Superior intelligence is the same as memorization. Most people with low intelligence can't memorize every build and what counters what and what is good against what and why they should attack at a certain time and all these other information you can read in guides. Along with that the pros tend to play mind games sometimes, say they are building a nexus and it gets scouted but they planned for it to get scouted. They then cancel it once the scout is gone and build gateways in it's place. This leads the enemy to attack prematurely and he built up a mass army while he went off towards a base that wasn't there. It's like D-day when they built a fake base and everyone except one guy thought the attack was coming from there.

LOL
Sorry, but it's not. Intelligence is much more than just memorization. If you don't understand that there is a significant difference i recommend you to read about memorization and after that read about intelligence.
Did you read the rest of my post? So adapting to a new situation is memorization? I don't think so. But when it is not memorization then it's no intelligence? . . .
I can feel what OP's saying.
I get that feeling too, Starcraft is a fast paced game that punish any mistakes or lacks of reaction, and now it is even punishing in the lowest ranks. You don't build units because you like them, and want them in your army. Sometimes I wish the games were longer, and with a easier start so you can build whatever you want : as of now you build special compositions because you need to, and it's the way to win.
In that sense, you should probably play another game. I used to play Dawn of War2, where you got to choose the leader of your army, your troops etc. It's less competitive and funnier.
It's the same with any game. WoW was amazing for the first month or two but after that it becomes a science.
When you're in the moment (such as with the sc2 beta) you don't realize how good it is until it's gone (or the magic is gone).
Well, SC2 is only a science now because people like the pros spent over a year now trying different things out until they know exactly what to do for each scenario (adaptability).
This discussion also brings up the point of how FPS's are popular in north america but not as much in Asia (Korea).
i never started season 2.. thank mapster for jade's tron ;^)
more to the point, rts'es are all awesome (rather they ALL have the potential to be), but the current maps on melee ladder suck ass because they are photocopies of one another, there is no palette to show "the infinite" (and certainly never "..beyond").. so just wait for LoV (maybe before [hope springs eternal] ), when the community will "own" it, ..then it will be settled for good:
star2: a shitty game by actwithnovision or yet another awesome game by blizz (i figure their previous track record needs not be restated)
in any case (and off topic, sort of): galaxy = ty blizz (me => :) )
