Hi, i just want to say, Why do not people upload maps on sc2mapster? Why such maps as SotiS, Nexus Wars, Catch and Run and new map Death Haven and many others projects not in sc2mapster? People cares about lisense? People are afraid that their map is stolen? You should be happy that your map stolen, so it's good, it means you've done something that works really well. There are many things in maps that are truly unique. We need to produce maps with open source, so we can make our maps even better and better, but if everyone would only download maps on battle.net, it's terrible.
I think they are just worried that someone will get a hold onto it and make it better then what they did and reupload it and since it shows the creator the original creator probs wont get credit and will no longer be a big hit in the sc2 bnet2 community. but i think we all know who really created what if you talk about it here.
as for me i know everyone here can do better then me so i just release mine to all incase they wont to adopt it and make it pro or want to look at data/triggers to learn.
cos it really helps to learn when you got a map of someone elses to view and navigate around and find what is used by what.
just my thoughts
There were a few cases where the non-original publisher's glitched & un-updated version was the more popular one. Can you imagine how bad the original author would feel if the glitched version was more popular? The community would give a false impression of the map and might harm the map's reputation.
Not uploading it to sc2mapster will at the very least prevent unaware map makers from publishing bad versions, whether intentional or not. Some people can still open locked maps via cache so no stopping them.
If they want to learn, they should search the forums, view tutorials, or visit the irc. Generally things in most maps can be learnt this way. There might be exceptions of super complex maps with cool stuff, but then you might have a problem following if you're directly reading from the code.
Intellectual property. When you put 100-200 hours into a map, the last thing you want is someone coming along, adding a few things, changing names here and there and claiming its theirs. I know I wouldn't be too happy with that.
However, if its something built just for fun that is intended just for showcase purposes, there shouldn't be a problem releasing it to public.
1. We don't need 500 nexus wars remakes uploaded to battle.net, a lot of people don't understand that this is no longer the war3 system, maps are uploaded once by the author. I still see people asking people to upload their map here so they can play it.
2. Marketplace is in production when its released I dunno, but how would you feel if your map got a change to it and they put it on the marketplace when its released and they make a fair bit of cash from your hard work? I know I would be royally pissed off.
3. If people want to know how somebody did a certain something in someones map or needs help with triggers, the Development forums are a few clicks below this one, make at thread and ask :) if its been done, someone else if not the same person will be able to explain how they did it. You don't need to copy there triggers and most definitely don't want to, you need to understand what your doing so that you can fix bugs later on.
4. Majority of authors here when they no longer want to keep updating their work, they upload them here or elsewhere or pass them on to someone else to continue the work.
These are my thoughts, and probably a lot of others
Its already very easy to download off b.net. If they want it to be open sourced, they'll just unlock it. Then you can download it directly into the editor. Uploading it again on a website is just extra extra work.
The only reason to upload a map here is it to allow players from a different region to play it. Uploading on Battle.net is not the same as locking your map. You can still edit maps. If Blizzard ever adds cross-region map access, I don't see any reason for map creators to upload their maps on here.
i had 4 or 5 versions of my map online, i even had a problem to get my newer version back on top of the list because there where a n old version uploaded by somebody else and it was more popular after a reset
The project page goes with the download feature...
download link or uploading on any site = showcasing
@b0ne123: just advertise the situation (map theft) on forums... i know you don't wanna be that guy :)
ony community ethics get these issues resolved... not to sound harsh, but the shitstorm the guy would get from players would cheer you up... if players like YOUR map, they deserve YOUR map, not some outdated version ;)
@jaminv:
That's because Debates is the ultimate map you can make with the editor! It requires so much data editing and coding skill, design philosophy, graphical interface, everything! That map is even way better designed than any starcraft 2 campaign maps, that's how great it is. This fact alone guarantees the map to be #1 in popularity. Not only guarantees it, everyone would be playing Debates and nothing else! So it would not only be #1, all other page 1 maps would drop off to less than 100 hours played. Much like everyone only played DOTA and nothing else in war3. That's how awesome Debate is...
And the fact that it isn't #1 means no one is playing it. Because awesome maps gets to #1 place due to everyone loving it. And the fact it isn't #1 means no one is playing because it's just too awesome not to be #1, unless no one is playing....you see and understand now?
I keep my work under wraps, since it is literally hundreds of invested hours.
However, after several post-release patches, I release my content to the public for learning purposes (after removing save algorithms and such). I have done so with the first chapter of my RPG series and I will do so with the rest as their time comes.

I do recall back during Beta, that tordecybombo had his map hijacked and re-uploaded by some retard. Given the state of the popularity system, Its very easy for weak/poor duplicates to somehow by chance over-shadow/surpass the original map. Not very fair or ideal.

i'm currently working on two new fat units, when they are done, maybe i'm going to upload another version here, to allow a look at the core ;)
Boats n' Hoes.
I bet no one knows the maps I made.
I'll give a hint of one: It starts with D. It ends with ates.
Dates?
Is this the first custom map about adult sex?
@hRodrigoAlves:
Denzel Washington Masturbates.
EDIT: No. Dianna Troi Masturbates.
EDIT2: No. Donald and Daffy Playmates.
EDIT3: I give up. What map did you make?
Not everything is about debates, Rodrigo. You are wildly off-topic.
Also, how could anyone possibly not know what maps you have made? You won't shut up about them.

Because it's not finished, of course. These things take time yo.
