Every time I log in I see "users online 500+". With <50 actually looking at anything.
Never used to see that before the downgrade. Is that the total for all of the curse sites combined or something? Are there that many spam bots waiting on the fringes? Considering worldwide, there are only about 3,000-10,000 arcade games being played at any given time; it is hard to imagine such a large portion of the population is also browsing this site.
Anyone got any good theories? Any mods who can ping locations to see if 90% are from india or china?
I am pretty surprised by this. That is a pretty solid number compared to the number of "active" members. Then again; we do often see people come out of the woodwork with well made projects, previously never heard of.
As a mod, do you have access to the analytics of this site? On the forum for my wc3 project, I used to enjoy looking at all the various user statistics; to understand what brought players to my site.
In my opinion, post count is down, but user count is up (Since the new site). I have no records to back this up though. I was initially curious if something about the new curse site made it easier to access for players; or if it pushed itself up the google charts; or what. If in-fact usage statistics are way up with the new site, then that would mean we are all a bunch of whiners and curse is doing the right thing, no?
I think the search functions of this site were broken so it was not showing in google searches. I have noticed this site appearing more when I type data field names into google.

Something we're also actively working on, since this uses the same framework as all our other sites. We want this to be searchable and index driven.
Also, no, we don't pay bots to be on the site. SC2Mapster is a part of CurseForge, which collectively has millions of users, millions of data driven pages, and millions of monthly views.
With daily updated user generated content, we're quite a large magnet for bot traffic from the big search engines.
There must still be a decent amount of people wanting to learn SC2 stuff... According to youtube analytics, my AI editor tutorial has 330 views in the last month (though the average view duration is 3:33 and it's a 15 minute video...) It has over 4,000 views since I made it in Sept 2015.
But yea.. idk, do with this additional info what you want :P
Well with tutorials covering multiple concepts some people just want to learn about the part they are interested in. Else the play lists automatically go to the next video so it is counted even if the person changes off it.

you profess stuff that means nothing, worse they mean you are marketing and not communicating... while curse wishes it was google, .. it is not!
saying over and over that you get millions of this and gazilion of that does in no way address any of the pending issues, it just further shows what curse is not doing while being so huge and randy!
fact: mapster has done nothing to address its users (people who generate content freely for curse, against their will at this point, if you must really take things for what they are) needs
curse is not trying to make new people come to mapster, it is merely (and against its wishes too) upholding a no return on investment server,
curse does nothing to promote nor grow this community, it just pretend it is
That is off the topic though; this wasn't intended as a curse-bashing thread. I was simply interested in where all the numbers come from; such a high ratio of guests to members, with so few actually viewing. Explaining that they have millions of viewers does help to explain it. If only .1% of them see "We have starcraft 2 stuff too, wanna look at it?" they will be linked here; and make up a large portion of those numbers.
On my little site, it wasn't uncommon for half of the users to be bots from search engines. And I really wouldn't be against click-farming either. It brings your sites higher up on google searches; gaining popularity and reputation. It was simply curiosity.

Been curious for a while, and am a bit bored ATM.

I estimate about 130 are actual people, 20 are search engines and the rest are people browsing sc2 and stumbling on this site due to a keyword.
Around 14 have always been spam bots.

You've found me out, I was a bot all along! To this day I don't know which images contained a storefront.
