Actually, modding and mapping in StarCraft BroodWar have kept it alive about as much as melee has, particularly in non-korean countries. If you go on the USeast server most of the games hosted are custom maps (west is mostly melee). And people still mod SCBW even now, although less than before. Mapping's still going too.
They are going to randomly generate Maps... THESE are not maps with people in lobby.... atleast I dont think... all this is, Is the fun or not system in list form... I hope I am wrong...but if not... Then I loose all faith in blizzard..
To help players find games more easily in patch 1.5, we intend to include an “open games list.” To be clear, this will not be every open game that is on the service. Instead, the open games list will deliver to you a selection of games from the many hundreds or thousands that are currently open. We are currently working on different ways to determine how the list you’ll see is generated.
There, I cal bullshit, So no it wont be an open lobby... it will be a Fun or Not that is named open lobby....
And if its like FUn or not, it will be nothing but Popular games, Cortex, and Special forces elite Version XX
I, like most others, will be cautiously optimistic about this new development. This isn't necessarily the answer to our prayers, though it certainly has the potential to mark a step in that direction.
My plan is to wait for the patch to come out, then watch how it works. If it seems to produce better results for hosting obscure maps, I'll jump back into mapmaking and also reverse my decision to not purchase HotS.
I suggest the rest of you do likewise. Wait and watch.

I thought so too at first - until it dawned to me that I'm probably gonna buy HotS anyway D:

I knew it!
Blizzard: "OH SHIT! Rodrigo is back! We better hurry up and comment about our new pop. system changes before he starts complaining again!"
The open system is going to be bullshit..
I re-read it..

I just hope it will turn out good.
1st: I'd be able to play more custom maps with friends,
2nd: I guess it'd give me the needed motivation to continue my 2 started projects and ofc. test them better :P
