I'm totally clueless and virgin when it comes to 3D modeling. But I just discovered that there is a way to extract the SC2 assets, the problem is... I can't seem to make the Addon (Plugin) work. I can't import the asset that I want, Please guys help me out here, I want that asset 3D Printed soo BADLY. I'm not rich... but I will Reward you for your Help. I promise!!
Here's an example of importing the Ultralisk model from SC2 to Blender.
Open up Blender and go to Edit -> Preferences -> Add-ons
Make sure 'Community' is selected (for the filter) and search 'm3'
Tick the checkbox for the only listed hit 'Import-Export: m3addon for M3 form ...'
Open up the StarCraft 2 editor to the project that has the asset you'd like to import to Blender
Hit Alt + ` to bring up the Console (or go to Window -> Console) and type the word 'browse' and hit Enter to bring up the Archive Browser
Search for 'Ultralisk' and right click -> Export File on the entry 'Ultralisk.m3'
Back in Blender, click File -> Import -> StarCraft 2 Model / Animation (.m3/.m3a) ...
Import the .m3 file you just exported from the SC2 editor
For the textures you will also want to export the following files from the Archive Browser:
Back in Blender, go to the Shading tab and select the ultra body itself (not the two blades it has on its sidearms)
^ Make sure you have the Mesh selected, not the geometric cages (armature object) surrounding it. Just left click again until you have the ultra's body mesh selected.
A texture map should come up below the preview window with all the different textures linked together.
You want to set the 4 boxes that have an orange header to the file paths of the exported assets above (ultralisk_diffuse, ultralisk_emissive, etc.)
You'll be clicking on the file explorer icon to the right of the name of the image for that texture
Then the ultra should turn from pink (no textures assigned) to its normal in-game colors and textures (The blades on the sides of the ultra will still be pink. You can either delete them or click on them in the shading tab preview to find the name of the image file needed to be exported from the SC2 archive browser for their proper texture/color.)
Should be noted that if you use 3DSMax - 2016 required! - you can use TaylorMouse's M3 import script. Also install SC2ArtTools - we have pinned messages in the Discord for download links. After you make your edits, use SC2ArtTools (when installed it will be a top right menu option) to export it back out using the Export Floater from the menu's dropdown. Just tick Mopaq Paths in the export popup to make sure texture paths remain internal to the map or mod file.
If all else fails I can just send you a blend file or max file with whatever model you need to print, but BaneBirst explained the Blender side really well so you should be fine :)
First of all... allow me to express my gratitude and deepest appreciation for your will to help me. Unfortunately... I tried 5 versions of blender with 3 different "m3 Import" addons, and only in 1 version the addon was being installed, but when you tried to import a SC2 asset, it showed some error with Trackback bla bla bla... after 2 days of experimenting, trying to make it work... I just lost all of my nerves and began asking for help anywhere I could. If this method is working on your PC... could you PLEASE... PLEASE... extract the Hydralisk Skull (from Joes Bar "Wings of Liberty Campaign") and export it to any acceptable format for 3D software editing. Please, I want that Skull Printed and hanging on my living room sooo BADLY!! Thank you and peace out!
First... allow me to express my gratitude for your will to help me out. Were can I find 3DS Max 2016!? Yes I found some M3 Import Script here, which I already downloaded. But I wasn't able to find 3DS MAX 2016 yet. What is this SC2ArtTools!? Something official released by blizzard!? I just want that asset imported & 3D Printed. I want that Hydralisk Skull from Joes Bar (Wings of Liberty Campaign) haning on my Living Room, soo BADLY! I already found one company in China which can 3D Print up to 90cm (without splitting pieces). If you can extract that Skull for me and send it to me, I will reward you, just show me your PayPal, you deserve it! Thank you once again I deeply appreciate your willingness to help. Peace out!
