Hi guys, I'd like to have a moment of your attention and I'd like to personally tell you that, while the kitchen unit prices, special male body supplements and the miraculous substance to reduce weight in a blink are indeed all very cheap, there's only so much we can, as mods, actually do. This involves (1.) deleting the topic, in an incredibly inefficient way to do so, I have to add, and (2.) banning the user, which is pointless since the accounts are only created to post once or twice and never comeback.
I personally would like to take the time to apologise because, really, it embarrasses me that we get so many of these topics in a daily basis as it is something that it's ridiculously easy to fix but curse has absolutely failed to provide a solution for.
So yeah, I hope they don't bother anyone that much and… I guess there’s no need to comment on this topic, carry on!
Once again, I'm terribly sorry guys, good bye now!
The sad thing is, I don't even know if reporting does anything. It doesn't for me, either way. Curse is just very absent because they don't want to put energy into a low traffic site, it seems. The forum has multiple similar issues. For example, mods can only change the password on an account if they also have the original password; meaning this completely beats the point when it comes to manual password resets. If someone forgets his password and can't reset it through e-mail, he's effectively fucked and there's nothing we can do about it. We try to do what we can by banning spambots and posting for Curse's attention, but I don't even remember the last time anyone from the company popped up.
Without all the bots, I wouldn't be so popular in my PMs...
I see them the most come night time. Dunno if they're less active in morning, or mods are more active during day... or both.
I usually come here at night and catch at least 4-6 of them. I'd like to think that's the only time they post and that not many people notice them because they're at night, but yeah....
Also, moza's right, I don't think reporting does anything... I've never in my life received a single report from this site.

I do! They usually show up to post in our news to announce that they're going to shutdown some of our features for a while because they're fixing features for ANOTHER site :P
I kinda shy away from blaming curse for this stuff, because they're clearly running this place at a loss. I don't know how many people use the download feature, but I'm sure it's a non-zero amount, and that alone has to be a lot more than they bring in from ad revenue.
I swear it's always the same guy spamming adverts too. Some one kitchen manufacturer. Maybe there a place to complain and ask to be removed from their spam list, with the reason being that this place, with like 50 active users, cannot be worth spamming.
I figure the reports must go to some other curse moderators then. I've clicked on their names before, and it takes me to a site other than these forums. I also once got a thank you reply to a report. Also one of those times where an entire forums first page had spam, and I reported, it was taken down a few minutes later. I find it strange that you guys wouldn't also get the reports though.

I'm not so sure about that. Mapster isn't big and the database isn't all that full of stuff. I wouldn't be surprised if they could just chuck all of the stuff on a server they'd have standing around anyway. Regardless, claiming to support a site and then never bothering to fix basic issues is unfair to all parties involved.
The reports go to other curse mods, as I have done reports and gotten thank you's and verification of the report.
As for Curse not doing much for the site, understandable, it appears they are leaving it pretty much on auto pilot and thus unable to ever be an issue to them, in any technical way. Which sucks for us, since we can not make any major changes. And of course we are trapped by the usual network effect, that no one is able or willing to setup something equivalent and migrate everything. Not to mention copyright strikes again, because as far as I know, the content of the site (tutorials and what not) belong to Curse now, thus we couldn't port it even if we wanted to.

I agree with that. Sometimes I think we'd be better off asking Hive Workshop to expand their sc2 section and just migrate there. If nothing else, it'd widen the number of eyes that see active sc2 projects, especially now that sc2 has the wc3 assets.

Yea that is an option, I know site moving has been discussed before too. The way I see it though, is if the spam is the worst thing we have to deal with, it's easier to just keep going until curse decides to pull support, or a better alternative shows up.

Spam is merely one of the things. The site has many issues, tiny ones, that could be easily fixed. Others that require far more attention. But I see the point, is it's just the spam, we're better off not moving, but there's things that would make the site improve that wouldn't get done anyway.
Either way, this topic was just to say sorry guys not to start a revolution :P
But you know, we could start one ;o
Maybe we need ask North Korea to for permission to run the site this morning and spam bots this is really getting out of hand. Maybe curse should do like other sites are doing to prevent this sht. from happening as you make a new account it takes 24 to make a first post.
Turn on moderator preview for new accounts. I've only said it like 3 times. Unless you can't actually do that. Then, I'm afraid, it's time to upgrade to forum software from the 20th century at long last.

And I've opposed the idea every single time. I'd rather deal with a couple of spam topics on a bi-daily basis than force people who are looking for help or a community to wait until one of us has the time to get back to them. And even then, we'll likely also accept spam accounts as the difference is impossible to tell without any posts made.
That said: it's a moot point. Not because the forum software doesn't allow it, but because we can't turn it on. We being the moderators. I'm sure a Curse administrator could.
I wouldn't mind moving, but I'm as much against as I am in favour of the idea: I don't have the money nor code knowledge to set something new up and could only contribute by moderating... so I'll move if it makes sense to do so, but I can't "make this happen".
Wait, you're telling me there's no actual person on this board who has admin powers? Are you joking? I thought Sixen et all were admins?
It's much easier to check initial posts and see which ones are legit and then approve them (which then approves the account) rather than having to clean up the constant mess left behind by bots that only serves to drive newcomers away.
Wait, you're telling me there's no actual person on this board who has admin powers? Are you joking? I thought Sixen et all were admins?
Sixen was an admin, a long time ago. He sold the site to Curse, stayed on for quite a while as a paid Curse employee, and was then told he was going to lose his admin status because Curse no longer wanted to pay him. AFAIK he then had a talk with Curse and stayed on for free, but I still believe he's lost his admin privileges. I can ban his account, anyway, I know that much (Edit: I don't know how much that says, actually, I can ban every single Curse employee listed below). He hasn't really been around for ages either way and only ever still updates the front page with news occasionally, aside from doing some general maintenance/bot banning. Looking at his log, he did two things on April 28, two things on April 10, and some more things on April 7.
The Curse admins assigned to Mapster are Kaelten, Torhal and Prencher. The latter did some random site security updates on March 5 (but hasn't been here since February before that), Kaelten is around even less than Sixen and though Torhal is banning spammers on a daily basis, he has never even communicated with the mod team, AFAIK.

Assuming that is a thing, do you think someone would actually bother to enforce it?

This is a constant i report at least 3 spams a day depending on my different time zones.
