I bricked my old laptop but then I found a refurbished version of this one for $300 cheaper than retail. Saved up some dough and grabbed it before they sold out. But when I got it I found out it had some bad RAM so I'll have to call Asus for new stick.
I've gotta tell you... SC2 on ultra video settings is like a whole different game than low-medium.
Altough they got similar names g71gx, they aren't sames: I got a g71gx 7T010J.
The screen is very large for a laptop: 1920*1200. When I finally got it (commanded out of stock late July 2009, got early September...), I just was just stunned by the size. I expected a large screen, but not such large.
About graphics: nVidia 260M GTX is in one word wonderful. Play crysis with very high graphics. A single option cannot be very high, but (only) high: nuanceurs (I don't know how it's told in English). On the last boss, I keep every option very high, but nuanceurs get medium.
All other games are easily maxed out. Starcraft 2 doesn't really detect my card, and suggest me medium or low for every options (lol). Especially for texture quality: medium is said to fit with 256mo, and ultra with 1024mo. I got 1024mo, and he suggests me medium...
I just override default graphics to ultra, and it works very nice: fps remains high, even in large battles.
When working on the editor, this is very handy to avoid horizontal scrollbars.
i do when i have to. but it cant handle 'ultra' smoothly like my desktop can. laptop is a last case scenario, but a convieniece none the less. and im with you sixen, i dual monitor my desktop on my monitor / hd tv. though i know its not necessary, to not have it would suck now that im used to it. :)

Yeah, no doubt. I can be in-game on my main monitor and be chatting in the IRC on the other. That's what i've been doing... And then when i'm playing WoW, I can google stuff if needed, :P.
i plan on it, going for this baby here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220695 its better than my desktop so why not haha. Sure i could build a desktop better than that for the same price, but it would be nice to edit maps on the go and beable to SC2 in class hahaha
Processing power slows down after the laptop starts building heat.
You can only get the most of the laptop if you've got those external fans to put the laptop on. They work well when you need your laptop's power nearly 100%

I game with a laptop. It's a crappy one at the moment and barely plays SC2 (most of you know this if you've seen the Kheldrun movie). I plan on getting a better laptop sometime in the future.

That would explain my games lagging D:
-Searches the garage for a fan-
My Compaq Windows 7 laptop can't run SC2 very well on high settings D:
I'm looking for a way to get $800 so I can get this baby.
look at the comparative tables here: http://www.nvidia.co.uk/page/geforce_m_series.html
335M GT isn't very good. You should better look for a graphic card, and then select laptops. That's what I did.
3XX aren't better than 2XX GTX. If you don't seek for such performance, you shall look for at least GTS card.
My computer heats much more than a hairdryer. But the fan is working well, and I can play hours without any issue.
Same sorta thing here. If I don't have it charging for more than like an hour it'll turn off, but its still "technically" a laptop.
Runs SC2 on max settings full screen with no lag whatsoever while also downloading 4-5 torrents, this thing is a beast.
I game with my laptop, not because laptops are preferable for gaming, but because this laptop is more powerful then my current pc, and I have a nice external mouse. :)
I play on a laptop, 2ghz core 2 duo, nvidia 8600 gt, 2gb ram @ 533 mhz. Other than long load times it plays great. Laptops arent bad for gaming, other than cooling problems. Which seriously suck.

So who else games with a laptop?
I use a laptop but it's definitely not an awesome one...I'd prefer a desktop, cheaper for more power.
I play with this amazing one:

I just use my Laptop for classes, I have to use my dual-widescreen monitors at home with my desktop to game on, :).

Whaaaat? A new alienware laptop for the same price as this refurbished one? ..... man.
I game on a laptop, but I don't think laptop is the right word for it... In my case portable desktop : P
Maxes out SC2 no problem at all and pretty much any game out there.
Maxed out M17xR2 if anyone was wondering... Not cheap at all.

I use my laptop because it´t the only computer I have^^
High settings work fine, Ultra laggs
I don't recommend using a laptop for gaming, for starcraft II mapmakers it's a good idea though, work on your project just about anywhere.
