I'm having something of a debate with a friend and hoping to prove him wrong. He claims that few people would want to spend the time making a "good" map or set of maps in the "single player/campaign" style because those kind of maps are consumed once and never played again.
I know they're out there and I'd very much like to prove him wrong, but my direct experience with such maps is pretty minimal.
Can any of you name and possibly link to some examples so I can go "look, see? there's lots of awesome stuff here that people have put a ton of time into and is really fun". I'd like to gather a number of examples to help support my point if possible :)
I like to play good campaigns multiple times. There, proved him wrong.
The campaigns listed by the others are pretty much all I know of as well, the SC1 remake is very well-made, I enjoyed it, even though I played the SC1 campaign way too often already. Some of the other campaings were very good as well.
However, it is correct, that a custom campaign is very much effort, and will be not played by that many people, so not that many people care about making them.
Well, depends on how well done it is on the "consumed once and never played again". Like, have you played "The Chosen Ones" Campaign for Warcraft 3? The Editor for Warcraft 3 is way less versatile than Starcraft 2's, yet that Campaign is very replayable, with it's "give up" feature, which is actually kinda essential for the Elite and Epic bosses, even for some of the easier difficulties.
But your friend is right, very few people make campaigns/scenarios in the style of SC2 campaign because they take a lot of time and don't have much replayability when compared to all those TDs and Dota clones.
Tho I would be cool to make campaigns or unique stories for characters of Dota games to develop the story a bit more and why one side would be fighting another and how these heroes came to be fighting to the death. It would give the game a bit more depth in my opinion :) .
I'm making campaign myself and I'm following campaign projects here on sc2mapster and there are less than 20 projects that I can call "campaigns" and most of these projects have only 1-3 missions. Most are updated like year ago last time.
Interesitng catch Terho, I'm going to check that one out. Exaken's link has most of the ones I'd point out... Special mention for Debe's "Brood" campaign, though - that one is blizzlike in quality.

There ya go.
@Taintedwisp: Go A remake of the SC1 isn't really a custom campaign.

OH, i thought you ment User made campaigns. but you mean campaigns that are supposed to continue on SC2. campaign.

Cool thanks :)
Any other recommendations? It sounds like I really should take some time to try the SC1 remakes.

That is a golden idea. I'm sure a LOT of the famous DOTA fans would play these maps through.

I want to recommend this campaign: http://www.sc2mapster.com/maps/scattered-campaign/ It deserves some attention.
