What I mean is, if I publish a map with HotS dependency, will WoL or Free players be able to join in without having to be in a party?

Cool. This may be a redundant question, but that means I don't lose anything with using the HotS dependency?
Nope not at all. Arcade maps with any dependency are fully open to everyone.
Cool. Is there a list of benefits of moving your game to a HotS dependency? I know there are obvious ones, but none of them really convince me.
only assets

What about that dead body physics of Marines?
i don't know if there is a new marine model with new features but the whole editor is absolutly the same in hots and wol, you just don't have access to the hots assets.
the game physics (marine bodies flying across the screen) are not HotS exclusive.
The only difference is models, textures, and sounds. If you don't need or want that stuff then stick with WoL.
There are some small features like water ripples when units enter water from hots as well but I guess that's just models.
