i was wondering .. how much is too much.. in regards to sc2mapsters' Maps site gameplay ..?
tldr: if i upload all my melee maps up on "Maps" at once (13+) .. how is that perceived by my fellow uploader..?
i mean .. i asked if anyone would get numbers once or twice already.. and never got a response out of anyone (standard in any niche website) .. things like page consultation numbers ... ring a bell to anyone ... (curse smallprint anyone?)
the site mechanics are well established ; but where and who clicks on our pretty lil pages is not only non accessible .. while it remains quite ez for curse to make it accessible .. but morever not even discussed or lobbied for...
what gives you attention hoes .. lost your saliva dripping teeth...????
To answer your melee map question, I believe you can make a page for your melee maps in the map section and put 13 files on that single page, instead of flooding the front with 13 of your maps, it would just look disorganized, and may be a bit annoying to others.
Also your post started off interesting and odd, and then I sort of lost you at the end... so I answered the only question that I fully understood lol
I would suggest uploading your top 3 best maps to give people a chance to see if they like your mapping style. Otherwise they could end up picking your worst map, and figure the rest of yours aren't worth looking at. After they try your best maps and thirst for more, you can release the additional maps later (like maybe 5 more in a month, and the last five a month after that. Or maybe one every week after the top 3.)
And don't be lazy, describe whats in each map, maybe with some personal commentary as to what you were aiming for in each map or what you liked/disliked about it, so that people know what to expect and which map they may like/dislike. Never "just" upload something without adding a little context.
i was trying (and failed) to make you sc2mapsters discuss the present state of affairs on said website we inhabit (and therefore are = we are mapster and we let curse dictate our colors on the walls.. with no quid quo pro)
i am happy i joined and have uploaded regularly for more than 3 years.. i was frustrated with internet tl or curse/mapster on these issues (not displaying viewpage counts or other related s hite .. with general sites' users apathy about the site themselves)
so .. as a seasoned activist .. i am laying down a simple (and i think pertinent) question:
what if i clog unintentionally the "Maps" thread .. consequently Curses "new maps display" and other ..?
.. would it not be making soon enough a s hit storm big enough to make matters untenable for curse .. and (for starters) allow mods access to "o so many shit i'm not even going to start a list" that the users would then greatly benefit from .. as they (i) should .; a quid pro quo i would deem "fair"
the front page update alone is proof of indigence
.. but i guess that as always .. i am in a strange minority.. asking s hit or worse "demanding it"
sigh*
ps: had to add a picture (i oogled "fuck my life" and this is what i found :D )
I think the best way to "raise a shitstorm" is to create a better website. Make no one else want to use the current site because yours is so much better. That's the true sticking it to someone, and the much more admirable one.
Part of the issue is the ancient chicken or egg problem.
Right now, for better or worse, SC2 mapping is seen as a failure/waste of time/useless, etc. So people don't want to put any effort into it and supporting it beyond the bare minimum. This leads to the network effect of "No one is here, so I won't be here" -> spiral downward. Now, given that, very few people who are mappers also have the chops/time/money to run a website complete with wiki, file hosting, forums, and assigning mods, etc. It is challenging at best.
For whatever reason, the pace of software development leads to a fairly short attention span. Software development as a whole is an immature discipline and game developers are some of the worst. Now, that is changing but people are slow to change as well, and also, as the saying goes: Good Fast Cheap, choose 2. Right now, people are trying to have all 3, and consequently get none of the above (see the average game put out today, they suck). Blizzard has always been on the Good/Cheap side, at the expense of speed. Sadly people want them to move faster, but want the same quality and are unwilling to pay for it (No, 60 USD for a game is NOT even remotely expensive for a game).
As for changing this site, unless someone is willing to build a better one, we are stuck with what we have. I do find it surprising none of the mods have power to change certain things. Assuming we have the power to create new pages and what not, but not change templates, we could devise pages that are more suitable for what we need and use clever hacks/tricks in javascript to work around some of the issues of the site.
case in point (since it seems that i am not understood really .. ever) :
i would like to advertise a mapmaker "tournament" on mapster.. with a paid winner and hopefully lot of emulation/work done/fun all around..
consequently, i would like/hope to get players and mapmakers approval/support
(players define and test the map being made by however many competing mapmakers who want to "compete")
and therefore, i would require mods' help but further than that .. require that sc2mapster members strike hard their bracelets to shazam out of their lurker dens...
