So I logged into the battle net website today cause I wanted to take a look at the price of Diablo III ($85 USD for Australians) ... oh wait whats that? If my account said I lived in America I could buy it for $60 USD ... where the fuck is that extra $25 coming from? No ... I will not preorder Diablo III ... fuck that shit ... digital download ... does it cost $25 more to send it to Australia? ... is the SEA copy worth an extra $25 ... what a load of fucken shit.
But anyways, the EULA had been updated and I didn't realise I had to scroll down ... when I did my finger slipped landed on this section, true story bro ... I had never noticed this particular entry before, the rest I knew about but perhaps as I said ... just never noticed it before ...
it costs 15$ more because of something in the past that raised the price for games in Australia, which went away but the stores never lowered the prices. For got the reason, might of been an import tax.
yes that has all ways been there, You mean u never read the terms of agreement, how dare you!
It was called the Australian dollar being at 50c to 1 USD ... but now for the last year the Australian dollar has been above parity (ie the AU dollar is worth MORE than the USD), no one has lowered their prices because they are making more profit. Granted, we have to pay GST which is 10%, so seeing that I can actually buy it today for 55$ US (at the USA prices) + 10% = roughly $60 USD (+- $1-2).
Oh, and its $25 difference ... my bad ... which is like an extra 40%.
I read the agreements, I always read ToS but as I said, I just don't remember that particular line being there before.
also its been in the ToS for a while, if not from the start. Its not hard to get approval from blizzard. brokenalliances.com (bunkerwars.net) got one for the bunkerwars tournament
Yeah well a similar thing happened at Sc2's launch ... Sc2 was $100 USD for Australian buyers, whilst being $60 from memory in the USA? All the "game" shops tried to sell it, but you see, something very weird happened ... all the big department stores had thousands of stock of Starcraft II ... they were selling them at $65 (at cost probably or a loss leader to get people into the store) ... so I went to a game shop and they said "they would match the price even though they knew the department stores had none in stock" ... walked out of the game shop past the department store ... see literally hundreds of them sitting on the shelf ... I lawled @ the fucken ripoff of EBgames and the shit they pull.
Unfortunately no one had stock of the limited edition which was sold for $150 US in Australia (99 in US) ... so I never got it ... I only wanted the art book out of it, cause I have so much respect for the blizzard art team, samwise in particular, but maybe one day I will be able to find one ... no doubt the same thing will happen for Diablo III ... I will head down the shops sometime this week to see if I can preorder the limited edition cause once again, I want the art book ... but if they are selling it for $150 again they can kindly go shove it up their asses ...
You guys can not really understand what it is like to live in Australia ... there is no competition - you think there is, and the government says there is, but its bullshit. Everyone "talks" and set prices up high for everything, importers are just as bad. What is the first thing that happens when the government deregulates anything? (Like Power, Real Estate etc) ... everyone puts up their prices ... it was meant to create competition but it never happens.
The real point is why is a digital download (of which I do not need to pay TAX because it is overseas goods under the customs duty limit), $25 more for me because I am in Australia? I tried to change currency, I tried to change regions, no doubt Blizzard is pulling my IP address and locking me into AUD.
Well WTF then? I mean no offense to Aussies when I say this, but maybe it cost more for blizzard to sell the game to Aussies because of harsh Gaming laws? From what Nether-realm had said MK would have costed nearly 80$ to distribute MK over there.
High Import taxes?
There are a various number of reasons
or it could be blizzard just hates Australia lol jk
I am buying a digital file from the USA (blizzard) I do not pay any tax. Even if I bought the hard copy from Blizzard direct and they sent it to me I still would not pay any tax.
Tax has nothing to do with it.
Even if it did, with the currency exchange rate + tax still = the same price as in the USA.
Gaming laws are nothing, stupid christian lobby groups fought it for years, but our government is finally introducing 18+ games ... Diablo III and Sc2 are not 18+ games.
First Christian Lobby groups give all Christians a bad name. Dont hate all Christians because of a few morons.
To be Christian is to believe that the Earth is less than 10,000 years old, that dinosaurs co-existed with humanity, that fossils were placed by the devil and that evolution is a lie.
I'd argue that "Christian" and "moron" are synonymous.
It's a bit gay that we can't pretend to be americans and buy a copy at normal price. It's also gay because russian version will be released at june'7, and I thought I can say I'm american and buy one at may'15... It's also gay because I don't like russian translation and would ilke to have an original language version. But after reading this thread I understand how naive was I.
Have anyone heard anything about using proxy servers to imitate US IP?

There are many sects of Christianity and you are showing yourself to be a moron for thinking that all Christians are alike. The majority of Christians believe in evolution and that the Earth is billions of years old; it's just the crazy and very vocal minority that believes otherwise. Hell, I know some very devout Catholics who teach evolution.

Well, it is €60 in EU as well, even though 1 euro is about 1.3 dollars atm.
Still cheaper than AU.
If you knew the answer why ask
also its been in the ToS for a while, if not from the start. Its not hard to get approval from blizzard. brokenalliances.com (bunkerwars.net) got one for the bunkerwars tournament
I didn't know the answer, I presumed the answer, there is a difference mate :)
And yeah, I was curious about that ... I knew Broken Alliances held a tourney for cash, so I was wondering about that too, thanks for clearing it up.
You'd think that if one of the publishers decided to sell everything at $50 AUD, they would just about double or triple their Australia sales volume.

Just a thought, and no means of talking shit to anyone here, but maybe it could be because it will be a copy that is not region locked?
All Diablo III copies are region free, says so in the FAQ ...
Free for playing, the auction houses will be locked to the region. If this doesn't matter to you, then yes, they are region free.
""SEA copies are automatically linked to NA to have a greater player base and auction house experience""

hmm, I dunno then. I'm Sure there is a legitimate reason, But I don't know it.
