The National Defense Authorization Act just passed, thats how much your constitution worth...
(Obama can still veto it, but he wont, his presidency is unconstitutional too....)
Well I don't disagree with you.
Hello Communist America, I wonder whats next. Who wants to place bets on how long it takes them to round up everybody with legal fire arms......
Btw Second Amendment not really worth much in the age of airplanes and nuclear missiles as back than in 1791. But even so its still getting attacked.
I wonder how much people understand the aims of the US constitution in America. 1%? or less?

Our right to bare arms is our most sacred right and its working great, But we need to disallow Handguns, and automatics.... the rest can be your defense, but have a hunting purpose too...you cant hunt deer with an uzi
and to Soulcarver... Just shut up. If you hate america then leave.... If you just dont like some of the things that happen then you petition.... either way stfu..
and we already had this bill in place, But its pointless... because weather it fully passes or not, we will shut it down.
While I mean no offense, most of the stuff I'm reading here is pretty terrible. And I'm not talking about the bills in question. Why do you all presume to have enough information to come to a good conclusion when all you've got is links to a good three news posts or so? Do you even know how bills are deployed? How votes for or against them are counted? What happens if a bill that seems to be in stride with the constitution is suggesed for implementation? Who writes out these bills? What their history is? What your other rights are in situations like these?
I sure as heck don't, and I don't act like A) America is turning into a totalitarian country or B) I know everything about the subject and have an informed and meaningful opinion. I'm willing to accept that you guys, as Americans, know more about American politics than me, a Dutchie, but I'm willing to bet the stuff we're talking about here kind of requires some serious study on the subject. You are linking random bits of text and shouting after them without comprehending why and how they were written. You know who else does that? Conspiracy theorists, religious fanatics and worst of all, politicians.
greetings from europe, should we worry about this? too be honest I don't really know horse shit about america so don't hate on me but the land of the free sounds like the land of censorshipcopyright to me nowadays
It will affect europe, Any american site can be taken down, Im sure you use atleast 2-4 american sites daily. Just as americans use 2-4 european sites daily.
Mozard, Ive read into it, contacted the Congress woman, to find out more, that stupid bitch is with the bill, but I expected as so.

Just checked, and im 90% sure that Curse is based out of CA, USA, which means it could be shut down, Potentially, just one media site complains.
@Mozared: Go
We may dont know everything, but at least we dont ignore stuff.
Your questions are pretty straight forwards... and has nothing to do with the actual bill.
It doesnt needs serious study, google both bills, read it, they arent so long and They do go against many stuff...

It doesnt needs serious study, google both bills, read it, they arent so long and They do go against many stuff...
No offense, but if you're still saying this you didn't understand my post. Suppose the full texts of those bills were on the internet, and suppose we'd know with 100% certainty that they'd be implemented in the exact way we'd see it right there. Then do you honestly think they'd just start closing down random sites? This is what SoulCarver was saying; you're a fool if you think that a couple of people passing a bill means that suddenly all your interwebs will belong to them. People have been lobbying and 'fighting piracy' for YEARS, look where that brought them - a google on 'torrent' gives you a gazillion free downloads, and the best they've been able to do is some mild censorship on Youtube videos that utilize specific songs.
My questions actually have a heckload to do with the actual bill. Because even without knowledge of the American legal system, I can tell you for a fact that there's a gazillion rules, states and bureaucratic centres such a bill would have to pass through before it would really come to the point where companies would ACTUALLY, LITERALLY have the right to close down sites such as curse. The reason I'm ignoring it is because I'm not worried, based on what I've heard. If shit was actually on the verge of going serious, we'd know it, and that would be a time to see what exactly is up and then possibly to erupt. The internet would be piled high with shouts and we'd have outcries about that stuff in the newspapers.
Like I mentioned, you're doing the same thing as conspiracy theorists and religious fanatics; mindless yelling over some piece of text. I'd be willing to bet you a hundred bucks that in a year's time, fairly little will have changed and we'll still be happily posting around here on Mapster (assuming Curse doesn't shut the site down due to lack of traffic, anyway). This is most likely true for five years time as well, and even ten. I can't look much further into the future, but even though it seems clear that there will be harsher rules about piracy, I don't think we, in our lifetimes, are ever going to reach the point where companies will shut down random fansites that don't host clearly illegal content.
Again: if you really think googling a bill gives you the information you need to know, and a cause to protest openly and exclaim how America is turning into a paradise of censorship, then I pray you will never vote.
Im not denying Mines 100% conspiracy theory, But I as an American am not confortable for non governement (or anyone really) to have the power to put you through the judicial system and shut down your site without warning, And i dont know if any of you heard, But Google LEFT AMERICA, not even kidding its now based in france....
@Mozared: Go
I guess you would only notice when shits gets serious when you face years in jail.
I dont want harm you, but I never saw such ignorant arguing. You actually arguing with the statement that you dont know anything, but we are still crazy conspiracy guys (or dont know what you think about us exactly).
For me this bill just tip of the iceberg. I dont agree with current copy right laws. Any copyright which lasts more than 1 year is just insane, specially in not entertaining areas.
@Mozared: Go I guess you would only notice when shits gets serious when you face years in jail.
I dont want harm you, but I never saw such ignorant arguing. You actually arguing with the statement that you dont know anything, but we are still crazy conspiracy guys (or dont know what you think about us exactly).
Wait, what? Dude, really?
Let me give it one last attempt: you're either not reading my posts, or you don't understand them. You're free to not agree with current copyright laws, but what you're doing here is linking random articles and basing your entire view on that. If there's anyone ignorant, it's you. Again: do you have ANY idea how the US legal system works? Because if you don't, you really shouldn't be talking. The fact that you are acting as if you know what random bill X on random website Y will mean for your country as a whole is kind of insulting to lawyers, legal experts and politicians, to be honest. Answer the questions I asked earlier. Find me a couple of decent sources instead of one random news site, and explain to me what things like the Lanham Act and undersection 501 of title 17, united states code mean. Or better yet, find me someone with a background in legal advice or (and, at best) politics who has a detailed opinion on the subject. THEN we're talking.
What you're doing is the equivalent of creating a shitstorm about me writing down "Hookah604 should give me all his money" on a note and starting a political party with that as my primary aim. There are MILLIONS of people torrenting illegal wares EVERY MINUTE. Believe me when I say that you WILL see an outcry about something that will actually matter WAY before the cops knock at your door.
Either that, or you can keep thinking your opinion stands for something when it's based on no other knowledge about the legal system than a random newssite. I would say that at that point I wouldn't care as it's your loss, but I shamefully know better than that.
@Mozared: Go
lol You are funny. I start thinking you are trolling for fun. You doesnt bring up anything to argue against my stand, you just attacking my person.
Now should I show expert opinion or the bill itself? I cant follow you. If you want expert opinion, use the wiki, its usually pretty solid: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stop_Online_Piracy_Act#Ramifications I already showed the bill, yes there are proposals to change the bill it self, but as I said I think they should be downgrading their current copyright laws and not building up. So I will be against any new copyright laws.
section 501 of title 17: http://www.bitlaw.com/source/17usc/501.html
Lanham Act is copyright laws too.
Its not quantum physics and even quantum physics can be learned pretty fast, if you have the background. And yes I know pretty much how the US legal system works.
I didnt want to use the word of ignorant against you, but you bring it up, so I will say this: It seems like that you dont want know anything about the world you live in.
The "conspiracy" theorists name people like you sheeple and in that particular "theory", they are pretty right.
With this statement I probably lost any chance to make you more aware of your surrounding, but I already give up, I have probably better things to do. Like making a nice map for Xmas:D
The only thing I attacked in 'your person' is your inability to look past newssites and now wikipedia. Plus, YOU brought up the word ignorant. I even quoted you in my post, for heaven's sake.
But fair enough, let's leave it at that: I don't want to know anything about the world I live in and I don't care about my surroundings, even though I've said multiple times that what I want to form an opinion is MORE information. I'm sure wikipedia will guide you through this world, my friend.
I only know of the law system because it is part of highschool, you HAVE to know it to graduate.
That being said, all my information have been from News sites, Publicknowledge.com, letters from my states senator and house represenitive, and governor
As for anyone else I dont know if they have actually gone past the news sites. So I dunno, It still scares the shit outta me, Google moved to france, and microsoft is backing it, I think if this bill or any of these bills pass, we will see the first cyber War, I think you will see ALOT of computers being fried, due to viruses sent out by the super-giants that are google and microsoft, and if you dont think this COULD happen, you are mistaken....
But the main issue I have is it Overrights Fair use, Which means no more parodys, no more Talking about something, no more showing a clip for education purposes.
All that being said, no reason to fight with others, Those who fight only stupen onesself to thier level
@Taintedwisp: Go
You are probably over reacting the stuff.
Yeah it was posted on the better news agencies. (These probably dont include any US news agency)
Why would google or microsoft make viruses against their own market... doesnt makes much sense. Viruses is the past anyway. Hacking and information gathering is the new business.

Google and Microsoft hate each other... Why just collect data when they can corrupt their systems?
It COULD happen, not saying it WILL happen... The chances are unlikely, but if all three of these bills pass, I wouldnt be suprised if a civil uprising occurred... just because This would be the line that is stepped over...
People are not happy as it is with the governement and its waste of money, and stopping piracy( and all non offical entertainment such as Thatguywithttheglasses, =3 and several other internet media wont help shit) isnt going to hurt or help the industry, but it could be the final piece into turning this Recession into a Depression, Last time we had a depression was the first year women could vote...
