I finally understand why... When blizzard makes a map, they can put it as the number 1 map. They have no need for players to actually.. play their map... rack up those hours played. Ohh no. they actually have a system in place that goes outside the rules of the popularity system.
This could be the solution to all of our problems though, right? Wait for blizzard to release all of the games that we want to play. I see no problem with that.
Discuss what has been over discussed. Actually, dont. Discuss the impact of "toilet humor" on modern society. It will please me.
I was thinking of a really intelligent, inspired thing to say, but then I realized this was another Battlenet 2.0 discussion. So I have a good solution in the form of a function to solve this issue once and for all!
srand ( time(NULL) );
ranNum = rand() % 10 + 1;
While (SCMappers > 0) {
if(ranNum < 7)
{
cout << "Bnet 2.0 Sucks for these reasons, references to old bnets";
}
elseif(ranNum < 9)
{
cout << "Bnet 2.0 isn't so bad for these reasons";
This is a stupid fucken map that is pissing me off.
Yeah, I have no problem with micro on SEA, but with a one second delay on NA I cannot do shit.
Stuck on the banshee cause I simply have too much of a delay to issue orders, by the time i issue an order to move, ie, 3 2 1 go, it has already lost 30% of its life, even spamming the move key ... yeah ... this is a great map.
Oh, and the pop thing just pisses me off more but did you really expect anything less? Seriously, why is this still even a discussion? We all know that if Blizzard does not do anything by the time HOTS comes everyone is walking ... 95% of people I know IRL that played SC2 when it came out now do not play it simply because of the shit that happens in the custom map section.
PS. Do not even go there and try and say to me I should do it on SEA ... SEA is dead and I want that stupid portrait on NA.
Yeah.. lets discuss map itself, at least that should be a relatively new topic.
That map made me sad. I reminded me that I suck at micro. Though I probably could beat snipers level offline.. I'm still sad. Well, 26/30 isn't that bad, I still qualify as average sc2 player =D.
Also I think it's the only blizzard released custom map without voice-overs.
honestly, my only wish with the popularity system is something that is already planned to be fixed; and that is for active lobbies to be more easily seen. A good map should have a player or two willing to sit and wait for 10 minutes for a game to fill up. If that game is good enough, the people who joined, will want to play again. This will give it more popularity; raise it up the list, it will take less time to fill... ect.
What I really wanted to point out here was the irony. The... hilarious... irony. How can anyone look at the "hours played" for that map, and see "BLIZZARD" rather than an actual popularity rating; and not laugh their ass off? If given the opportunity, I would point in their (whoever was responsible for that idea) face and laugh loud and obnoxiously in a crowded room. That is how hilarious this concept is to me.
The second most hilarious thing about this, is a touch more personal; though I hope quality mappers understand the feeling. Ever play a game, where the creator added cheats to it, for him and his friends; so they could never lose? Or made their favorite race/class/unit/hero extremely strong, so they could use it and never lose? I think the worst kind of mapper or player, is someone who will cheat at a game to beat it (I mean actually cheat, not be amazingly good at using the mechanics of the game to benefit them). This is the equivalent of cheating, IMO. They create a system that we all must use; no one can bend the rules, we all must submit and play their popularity game. But wait, they create something and want everyone to see it. Clearly, if it was advertised well, made well, and the type of game all players would like to play, it should soar to the top of the popularity list in no time. That is what they tell us mappers, right? Just... hilarious.
So, for those of your reading the title, and thinking "Not another @popularity system post" this isn't geared at the popularity system, so much as it is at blizzard. I hope some people out there, at least after reading the above, will see how hilarious this is, and get a good chuckle from it.
Problem 1: Their map is so boring and uninteresting.
Problem 2: They made it so melee maps, get on the custom map top 10 list, if enough people play them.
Problem 3: People play what's on page 1. Page 1 gets more hits. Nothing changes.
Problem 4: Using fun or not will result in hourlong que, cuz NOONE ELSE think it's fun.
Problem 5: You can never get your map up played, without bugging your friends.
Problem 6: I'm playing the games on page 1, and contributing to the problem.
Ssly.. just let people bookmark a game if they like it, then every week give top page maps a cooldown period of a week or so and reset their map pop.. if people liked it when it was up, they would bookmark it and play, and when it gets of cooldown, it would rise fast enough

They want to show-off that they know their own program, when really, there are a lot of better maps than them, blizzard needs to get good ideas
Just played it... Its not even fun, its just stupid pidly shit lol.
Starcraft master.... None of it is hard....
It should be page 15 garbage....
Well, they made the system, its their right to abuse it :p

This thread is so bitter. I like it.
They have one of the best game editing tools in the known universe (literally.) and they have a brain-dead system that sucks all the power out of it.
Quoting myself here, to save us all the time we would otherwise spend discussing bnet 2.0 yet again:

One notice: As they shit into the forums and comments on the news, I can freely troll on them, at least on the EU homepage.
We've now reached the point where 'popularity system threads suck' is a meme, that's how deep we're in.

I think the starcraft master was pretty fun. I only played and cleared lvls1-26. Brings back memories of micro :)

No good ideas GTFO
Who do you think you are?

Blizzard used to do so, but it always resulted in the "good" maps being forgotten, and the bad maps reaching page 1.

But seriously I really think blizzard puts some of these maps on page one, Dragon RPG... Prime example, it was page one at the top randomly one day...
I looked around and the map was never posted on ANY site...
So I asked the creator how he got it popular he ignored me like a douchebag and changed the subject.
Also you see this Pobes vs Zeelots at the top.... Yet Has anyone ever seen it anywhere online?, Nope because this is a CROCK OF SHIT!!!!
