Hi everyone! I'm Jayborino, but my friends call me Justin... probably because that's my real name and it would be weird if they called me by an online username. Anyway, you may be familiar with my YouTube channel where I showcase boatloads of single player content across Blizzard's RTS games.
Two other community members, Pr0nogo and DeltronLive, and I are looking to bring about some cross pollination of these communities around our love for some good, ol' fashioned single player content. Creators from any of the three games can submit! We are really just looking to gauge interest and participation here at first with something more official coming later if we think enough folks will join in. These are all early ideas as we're looking for feedback at this point and we'll add more of the semantics later.
If you are interested in participating, please let us know here in the thread or by PM, thank you!!
Contest Rules and Conditions
Submissions must be playable in StarCraft 1, StarCraft 2, or Warcraft 3. To be clear, for ONE of these games.
Submissions must be single player only. Mission 1 of a possible campaign, a stand alone scenario map, or Arcade-y type maps which could include virtually any style of gameplay.
Submissions must be new maps, started at the time of the contest
Submissions must include instructions for how to play, whether it be in offline mode for StarCraft 2, on Battle.net, through the custom campaign interface of WC3, etc.
One submission per person/team.
This is still in brainstorming phases, we're looking for any feedback that could make this appeal to more contributors. We want the barrier of entry to be fairly low. See judging section below for answers to inevitable questions of imbalanced cross-game judging.
Prizes
Depending on # of submissions per game, we may have a winner per game, then an overall winner of those three
Prizes may depend on which game the winning map is for or perhaps just winner's choice. Please leave feedback on what below may incentivize you to participate.
Bragging rights; the thrill of winning; good exposure to my viewerbase; SC: Remastered key/s, SC2 co-op and/or collectibles DLC; WoW expansion or time card; StarCraft Risk Board Game; attention from your friendly, neighborhood senpai Jayborino

Judging/Voting Criteria
Deltron and I have extensive content on our channels and our experience hopefully instills some level of trust when we say that fun factor really is #1 in terms of possible judging. I play each of these games and do not really prefer one over the other. We understand that, for example, the SC2 Galaxy Editor opens the door for many more possibilities, but can also be much more time consuming, so there are many balancing factors that we're very aware of.
We'll nail the judging criteria down in stone if this becomes official and are looking for feedback to again make this as appealing to creators as possible to participate.

I'd say playable from start to finish. That doesn't mean it has to be perfect, but there can't be anything gamebreaking. Thanks for pointing this out, I will add it to any official rules we put out.

It might be fun for it to be less professional/time intensive as rock the cabinet. So a month would probably be a good deadline. Also would be good as a testing period amount, since you'll learn from it and be able to make adjustments should you want to do a second contest.
As for the prize... Winner should be on the DPS podcast and Jay, Keith, and Brett just have to constantly compliment them on how good looking they are, and intelligent/etc. Haha
Mm, a month is good. I imagine that for someone with a regular job that's approx 80 hours of mapmaking (1-2 hours each work day and 10 hours on weekends). Enough for a finished rush job if you can plan accordingly.
I've had an idea long time ago that didn't go anywhere because it would have been better off single-player and I don't do single player. This might be a good enough excuse to go trough with it and see if the idea had any merit to it.
It's looking like the contest will last 2-3 months now, instead of 1. Since this is the first one we are doing, we want everyone, including procrastinators, to have plenty of time, and give adequate time to any latecomers who happen to not hear about the contest right away.

Having just a month would be more of an exercise in figuring out what you can do in one month and doing just that to the best of your ability. Keeping that scope as small as possible.
From my perspective 2 months means + more polish and iteration. 3 Months means I'll be working on this as a side thing (splitting work between whatever I'm currently set on doing and this single-player thing).
I think if you need 12 months, you may be overthinking it. The goal is fun, and it's only going to be played once. Something that is enjoyable for 10-20 minutes would be sufficient.
So if I read well. Then, the history, dimensions, quality of the map and its weight depend on the mapmakers. It is the most entertaining map that wins, right? I watch your channels on a daily basis. And I know that you can differentiate between maps in an objective way. I'll try to do something for the contest. Great initiative.

I'll participate, just setup some deadline
12 Months from the first post sounds reasonable.

I think he meant 1-2
A full year would be a reasonable time frame to produce a good map project.
