I've been playing Starcraft 1 and Diablo 2 recently, and while the resolution is low, they both reminded me how cool they looked. I've started to crave that 2d style, but it's obviously been quite shelved away in favor of 3D games. There's a bit of resurgence of it on mobile right now, but contrarily, many mobile games are just ugly/blocky 3D. Kind of a shame, because I think on lower-powered hardware, it's much cooler to use isometric 2D.
Yes I would really like to see more 2D games. There is nothing wrong in 2d, it can look just as cool.
I mainly would like to have like something like fallout 2 or ultima online 2d...with same budged as a 3d game would cost I would imagine gettin MORE features and larger world.
Im more of a I want larger world with cheaper assets than ultra high definition 3d graphics, even thou I dont know if it would actually be that much cheaper and you cannot just hire 1000 people and expect all to have clear vision of good game design.
Yeah isomnetrics rule. I remember opening Baldur's Gate maps, those were BMP files, like 5000x5000 pixels, that's why that game had 4 CDs lol. But still BG 1 and 2 beat Neverwinter Nights graphics hands down.
And I love SC1 isometrics too, the doodads were beautiful. I used to mod and create new doodads and all I needed was PAINTBRUSH!

Cossacks 1.35 was the best 2d rts game ever, due to its 2d it easily handled games with 10k+ units. When you have 2k unit vs 2k unit battle its very interesting to micro it.D

indie games xp
What I hate the most is texture blending in 3d games like SC2. In 2D isom terrain, everything blends perfectly.
Oh yeah Baldur's Gate looked really cool too.
