A way to share popularity. I congratulate devs who make maps/games that a very large number of people would play frequently and enjoy but can that be spread to new and possibly very interesting maps added to the arcade? Perhaps in these popular/top-played maps it should request the dev to recommend another arcade game(s) they like and include that in the map description or a message when the game ends. It's kinda like youtube how the top channels support eachother by guest appearances in some of their videos (at least for game related videos).
Been thinking about this. Recently put in a mod file into all my arcade maps that modifies the loading screen. Did this to allow the loading screen to be modified for all maps quickly and easily. Main point behind it was to advertise my stuff.
Since my stuff is pretty popular, at least on EU, I thought I could return some of the favor that sc2mapster has given me over the years by offering a "weekly promoted map" that would appear on all my loading screens.
To all of you that go to Blizzcon, would you be so kind and make a request for me regarding the Arcade?
One small thing I would really love to see regarding the Arcade interface, maybe more than anything else atm, would be a way to view how many times your map has been played. So whenever someone plays that map, the counter goes up. Maybe even make it only visible to the creator of the map.
This shouldnt have any effect on any statistics or something, but rather just be a nice thing for the creator of the map to know that his map does get played. Often times I dont know if my maps are played, only to find out through other people that yes, people do play my maps regularly. This would be a simple and effective way to make the map statistics more transparent and more importantely, an effective way to give map creators more feedback on how their map performs outside of popularity rank and reviews.
I think this could also really help map makers that get easily demotivated because of things like popularity - atleast they would see that their map does get played from time to time and their work is not for "nothing".
As for me, I would just like to know how often other people play my maps without me knowing.
Please? Would be awesome if someone could request that.
@Crainy: Go I'd like to know that too. Popularity doesn't say much. Does it get played by 10 people a week or a 100? I don't know, I only know it is played more than X and less than Y. Do I know if the guys that give me some feedback and report bugs are 1% or 50% of the player base? No, I don't, so my decisions for updates may go well or miss the point entirely.
Collecting and displaying way more data related to maps would be awesome for the devs...
If Blizz is going to implment such features, it would improve the Arcarde-Section massively (i 100% agree with SoulFilcher).
It should work like a 'Google-Analytics' for Map-Makers.

I think that would be abit too much to ask. Just a playcounter would do it for me.
Then the ratingcounter should be enough for you, because you can extrapolate.
I really want to know hoch much ppl played my map in the time since the last update, and if the update results in in- or decreasing plays per day.
This combined with a history would become a very handy tool for some mappers.
Most ppl are not rating (i think 49 out of 50 never rate maps no matter how often they play it) the maps they play.
Also how steep your maps learning-curve is (how long/how much trys do people need to win?) or how addictive over time your map is (ppl play it just a few times? Or in the beginning MUCH times then slowly (or fast?) decreasing? And if your map has a core-community of players that play your map regulary and often?).
All this infomations can, if well interpreted and analyzed, lead to a very good quality of your map and, in consequence, lead to a way better gaming-experience for every starcraft-fan.
SC2 is not a game with a 100-ppl community, its a big thing, and as a map developer i feel a little bit left out...
My bottom of the barrel request is that Blizz just put a selection in the drop down box for searching through the arcade.
I want to put my campaign up there one day and I want others from Mapster to as well!!
Subjection and Crimson Moon are the only ones up on the Arcade, such a shame that there is only two!
My most sacred of wishes is they start featuring a campaign every couple of months. It would generate interest and more people might start making their own. Have to be some sort of rubric...but I'm not holding my breath.
Please discuss your plans for the marketplace. It's been half a decade since it was announced. I've personally made a lot of sacrifices to get good with the editor in the meantime and hold on this long. Last I heard from Browder in an interview was that it was likely going to be coming at about the time of LotV's release. Not knowing any details or having anything set in stone makes it hard to create a dedicated team, let alone keeping them motivated. Not having anything solid to show family makes it even harder for them to support us as well.
I know I'm not alone in this as I've heard stories from others too. Some are in embarassing situations where their families think they are fools for holding on, others are professionals forced to leave the community because they have investors who need to see a return on their investments.
I think Blizzard's policy of "It's done when it's done" and keeping quiet in general is a great strategy when it deals with releasing games, but not with something like the marketplace that, instead of providing entertainment value, we're talking about people's career choices and quality of life being affected.
Stuff I've worked on: Carbot's StarCrafts Mod (2014-present) StarCraft 2 Hotkey Trainer (2010) | Mineralz Evolution (2011+) | Dungeon Legacy (2013+) | Phoenix TLMC 4 Entry (2014) Assisted: City of Tempest (2012) | BarCraft (2013) | Poker Defense (2014) and a few more.
This is a good question actually. I know it'll never happen, but at this point I'd be happier with a "we've just scrapped the Map Marketplace idea" than more silence on it.
Be sure to check out the extension mod: Hots Custom Map support on NA and EU, Despite the name it greatly expands the roster of options for the default 3 races and is updated all the way to NCO.
I don't know if a marketplace at Starcraft's current state would work.
If they on the other hand merge the Arcade with Heroes and perhaps a Warcraft game, thus supplying us with a playerbase of WoW fans, it could possibly work.
AHAHAHAH, You people STILL think that the map marketplace is coming... LOL, so damn funny. IF it ever comes it will be with the next RTS game, not an expansion. So warcraft 4. or Perhaps Starcraft 3, or some other new franchise, Chances are the LORE from TITAN still exist so I would expect them to still do something with that, Perhaps they will never make a warcraft 4 but instead a Titan MMO to take it's place.
Though my personal speculation is that Blizzard sold the TITAN assets to Bungie to make Destiny and quietly just cancelled it way before they announced it's cancellation.
So no vindicator... a map marketplace is not coming with this editor... ever. I told you that back before HoTS came out. When they put the open games list up the map marketplace was sunk lol.

Like this;

Where "Latest Map" is replaced by "Promoted Map" and the icon changed to whatever icon the promoted arcade map uses.
Just not sure if I'd appear arrogant by doing something like this. Should probably try it out and see if there's any takers.
it is arrogant :D
it is a good idea, do it you famously not famous famous mapmaker
any good idea is still good .. even if you have to appear "arrogant" .. you are selfless, you will live through it ;)

Seriously, I would really love that playcounter.
Playcounter idea sounds awesome, +1 to that. Viewcounter could come in handy too, kind of like how many sites have Visits and Downloads for files.
Nah stop this fanboizm ppl.

God, someone unbanned him and his first post is immediately ignorant, derogatory and mostly unconstructive. Good job, whoever that was.
