How many of you have made the move from SC2 maps into iPhone apps? We decided to give it a try but it's definitely a lot more effort to get right in my opinion. You're also competing with close to 500k other apps (and growing).
Here's a short gameplay trailer of my team's 1st App Store game - Night Runner. It's available on any App Store globally. Any feedback?
Been playing around with UDK so I can make iOS apps but recent video card driver issues have caused trouble with transparency and other effects making UDK not work.
Our team has mobile app project planned in the future as well. The great thing about all these different tools (the Editor, Mobile Apps, Console DLC, etc) is the opportunity they provide for smaller teams to get a start and make money. Something that 5-10 years ago would have been impossible.
I've actually been making iPhone apps before I started map making.
Recently just released (as some of you know) the diablo iii armory app with Sixen. It's a lot of fun making apps but Blizzard stuff gives you so much art to work with.
Exposure is hard with apps, whereas on the map list or map marketplace you'll probably have a lot better chance. But not many have the resources to make entire 3d collections of art like an HL2 mod... whereas on iOS you can make 2d games :D
Even though it says you need a mac you can do a hackintosh. They won't know the difference. Also you'll have to pay Epic $99 the first time you make money and apple $99 for their dev fee. I had a chart showing money made in the app store using UDK. Also Corona requires money to even download, not worth it for a single person imo or a small dev team starting out. UDK is overkill but it can still make 2d games. Also 2d games require artist just the same as 3D. I think the quality is about the same either way if it's a starting team.
2D requires an artist, but I can just go post on one of many game making communites I use and say "can I haves some sprites plz?" and people will make them, no problem. Models are WAY harder to make, and much more time consuming. Plus model editors are not something most people have just laying around- 3ds max is really expensive.

Feel free to Send me a PM if you have any questions/concerns!
Most modellers have 3ds max or blender at least. Otherwise they can't really be modellers. Also if they're a student then they probably got a free version of 3ds max.
I really appreciate the topic which you have discussed over here. Making an iPhone app is not an easy task. I have been tried to have made the move from SC2 maps into iPhone apps but I failed. Recently I have been tried to recover apple account but I got an error then I took assistance from Apple Account Recovery team and they assisted me nicely in a short period of time.

Hmm, my team uses Corona SDK to make our iOS apps atm. Try that?
Watched your trailer, took me a minute or so to figure out the gameplay but it looks like it could be a lot of quirky fun!
Music is really well done. I like it man
Cool to see what SC2 mappers can come up with outside of the rts realm.

Looks kinda fun :D
I'd make apps if I could. But no mac = no apps. At least without UDK, and that's for really high-end, 3D stuff..
AED doesn't publish onto any Apple platforms.
And Zelda, there are a lot of PC game engines that publish to iOS and Mac.
