Because Kildare has been working on a single map for awhile. I am not bashing the game itself. I am just saying don't sit there and call out other maps for being old (Which I agree with) while supporting the map you were very quick to respond with saying you are voting for without trying the other top 10.
Call me crazy but I see no major difference between Fleet Assault and Mission Frontier.
Yeah, this is totally irrelevant. Even if Fleet Assault and Mission Frontier were the same (they're not, go play them)...
I was disagreeing with this statement;
"They need some constants like the same amount of time given to each dev and the final state of all maps on the same day."
By pointing out that the time spent is already uneven, so it doesn't really matter.
The constant was the start of the competition to the deadline which was May 31st 11:59pm.
Seems fine right? Ok, until I pointed out that Mission Frontier was updated after that date (Which may have been a mistake on my part due to time zones).
Who was the first person to come to the defense of abolishing the no updates rule after May 31st rule? What do you know, it was the person who pledged his vote for that very map before the top 10 were announced.
I have no problem with you or anyone voting for the map they want to win but please cut the BS.
Such a conspiracy. I've been caught. My attempts at subterfuge have been unmasked.
But no, I gave my reasons for wanting the "no update" rule removed 12 posts ago.
I'm not affiliated with Mission Frontier. I don't care if Mission Frontier wins or gets disqualified. I've just had the most fun with Mission Frontier, so that is the map I'll vote for. If it gets disqualified, I'll vote for something else.
There's no shady lobbying going on. You're reading too much into it.
How can you even question that rule? It's impossible for Blizzard to judge 79 ever-changing entries.
Exactly this.
Also the reason why Blizzard allows old maps to participate is mainly because its simply impossible to prove how old a map is and whatnot. What if there is a map that has been worked on since years, but that comes out just after the contest started? That would be just as unfair as submitting a map which already exists on the market for years.
It is simply not possible to make a contest and have rules that sharp since it would be impossible to control.
I think in the end there won't be any problem with the submissions that have been updated after the deadline. Just that the version of the map that Blizzard will be reviewing and the one that they will be allowing people to vote for will be the outdated one that was originally submitted to the contest. Most likely they will be reuploading all the maps together as a side mod under a new "Rock the Cabinet" category, so people can play and vote the version of the map that was submitted to the contest. So I don't think they will be disqualifying your map because you uploaded a new version to the bnet, even if the rules stated not to do so.
You provided a specific link to your game when you submitted your map (IE starcraft://map/1/214245). If THAT particular map is updated after May 31 at 11:59 PM PST you are disqualified, simple as that. Blizzard said you could make a separate (distinctly named) version of your map and update that if you wanted during the contest.
All of these requirements must be met, and your entry submitted in full, by 11:59 p.m. PDT on Saturday May 31, 2014.
Additionally, we’ve gotten some questions about changing or updating games after the cutoff date for the contest. Like any contest, once the deadline has passed, your submission is considered final and must not be altered. We understand that you’ll want to continue to improve your game, but we ask that you hold off further updates until the contest ends, or until you are no longer a contender. One option is to upload a second version of your game that you can continue to work on, making sure to distinguish it from the version you entered.
However, please, feel free to test how strict they are going to be with the rules, I won't stop you :P
I'm sure Blizzard isn't going to disqualify a map for having an update a few hours after the submission deadline, especially not now after the entry roster's released. They have nothing to gain from doing so, while on the other hand if they did, they would potentially have problems with dissatisfied players who are fans of that game. Why cause trouble for yourself over nothing?
I don't think we even know for sure if any maps actually did update past the deadline, but why should the rules not apply to everyone equally? I found a bad bug in my last sanity check but didn't have a chance to fix it before the submission deadline. I had a new build with a fix ready to go by 1 AM on June 1st but did NOT upload it because Blizzard very clearly said that would be grounds for disqualification.
Should following the rules be a competitive disadvantage?

He submitted an old map. How does that support your accusation that Fleet Assault = Mission Frontier?

And I don't even like popcorn.
How much can you really do in 2 weeks (or however long judging is going to last)?
Either way, I've stated my peace. I think the "no update" rule should be revised or even removed. People disagree, and I can see why.

Did we find out if these maps were actually updated after the deadline, or was it just a time zone timestamp issue?
Some were definetly, Blizz even made a thread here warning people not to. But we'll see what they do.
