Szei, pretty much everyone in this thread understands that there is subjectivity in choosing contest winners. However, subjectivity only goes so far and in the case of this contest the winners clearly go outside the acceptable range of subjectivity that most people tolerate (like zergling round up and photon defence? really?). If you think that people would be complaining no matter which winners were chosen because they didn't win then you are seriously mistaken and clearly do not understand the points that people are trying to convey in this thread. Most people just wanted deserving maps to win.
I was pretty disappointed with the contest. Not because I'm bitter about it (I am, but that's besides the point!), but all the winners were minigames. Why were we told that it was a "custom map contest" when they were only out to select the best "custom map minigames"?
If I knew they only wanted minigames, I wouldn't have wasted my time with such a huge and elaborate map. I'd have gone straight for the money shot. I dare say I could've made any of the contest winner maps in a few hours at most. I'm not bragging, I'm sure most people could. I'm not slagging the maps off, I'm just saying they were pretty basic minigames, and that if I knew that's what Blizzard wanted, then yeah. I'd have liked to have known beforehand.
I was actually complaining to a friend of mine for weeks before the contest deadline even set in, because I knew they were going to want minigames. Serves me right for not listening to myself, I guess.
