Its also more fun to be making the map than completing it. Mappers only complete maps for other players; but as no one will ever play your maps (empty lobbies), the incentive for completing maps is very low. You can't even playtest your map in progress because of .. again empty lobbies.
If you ever make it to one of the top pages, it is always a good feeling when people play your map and you get direct feedback, even during matches.
if you are not that lucky it might be a problem. no testing -> no polishing -> less attractive map -> less players -> circle of doom
after a 2 month brake i started polishing again, small nerf here, small buff there and so on. I just now gave the tanks the ability to siege and get direct feedback: "you ruined it" I'm not going to remove it, i'm going to try to balance it, because i had some games and tanks are really really strong if you have enough of them, you cant reach them with low tier ground units any longer.
some people don't like it if you change something, they know well and play often.
this is so true... i remember figuring out, how to properly spawn units, but i had no motivation to copy it 50 times and adjust the values. this isn't fun, it is work
Well, i'm not to sure of Life of a Peasent, but in Life of a Civilian, You pick being in a age group, teen girl/boy, adult male/female, or just as a kid or old person (limited due to lack of Unit's i imagine that kids/old people have no M/F), you pick a Job like a Doctor, Factory worker, football player, stripper and other things, Kids only job was paper route. there were schools (though i'm not sure what they were for), a Collage, where you got your Bachlers and something else i forget (not to sure what they were for, but i suspect gaining more money from the job you did), You could buy and own a shop, Weapons shop (Mercs i suppose), Pets shop (Zerg pets yay :D, course named as real animals), aswell as other things i cant remember. What else do you buy with your money besides Minnions/pets? you can buy a Aparment, were you had your basic liveing needs, or a more Expensive House, which includes a magic fridge which kept you fed. and yes i did mention Needs, Dubbed "Happiness" you need to keep yourself Fed, Hygenic, Sleep, and keep your bladder in check, otherwise you die (not exactly how, you smell so bad you die from your own stench? gained a bladder infection and died? I dono). there was also a Bank to transfer money to friends. there was for some reason, a Gangster hideout inside the back of the Church, where you could hire Stronger Mercs, but you needed to join them, and if you did that, you became a target to the Police (who was a single Player commanding them all), There was just so much to it that i cant even remember all of it. and its hard to believe it was made with Just SC1, and it looked like it was made by the basic StarEditer.
The Map was great, i've never gotten bored of playing it with other people. I Can only imagine the posibilities that could be instored for its idea if someone was to Make a "Sims like" Map like it in SC2.
Saddly the team's site looks heavly outdated and has nothing on it about Sc2, so i assume its dead and i cant expect anything from them anymore i guess =/
Them being Tech Breed, and the leader |)arktoss
EDIT: also ehh... sorry for bringing this topic back Up? just thought it was a good place to post incase someone knew of the map and point me in the right direction if someone made a Sims Like Map instead of making a new topic all together.
I have been working with Shinigami Note map. It is map where random player becomes Kira and can wander in the city, avoiding the L's forces. However map's concept does not work if Kira has no damn clue what to do (Refuses to read and/or some other reason(s)) . Going enough near of other "civilians" cause their real name to be revealed over them. Then you can just "-note <insertthatnamehere>" (temporal mechanic, I probably add actual dialog for that player so it does not reveal others who he is) and unit dies (instantly or in 48 seconds, matter of balancing).
ye ;p what sand says seems true hard to test. if i was using wc3 i would load it up and host local area network game and since me and friends are using hamachi(vpn) we can just host and play together simply. where with sc2 have to upload and isnt there limit to how much you can upload >.< seems so tedious

Longer time spent on a project, the more your interest dies.
