In a project my team is working on I have heroes alongside normal units. I wanted the heroes to respawn but my other team member thinks that they shouldn't. I am asking you the community for your opinion.
A Hero should have unlimited lives, with the penalty of an increasing spawn time and/or reduction of resources.
If a hero should be limited to x lives only, then obviously the player will play much more cautiously. But once the hero doesn't have anymore lives left, unless you can still going on playing the game (like continue to build your own army), the player will immediately leave the game. <- You want to avoid this as much as possible.
If the game you're making is more than 60% focused on the hero unit itself then I'd say go for unlimited lives.
If you're making another map ( like Footman Frenzy, where the main focus is the army type that you're producing ), then giving the hero a set number of lives is acceptable.

@Shad0wsEdge: Go
The units will keep on building even after the hero dies.
