I know what you mean. Other forums, almost all that i've seen have a feature that lets you find your posts/threads just buy clicking your name. but i have a workaround for this weird site. You would go to the search bar, and you would type in "BorgDragon" and it would bring up a list of all the treads that you have had some input into. unless someone mentions your name in one of them and you never actualy replied. lol
But ether way, this forum is lacking in many of the features that should be here. and many of them are easy to do, it's like they just setup the quickest forum they could just as a side note, then went back to making their news thread. and their Glaxy Wiki (Awesom B.T.W.) I beleive they need to go back to the forums and add stuff, like look at other forums to see what cool stuff they have and impliment it into this one.
aah... actually searching for my own name... as a string, haha. Nice suggestion, don't know why I never thought of it. I guess I just figured the Search was looking for post titles / post threads, and not the entire page :).
Still, would be nice to have it just a click away.
could you please implement the SEA region on the BNet name screen...i still cant acuratly give my self a name (ive put TW their atm, but i dont live in taiwan, i live in Australia )

Edit 1:Also, when I editing my post (like this one), when i hit update, nothing happens to my browser, I have to click on refresh afterwards to see the edited post finalized. When i click on update, it should automatically refresh my browser and page down to my post. Maybe it has something to do with not writing a editing reason? Only when i write an editing reason does the update button works
Nice thread, I'm not quite sure if this has been discussed already but here goes:
Could sc2mapster make publicly available the maps' download stats? Updated weekly or something if it's a huge hassle. I volunteer for the "grunt" work if any.
I feel this could greatly improve mapmakers "chi", and it could possibly be a gateway to organizing an unbiased database for the mass player pool (looking for maps) to steer towards and then (one day) rely upon, bypassing blizz's popularity system.
Of course most maps would just get invariable numbers and that can be a downer, but the most popular ones would have significant numbers to back up their hype on the net...
as for all the proposed ideas in the op, I'm not so sure I have any useful opinions about most... besides... I think sc2mapster is great.
The only one I vote for is "When selecting a thread always show post #1". I think it's a given that you need to read that op even if you intend to only scan (not read) through the whole thread (my o my the growing number of people who do that with everything...)
Ohh and about the posts about strict moderating... warning banning etc... I'll keep quiet for a change.
Hey forum designers!!! Look up CKEditor/FCKEditor (I know, hilarious name). It's basically an open source WYSIWYG text editor you could use that allows for things like HTML editing, file uploading, etc. Not only does it come with a ton of features, but it's highly customizable so you can easily remove features you don't want. I'm using it for a website I'm working on and it's wonderful. It's very intuitive, yet allows a lot of controllable freedom for posters who know HTML. Don't know what you're currently using, but check it out --> www.ckeditor.com. Good to know your options I say.
Hello, I would like to give some suggestions in improving this site.
1. On the front page, remove the Popularity section because its never updated nor used.
2. Bump up the About SC2mapster to the up where Popularity used to be.
3. Remove the What should we do with SYN box.
4. Add Map Night as part of the Current events
5. Create a collapsible box at the top of the forums for in-forum Ajax chatting. (i've asked that many times, u said no, but i still would like it =D)
6. Remove lots of Stickies on some categories due to clutter.
7. Remove me from Team Gambit and QueenGambit productions Team. (This glitch is still here)
8. Have the control panel list the reccent posts you made.
9. Have a Mail symbol next to name to immediately send a private message to that person.
10. Do something with one of these suggestions to show that you care =D
No new suggestions really, but it would make a lot of people's day if some of the things on the first post gets implemented.
I regularly have many topics that i'm in active discussion in, and i'm filling up an already overfilled bookmark list. So in a sense, certain lack of features actually discourages people from being active or helping each other.
There's some serious bugs with the preview / edit / post system because they use the "#link" stuff instead of proper links. Browsers don't recognize those links as "the page should be reloaded" but instead just scroll down to that section on the page. This means that when you click "edit", edit the post and then click "update", you need to reload the page manually for the update to actually show for you. So you can never know if it has actually updated yet before hitting reload... and if it isn't, all your text is gone unless you copied it before hitting update.
I also encountered another weird bug which caused me to lose like 200 words worth of text. While editing a post, I wrote the stuff in the edit box, pressed "preview" and accidentally double-clicked it instead, so the preview didn't show the edit box anymore and it looked just as if I had posted the text. The text was in the post, but when I pressed "edit" again, the text was gone again and I had no way of retrieving it since the preview doesn't open in a new page but instead just replaces the text in the current page (so pressing "back" on the browser doesn't help).
I'm not sure why the site even uses this weird makeshift *cough* forum software instead of one that already works (and uses web standards), but these kinds of bugs should really be taken care of... (just a little annoyed for having to type everything again, but I guess I'll just use notepad from now on... no offense otherwise).

I would like to humbly request the item above be given a higher priority. It would make using the forum so much easier for many users, myself included.
EDIT: it didn't keep the list format first time around.
Hullo. I heard about this site off of TL and on a whim I decided to check it out today, despite knowing basically nothing about mapmaking.
I'm not sure if this has been suggested yet, but.. maybe it'd be a good idea to have one central thread for map ideas? The forum is cluttered with a bunch of threads like "New Map Idea Halo Starcraft" or this or this or this or.. you get the idea.
Granted, this opens up opportunities to get "your" map stolen, but some people just want to share ideas and don't ever intend to actually make the map they're suggesting. If people are concerned about the e-fame, well, I guess if someone takes their idea and makes a wildly popular map without crediting them they can join the games and proudly tell everyone that the original idea for the map was posted by them in this very forum.
Also, the posting quality here is lol. Exhibits A, B, and C. Are the mods here inactive or are the expectations just low?
I didn't check all pages to know if it was already suggested but here's an idea that could be pretty useful in the forums. It's basically <u>a "vote for/against" function for each post</u>, when you agree/disagree with what someone said in a thread... 3 reasons for such a thing:
It will prevent people from quoting just to say "I agree with that" or "yeah I thought so" or "quoted for truth"... you get the idea.
A spammer/troll could be warned if 10+ people consider one of his posts useless/stupid. If a post has more than 10 "I don't like it" tags on it, the moderators are directly warned about the user and they can decide if it's necessary to kick/ban/warn him.<font color="red">*</font>
It could help mappers to know approximately how famous their map is. When members like/dislike a map, its author will know. Could also apply to any custom content (models, third-party tools, etc...).<font color="red">**</font>
<font color="red">*</font><font size="-2"> Alternatively, posts with 15+ negative votes would be shown as spoilers (ie. hidden unless you press a button to show the content) and posts with 30+ negative votes should be removed immediately without implying moderators in the process.</font>
<font color="red">**</font><font size="-2"> Note that the mappers vote system and the "I agree/disagree" thing should not be linked, because a map with very low success (ie. lots of negative votes) doesn't mean the user posting the map should be banned.</font>
Id like to see the option to switch the embedded youtube video from the default hd=1 to an sd version. Im on my phone a lot of the time and i have a combination of limited data and slow dow load speeds (At times), and i find myself waiting over 10 mins for a 30 second video to buffer, which i usually only watch half out of frustration.
Ive taken to using an iphone app to download the scmapster source code and searching for the yt video and copying the link and then going to yt and disabling hd. Its a pain.
pleeeeeeeaseeeeeee change it a little. Even if you just paste the video link below the video?
Oh hey one thing that has been irritating me recently-
I want to check to see how many views my tutorials have (over 10,000 now :D yay)...Anyway you cant check the views unless you see the thread in the forum itself...A simple view's counter would be nice if it was at the top of the actual thread page....Example-
Edit 1:Also, when I editing my post (like this one), when i hit update, nothing happens to my browser, I have to click on refresh afterwards to see the edited post finalized. When i click on update, it should automatically refresh my browser and page down to my post. Maybe it has something to do with not writing a editing reason? Me too, that is annoying. I found if you click 'update' two or 3 times quickly it works.
Also sorry for doubble post, it was an accident. And you can't delete posts... (hint at a possible forum upgrade??)
Look at the top of the page, there's Maps, Assets, Authors, Teams. Wouldn't it make sense to add a Tutorials section there that would function like the other ones? The tutorial listing is nice, but people often forget to add theirs to the list and the tutorial eventually gets lost on page 42 or something.
Users could also have a link (and a counter) under their avatar, leading to all their tutorials (exactly like maps/assets). No more fuss with signatures or making separate posts just to list all your tutorials.
Oh hey- another thing. When you want to see the last time somebody logged in or if they are online at the current time, you have to find a post they made. The info is not shown on their user page for some reason. What I mean is from this post, you guys can see the last time I logged in over here

But if you click on my name to view my 'user profile' you cant find that info.

on the popularity list "http://www.sc2mapster.com/popularity/", there is no mention of the SEA or LA region. could you add those please?
thank you almighty sc2mapster overseers
A way to lock threads when mods want to lock them that works.
/still hangin around, just not as often. delete the SOTS unlocked thread.
