Hello everyone, I have fallen out of touch with this wonderful forum because I have found more active things to keep me busy lately. I have not played the actual game in a few months and I have seemed to have lost all interest in mapping too. Since I am simply a terrainer my works need not be improved on because they cannot be animated by my hands. Therefore I feel as though I am wasting my time building things for nothing. The project I have last created fell through because one of my teammates decided to tell me a few months later that he did not have time to work on it because he was too busy enjoying himself with other things. I might get around to posting a download for the project here if anyone would like to take it at this point. I would hate to see the work wasted. All it needs is triggers for enemies and team-related things such as finishing up the respawn buttons. I might work on making simple projects myself in the future if I get the itch. I suppose my goals were too advanced when I first came here and my inexperience with it didn't help. Well enough about that, hello everyone, anything new going on around here or is it same-old-same-old?
anything new going on around here or is it same-old-same-old?
Depends on how long you were away, but I'd say a little bit of both. I was away for 4 months (mostly during summer), and I saw lots of things were done for the community (newbie Wednesday, map of the week, sc2streamster, the "get your map in our front page" system,...). I came back a little too late so I don't know that much about it, but I like what I have read so far and I find this very interesting. I can see that other members have left the forums as well, probably because of their personal lives or just because Skyrim is awesome... and newer.
I lost interest in mapping during these 4 months (professionally speaking as well, to be honest), but I still keep doing a few updates here and there when I'm in the mood for it, so I can understand how you feel... I'm expecting the expansion(s) to boost my interest in SC2 and modding again, so I think I'll come back into mapping for a few months when I'll get my hands on HotS. Hopefully you'll do the same and you will make some progress on your maps too. Aside from that, I'd say sc2mapster as a whole is pretty much the same. We're still lacking testers but we have plenty of ideas! :D
What is Skyrim exactly? It's an RPG right? Well I can just check it out later. I really need to refresh my game collection anyway. I am hoping Skyrim and Diablo 3 won't require knowledge of the other games in the series to understand them. Between playing other games, homework, and learning about computers I haven't felt like much else.
It can be nice to have played the other Elder Scrolls games when playing Skyrim so you can understand the occasional reference to another of them, but those little things are far from essential to enjoying the game.
Actually wondered where you went and i recognize some of what you said although i very much enjoy building things for nothing.
Problem for me is feedback; People saying that they need help and then leave the forum without saying goodbye leaving me with a half built terrain... But i assume i can forget stuff or just be plain lazy from time to time.
Anyway has your team gone seperate ways too because it seemed it was pretty tight at some point or what is up with that?
Well I still keep in touch with one of our teammates on skype but since I tried to give the map to the next person who says they would work on it when they got the chance I figured things were going ok. Earlier this week he told me he couldn't help like he first said he could. As for the project it is currently dead but I could post a link if anyone would like to have a look at it. Effort was made to get it done but I'm not the trigger guy so I wouldn't know how much needs to be finished at this point.
I've also been pretty inactive lately... but that is about to change this coming friday... like... I'll have about 100% more free time. I'm already throwing some ideas around for a new Uber, some kind of Zerg Uber anyways... and possibly start on my first big project, if I can fill out some details on a few of my ideas and then choose ONE of them to work on...
Yea, I did get a bit uninterested with the Editor, but my free time was dwindling rapidly and my heart wasn't in it, even though all I ever did was for fun/no serious project.
Skyrim...
You don't need to have played the previous Elder Scrolls games to understand what is going on in Skyrim... but it will definitely add some flavor to your gameplay... like... I found Mai'q the Liar in Skyrim... Mai'q was in Morrowind and Oblivion(Oblivion took place 6 years after Morrowind).
Skyrim takes place 201 years AFTER Oblivion did... and how the hell can Mai'q still be alive? hehe, silly Bethesda. He's dressed the same and even the same voice.
I "left" SC2, too, just too annoying. I'm super-happy making crappy android/flash games. Until Blizzard fixes Battle.net, I'm not returning. I get in-game when I'm really bored to play some league, but that's all.
And yeah, no posting on SC2M since some time ago, but I still read the news. Nothing new seems to be going on the forums (correct me if I'm wrong, please).

My terrain engine's backend is kind of working now. At least it gives me the numbers I wanted for the most part.

I have that problem with artists, only I'm not allowed to use anything they made and have to more or less start over.

Maybe the cat things live for a long time.
Ah, I never caught that bit of convo, hehe. But that would make sense.
No, the Khajiit are not long lived.
