True.... The story takes place in north america, after some great war that destroyed all of it, and it has to lose some land, like florida and some outside areas, because of the polar ice-caps that melted, (they talk bout this at the beginning)
It's difficult to take pride in work that attempts to capitalize on whatever happens to be trending, leveraging the identity of other material for one's own gain. Whether it's some console game pushed through the bowels of a publisher to coincide with a movie's opening week, or a terribad DBZ map, IP wanking isn't good for anyone, neither the developers, nor the players.
How do you make a meme out of it, besides eating contests which isnt that funny. I always imagined something like a fat guy walks up to a fridge and its empty and it says "LET THE GAMES BEGIN"
The relationship to the movie might, but, if done correctly, theres alot to work with from the books to create an easily first 3 pages map (as i said if done correctly)

Firstly, I have a lot respect for you as a mapmaker.
Secondly, as mentioned above, Tron + Photon Cycles.
Thirdly, you recently joined the World of Starcraft project, which is the biggest IP masturbation I've ever witnessed, to the point where the name was even forcibly changed by the IP owners.
The first Tron movie came out 1982. It has been a relatively popular game since. Photon Cycles may be based on Tron (the game), but it doesnt reference Tron (the movie) (other than to explain the gameplay) and doesnt dismember Tron lore (if there even is such a thing).
A Hunger Games based map would probably be story based, since thats the only thing such a map could conceivably innovate on (Hunger Games doesnt bring new gameplay to the table, just a new world for existing gameplay). I would not be excited to see such a map being made (particularly because itd probably be based off the movie, and not the books).
If you had brought this up months ago, i probably wouldnt have had much of a problem with it, but since the movie recently launched, this just reeks of a bad "cash-in" to me. A fad thatll die out once the movie trilogy is completed and about 2 years in the past.
Yes, Photon Cycles followed Tron Legacy. But my central argument is that Photon Cycles copies gameplay, not content. While a Hunger Games based map would copy content, not gameplay.
I can call you stupid as well. But that doesnt further an argument, it just derails it. So either tell me where my argument falls down or shut the hell up. This is just noise injected into a discussion.
Edit: I read the announcement post of Photon Cycles again, theres one mention of Tron, and that one is part of the name of another map with similar gameplay.
To be honest, I've never seen Tron or the sequel/remake (cue the incredulity). I am aware the lightbikes concept originates from Tron, of course, by way of various television series making references to it, but having not seen the movies, I cannot cite it directly as an inspiration. The direct predecessor of Photon Cycles was a map named TronCraft: Rebirth, which features large brick "lines" through which players could navigate if their right-clicking prowess was great enough. I merely expanded on those basic gameplay mechanics and improved the control scheme by replacing the wasteful right-click based movement with camera yaw steering. Photon Cycles was just an incremental improvement on a set of gameplay mechanics I found stimulating.
That said, even if it were directly inspired by Tron, if I do not refer to the intellectual content of the film(s) by the appropriation of its settings, characters, assets, and such discrete identities, then it is not intellectual property wanking, just typical inspiration. I don't think anyone would attempt to argue that originality or creativity or whatever is a product of ex nihilo genesis; I expect most people would concede the creation of new ideas is process of blending inspirations, whereby one turns a bunch of old shit into new shit. Photon Cycles isn't old shit relabled, it's familiar new shit, inspired by a basic set of mechanics and given shape by my deliberate design choices (not all of which were good ideas).
With regards to "World of Starcraft", it's a good thing the name was changed, because that was some obscene ip wanking. Thankfully, the gameplay and mechanics in its recent iterations are not like World of Warcraft, so I don't find myself in a conflict of interests between lampooning the misappropriation of intellectual property and supporting a project of which I am a part.

Youre great. Just keep going. Maybe some day youll actually address the point i was making (that copying gameplay and copying lore are two very different things and that Photon Cycles doesnt copy lore, since Photon Cycles doesnt need and have any).
We can of course quibble about my usage of "reference", and id concede that its the wrong word to use. Photon Cycles does reference the visuals of Tron, in that its a vehicle resembling a bicycle spawning an impenetrable wall behind it. But this is very basic and is a good working explanation for the gameplay.
Your snide remark about admitting when one is wrong works both ways, remember that.

I did address your point. You're just changing your assertion every post to compensate.
First it was "Photon Cycles doesn't reference Tron", which it clearly does.
Then it turned into "Photon Cycles copies gameplay, not content.", .
Now it's "that copying gameplay and copying lore are two very different things and that Photon Cycles doesnt copy lore, since Photon Cycles doesnt need and have any", which makes an unfalsifiable claim out of lack of information.
I hope you don't think I'm taking this too seriously. I just get kicks out of watching morons defend their bullshit.

Seems quite easy to make, someone has "The Hunger Games" and i have "Hunger Games" tho

Methinks not so?
Hate to sound criticial, but to me, it seems like a concept that would die out in about one week :(

...
Hey Jademus didn't you push out photon cycles right around the time tron legacy came out? ...\, .../, ...\,
LET THE GAMES BEGIN!
(Seriously, why is NO ONE making this joke about that movie? It's too obvious to not be popular. There's not even a meme about it or anything!)

Disturbing...

but as i said it wouldnt be on the books itd be on the topic
@SnyderGuy: Go never recall the icecaps melting...

Edit: Added bolded parts for clarification.
Tron Legacy came out a few months before Photon Cycles.
Sometimes I wonder how people can type things like this and not cringe at their own stupidity.
Damn, pretty generous with the length of that IP there, must be a trilogy at least.

A free for all hero battle map? naw

Sure.
This is a lightbike. It is unique to Tron.
This is the photon cycles entry. It references lightbikes.
I think humanity's most hilarious feature is never admitting when one is wrong, even when 15 seconds of research proves otherwise.
Footnote: This isn't a stab at photon cycles. I honestly couldn't care less what it's based on.
