I find that multiplayer maps sacrifice immersion (especially in RPGs) and I dislike how match-making doesn't consider how many times a player has a played a game when matching them, pairing veterans with noobs. Anyway, just search "single player campaign," there are actually quite a few very decent ones.
I really enjoyed the mission4 on the Crimson Moon campaign, the Black Kahn.
It had nice story-telling elements, well, the whole Crimson Moon campaign had that, but mission 04 stands out as original and refreshing with it's sole focus on dialoge and story-driven stealth objectives. I have had played some similar RPG-like missions in Warcraft3 that where also based around just walking and talking, but they felt a bit too gimmicky.
Funny you mention that njordys... that Black Khan mission was the only one I didn't care for that I've played from that campaign. I found it somewhat dull and actually ended up stopping halfway through.
Having play-tested The Black Khan so many times, I've begun to agree that some of the rooms are far too long (the original rooms were even bigger!). :D I am still mostly satisfied with it, though. It was an experiment, and I think it gives the campaign "that little extra". Should I make another campaign, I'd certainly do something like it again, though I'd certainly learn from my mistakes! I had to learn so much when making this, and it was somewhat of a "learn-while-doing" process.
Glad to see such great feedback. I finished the campaign yesterday. I hope people will play it through.
Now, to the topic. I too like the remake of the SC1 campaigns (though it's obviously not original an original story). I have some problems, though. Much of the terrain is too loyal to SC1, where terraining works in a completely other way. In SC2, there is a lot more detail, for instance.
It's bittersweet that some of what Blizzard promised about the editor is only practical in single player.
I like single player, but only in the context of multiplayer. Meaning, it's frustrating that many of these popular maps don't even function properly when you load them in single player (supposing you feel like exploring the finer details). It's like, have both assholes, or else it feels like I care more about the map than the author. Where is the pride?

I think they are aware of that problem though and I think they will fix it for LotV or at some other point in the future.

It did have problems with empty space and long empty corridors, but it was pretty original, made me think of sc1 campaigns for some reason.
Me I don't really have a favorite yet, so many projects are either remakes, incomplete or bugged, it might end up being Crimson Moon though.

As for original campaigns, I like Brood the best.
