I personally don't make jokes as stupid and tasteless as these, even in that popular anonymous image board. But that's where his jokes belong in. This website archives his posts and so can permanently damage the image of the forums... and that merits as an offense. You shouldn't be shitting up a forums for the public if you want to stay in it.
"This would be perfect if this were an IRL problem. "
? how is this (what i am typing right now ; when you press a button to ban TW) not real life?
ps: if TW wants to be here, offer him a "supervised account" that he will lose at the first sight of trouble.. he gets what he wants, some people get to "be right" others get the bonus suspense of waiting for him to fail .. smart entertainment value in my book (i am joking in this last sentence) .. see what he does with such an account.. see if he realizes what "proper conduct" is .. see if he is thankful for it ...
again, i do not feel TW is anymore than a drone among drones (me included) .. nuking people just isn't mapster savvy

I am aware of his racism.
But since you and the other moderators believe that he does more harm than good for us i yield to your judgement.

Honestly he sounds like he doesn't even know what he wants. Its actually kinda comical, his back and forth.

Probably for spouting bigotry & homophobia.
