If you played WC3, you'll know about the site epicwar.com.
It was a no-holds-barred map dump. You could upload any map on there, it doesn't matter whether it was an high-quality complete map... or a total joke where someone basically opened up war3editor, clicked new, clicked OK, saved what appeared and uploaded it to epicwar. It was purely a map dump, no forum or anything else existed with it, and comments were soon disabled due to traffic...
This website differed to other map-making websites where they checked the quality of a map first - it had to pass the most basic of things before it could be truly approved.
Unfortunately, the maps section is reminding me so much of epicwar, now don't get me wrong, some of the maps appearing are hilarious in their own way but really shouldn't be here, lol.
It's vladsmap, made by Vlad the Impaler. Goals of the map? No one can know for sure, but let's look at the description.
"ok look you just live ok so be sure to make a camp."
Chillout vlad, no need to be so defensive!
I think it's supposed to be a map for the cortex RP mod, and it's by CRAZYWARPIG, who's actually pretty crazy from what I can tell.
I opened the map up and found it really funny, so I guess it achieved something at least, it just shouldn't be on a mapping site, maybe damnlol.com? You've just gotta open it up for yourself and see the "wiered grouths".
Also, it does not even function as a cortex RP map...
infect or die.......
It sends shivers down my spine. There's not even a map uploaded... unfortunately.
From the description, all I can tell is "it is just about infecting."
I hope that you take away from this amazing post all that you can to protect yourself from wiered grouths and Vlad the Impaler, and that you leave more enlightened than Tibetan monks.
@Anteep: Go I agree with you, there was a discussion some time ago, started by SnyderGuy if I remember it right, that moderators should delete worthless or abandoned maps from mapster's database. It would be better for players searching for maps, even though we know players are supposed to use Bnet.
Let me shed some light on how this works to see if I can explain the phenomenom.
1) Someone starts off by starting a project page through the 'create project' form.
2) Everyone Sixen has promoted to moderator has an 'upload queue' on the front page. We basically get a button saying "5 maps waiting approval".
3) When we go into the upload queue, we can decide which maps go through the system and get into the actual database.
All of this is really straightforward, but I think the problem with these kind of maps is that a moderator went rather haywire on accepting maps, leading to some of the stuff you posted being on there. We've taken the problem up in the mod forums and should sort it out - I have to agree with you that whoever decided to approve these wasn't completely sobre when he did so.
On the plus side, I really lol'd at some of these descriptions. On the con side it really angers me because when I make an asset I put effort into it, and not just the asset itself but also the description when posting it on this site, the respective "attention whore" topic that I make when posting new assets and everything.
Now, it'd be wrong to callout any names and we will probably not even try to find out who was it, but yes, to clear the question, a moderator is to be blamed for this :P No one else can accept maps other than us.
And it's a good thing you wrote this, we're adressing how to proceed with such maps and actually creating some basic guidelines for people to post new assets, which I assumed they existed or that it was common sense that you want your map to look good! really! Not a line long effortless-vague description.
Either way, yeah, mapster's about quality and being THE Starcraft 2 Mapping site, so we'll check on this.
I felt possessed to write this.

@Mozared: Go
Interesting, yeah I like the idea of a moderator saying "fuck it" one day and allowing these really weird maps on here
"i HAVE not created a map before so i hope this map will be good. anyway it is just about infecting."
I lol'd @ that...

What? Why not? I demand public stoning goddammit!
@xcorbo: Go @Mozared: Go
Okay fine,
We've found out via IP tracking who it was...
IT WAS MOZARED
That's the whole point - it can't be me since I'm too lazy to accept projects at all :D
Eitherway, we're 'discussing' it in the mod forums, rest asured we'll work something interesting out for you soon enough.
