Okay well rrowland you got me excited too... I saw you mentioned you wanted some variation so I decided to make an abandoned lunar station. Let me know if the style is not fitting; I can always convert it to a desert waste-yard. Also, I decided not to do any environmental hazards because from my own experience making a TF2 map, and from most arenas I've seen, they either don't have environmental hazards or people just hate it and never play it. Personally I like cool environmental stuff... but oh well.
Anyway, this map has been anatomically constructed by me with the assistance of Omega of Switzerland to be symmetrically perfect. JK, but I did make sure everything was exact. If you like it, I don't really care what you change to it etc... obviously maps are bound to change once actually tested with real game situations.
It is flat and all non-reachable areas are pathing-disabled. Triggers removed and lighting is Avernus.
If rrowland is planning to put all these maps into one map and have triggers spawn you at a random arena every round then he needs you guys doing one tileset. I may be mistaken but I assume that is the reason why he requested one tileset in the first place.
Yes, the reason I need them to all be one tile set is because they will all be on the same map. If you don't make the map on Avernus I can't use your arena.

Looks great, man. I only have one concern: The area behind the starting zones (The raised platforms are the starting zones, right?) look like they could be abused due to their small pathways. Other than that it looks awesome.
cant you simply add 2 additional cliff types and textures in the data editor if you really like a particular map in the data editor under terrain texture sets...
I have to admit... avernus is a weird tile set to use for this theme... the space platform ties aren't working for me... Tyrador or Marsara textures would work way better with textures like rubble.... I was originally going to submit ruined city theme... but that won't work with avernus... I'll think of something.... it looks like your map is going to be full of abandoned space stations without that much diversity...
You can do a lot with the Avernus tileset, it doesn't have to be space stations, it can be industrial complexes and stuff as well.
My arena is a thermal energy well(i.e a lava map).
Only started working on this yesterday, so still need to do some more before I upload the map, but this is what I've got so far. Still need to add more doodads, some work with textures, as well as lighting...
Also, since I didn't see any answer to my previous question, if using Environmental Hazards (like the Laser / Flame Trap below), how would you want them created, through triggers, data editor, or should I just leave that for you guys to do?
Ok, here are some pics of my map.
Note the tilted symmetry.
Now, as you'll see in one of the pics below, this arena does not contain automatic hazards, but a triggered one.
Stepping onto a plate in the middle arena will raise the lava level after 3 seconds, blocking the subway entrances(which function like teleporters), another 3 seconds will raise it to engulf the low ground, but the middle and high ground are unaffected. Leave the plate and it will go down one level every 3 seconds.
Oh, and the zealots used here are normal size, but I did use double sized ones to check playability. My earlier trouble with terrain objects and dependencies forced me to reset all unit data.
Since these are editor shots you can't see the weather effects, but they're really nice.
I like the lava concept. Don't you think it would make more sense to have the middle of the map, where the plate is located, be at the lowest level so it's dangerous to trigger the plate? I think with it being a safe ground there won't be much incentive to spread out or really leave the middle of the map. And stepping on the plate and getting stunned for 5 seconds and eaten by their own lava trigger should always be in a player's mind.
I seem to be very late getting started. I'll get straight on it! :D I've always wanted to do this kinda thing! I'll see If I can get it done by either today or tommarrow! :D
Also...I need some help with finding terran decals. I type in decals and get only 1 terran decal that works, but it's only for cliff...I need help... :(
I have a copy of my map ready. Well, not ready ready. I mean that I have my terrain done. I still have much more to do. Here's some screenshots.
The first 2 are the two spawning bases. The second 2 are the other 2 corners of the arena. The 5th screenshot is simply the area you would take to get to the opposite base fastest (Otherwise known as the "Center"). The 6th screenshot is an overview. Oh and I have another screenshot with a unit size campared to ramp size to show you how big units are compared to the map.

Ah, that makes sense. There goes my entry then :P

If you swap the textures in your map to Avernus (Map->Map Textures...) you can go back through and re-texture it, keeping the terrain shape.

Awe but avernus is so ugly :(
I was hoping you'd be doing a multi-map game since we'll be getting that soon on bnet... All avernus might just be too ugly lol.
Managed to change the tile set for my entry without any problems and have updated my post on page 2 (post no. 33) with the new images.
Edit: Hrm, ImageShack seems to have an embedded slideshow creator. So I've decided to put the album in here, enjoy!

Hi there. I have little experience in disinig "PvP" maps so i dont know if this makes a good arena map, but here it goes. Hope you like it.

Awesome. My favorite arena so far. I also like that players spawn in the same side.

How are people creating the zoning areas such as the rounded orange rectangles? Thanks.
The white rounded edges are "Decal" Doodads.

Well you can add cliff types, but it seems that textures have to be replaced.
