They haven't claimed you can sale models on it or anything...
the real thing I am wondering.. is how many projects, models, Mods, maps is this keeping from being release over the possibility, and not actual confirmed idea of a map market place?
Is this the real reason behind the lack of SC2 Custom models?
I think its pretty small chance of map marketplace holding out the maps/models.
After this time Its impossible to say when it gets released and what kind of stuff will be in it.
I would guess its small minority waiting for the marketplace. With the current information its pretty damn hard to tell if you can make any money from it at all. (blizzard probly takes 50% cut anyway)
I really don't see anyone using the map market place, no one would buy, and no one would sell. It just seems so off for Blizzard to do something like that (if they do do it.) Although you'll probably see the occasional noob/troll market place thing on sale, tricking some players into paying for it. But whatever.
I can see that, Yeah, this thread is not to bash modelers just so everyone knows :P , I was just wandering why... lol
I think another thing that wasnt mentioned is that with Site Operation, we dont really need models. we can just combine units to make AMAZING Creations, better then nearly any modeler would be able to do for this game atm, See the Cube in the custom creature contest :P
Why not? It can bring some professionals into the market, if it's profitable any company could start doing mods for SC2 like for the app store.
Sure the amount of customers is not so wide but it's still a new market!
I still dont understand why so many mapmakers (!) are against the marketplace.
Instead of complaining, why dont you use the time to create an awesome map and make some profit? :)
Personally im totally looking towards the marketplace and im happy that Blizzard decided to do this, I think it will make mapping more attractive for professionals and result and higher quality content for the players.
Since nodoby needs to buy anything i personally dont see any problems with this.
Map market place is an awful idea. When D3 came out there was a shit load of hacking. Theres already an issue with map hacking. Sure blizzard might update the lock system but when we're motivated it won't take more then a month. Plus the competition out there your map would probably not do well. I honestly think this would be the worst thing blizzard could do. Not to mention the fact that this would do all kinds of shit that would be put out there.

I dont see how thats related to the topic in any way.

Valid point. Blizzard would definatly have to work on their map protection to avoid free to play copies of pay-to-play maps, but this is more like a technical issue than a conceptional issue, what means there are most likely solutions for this problem.

So basically what youre saying is that there shouldnt be a marketplace because there would be more competition and maps would have to be better?

That's a big if. I highly doubt it will bring professionals into the market. My point is that if you're waiting to make money then your time could be better spent elsewhere.

I'm not complaining nor do I have any problem with it. I just think it is foolish to hold your breath. If you want to make profit there are far better ways to spend your time.
All I know is this... When It comes out, I'm quitting all blizzard products. I wont troll or anything like that, But I will remove all my projects and quit.
Sorry, I am a loyalist to the original Blizzard not Blizz-Activision So if they decide to, in my opinion, do something that will obliterate and tear apart this community, then I will not support nor will do anything for them.
And lets be honest EVERYTIME money gets involved... people get hurt... I dont want to have to fight with my team about putting a map on the marketplace then fighting over money.

I meant that there was a lot of account hacking because of the Real Money Auction House thing because obviously people wanted money. If you had good stuff they would hack you sell your stuff and profit.

I meant people would put out lots of maps that looked good but were totally bogus and once you payed for it they were awful.
With the competition thing I mean that more or less with all the maps there your not gonna make much money and whatever you do blizzard will probably get a cut of it.
All in all I totally agree with taintedwisp. If this crap comes out I'm done in my opinion it would just be a bad decesion that would only be fuled by trying to make money.
I don't see the market being worth much money tbh.
Maps are going to have to be very cheap to sell, Blizzard are going to take a significant cut, and there simply won't be many buyers. And let's not forget, there will be plenty of free and good alternatives to maps that are non-free that will also help bring down sales.
Last time I heard Blizzard didn't exactly sound like it was on the to-do-list anymore. It sounded more like a nice-to-have feature. If Blizzard is not interested then I am not interested. Part of me is happy.
Oh was I one of those modellers? On that other thread what I was saying was don't release stuff for your project. When my campaign is released the assets will be out there but when you play it it'll be better because these are things you haven't seen yet. Think about it like this, if Blizz gave us the HOTS unit models when they first announced we wouldn't care about them nearly as much as if they kept them for release.
As far as the marketplace goes I like it. There will still be plenty of good maps for free and it will make the pay-to-play map makers work harder because they have to create something so great someone would want to buy it. SCU for instance, it's very clearly a map that is going to make some money due to the fact that it's amazing. Groundbreaking things that no other map can offer.
Oh don't worry I didn't think you were insulting anyone. I was just trying to explain why I think it's better to save most of the crucial assets to a project instead of releasing them.

I noticed in a thread http://www.sc2mapster.com/forums/development/artist-tavern/21378-model-showcase-warcraft-units/?page=3#p60 that 2 modelers are waiting for ? the map marketplace... who else is waiting for this thing that you have little to no information about?,

I found an interesting post in these days about the possible causes of the models lacking and it seems pretty reasonable

I doubt anyone with a sound mind is waiting for this.

Why not? If money is involved blizzard will do it, the only question is... WHEN?!?
Answer: When it's done (tm)

I'm sure Blizzard will do it. What I meant was it's not worthwhile enough for mappers to wait for.
