Okay, i'm working on a small project, but i need everyones help with Heroes + Abilities!
Basically, you are each an Antivirus program who will be travelling through layers of a Computer system destroying any traces of Viruses.
So, i need around 20 Heroes... And each Hero needs to have atleast 3 Abilities. So... Everyone needs to put on theyre creativity caps and Design some heroes for this map! You will be given credit!
I also need help creating the Abilities since i have no idea on how to... And, i will give credit for creators!
GAMEPLAY
You enter a square battleground where around 150 Viruses will enter, and you must eradicate them before they destroy you. After you remove every Virus from that level, you are teleported back to your HUB where the Mainframe will access the next level of Infection, then after XX amount of seconds you will enter the next level and the Viruses get tougher and tougher after each level and you will encounter really tough Malware and Dangeroues viruses or Bosses (Like MyDoom) to kill.
When your in the HUB you can buy items and upgrades for your hero also.
LAYOUT WANTED
- Hero Name (Needs to have something to do with an Antivirus Program, eg: Kasperskiller (Kaspersky))
- Hero Type (Ranged / Melee / Spell) (Or a combination)
- Starting Health (Must be reasonable and related to hero)
- Starting Magic (Must be reasonable and related to hero)
- Ability 1
- Ability 2
- Ability 3
- etc
(All Abilities must have some similarity to the Chosen Antivirus, and Possible to create)
So to eradicate viruses, you just... shoot bullets at them?
I was thinking it would be a little fancier, something more strategical and innovative, somehow a physical interpretation of the work of a computer program trying to kill off other programs. Given the concepts, I'm sure something unique and interesting could be done for the gameplay.
:) Okay, I'll be thinking out loud here, throwing random ideas!
The work of an antivirus is to eliminate viruses while trying to avoid dealing damage to the whole system. So players may have to work to prevent harm being done to the system.
The antivirus programs may have some heavy weaponry in their arsenal, it doesn't mean it can easily be employed in all cases. Even if a virus is located, heavy attacks doing splash damage could cause serious harm to the system and other measures should them be employed, perhaps trying to isolate the virus or make it flee to an area more open to attacks.
Some viruses could disguise themselves, hide amongst the system files. Some viruses will fight back. Other viruses could replicate. Others could react badly when attacked, going on a rampage and dealing serious damage to the system (something the players want to avoid!).
So each level could be a computer system with X life, where viruses must be eliminated while dealing as little damage as possible to the system. The idea is to end with a functional computer, not destroy it entirely along with the viruses.
Random ideas, but there might be something good in there!
Maybe, I was thinking for gameplay, you could be your 1 antivirus program fighting off all the viruses, but across the map, there will also be programs that could be constantly spawning for a hostile player. Both virus and antivirus players could kill these programs and when killed the program joins their cause. Programs normally can't fight, but if it joins either virus or antivirus, it may attack.
However, there's also the issue you have with gameplay. It depends on what you want, but you can turn this into a few things.
1: Team v team with antivirus vs virus where each team tries to kill as many enemies as possible or capture as many prgorams as possible.
2: Arena based where the players are all antivirus and you have to complete 1 mission at a time until finished.
3: Something like the impossible missions maps where you try to complete a nearly impossible mission against the virus.
4: A melee style game where you control a hero and you also ahve to build an antivirus base and construct an army and destroy the virus bases.
5: Story based map where you try and complete a series of objectives trying to defeat the virus completely.
Looks like any of the above would be really fun. Depends on if you want this to be a minigame or a regular long based game.
Love the ideas, it has given me some ideas also...
How about when your in a Layer of the Infection, there is all these System File Units wandering around aimlessly, and being attacked by the viruses, you must remove the viruses before they kill the Files (And in the Middle could be the CPU, which can also be attacked) And you could get bonuses after each layer for the % of Files survived...
But it could make it more annoying, All i really wanted to create was a fast-paced fighting map (The Matrix Reloaded on Warcraft 3) They are just fun maps to play, rather than completely overhauling it so everyone becomes confused and or bored..

I think the first idea sounds fun. I never played matrix reloaded on wc3 so I couldn't tell you how I feel about that. Also if there's one thing I learned so far about mapping its that you should worry about getting the major mechanics and gameplay in place and then add content later. So you should hammer out the core gameplay first and worry about getting 20 heroes together later.
If you feel that way, then perhaps you want a minigame. Maybe there is the player team and the computer team. The player team tries to destroy all of the virus and whatever else you want. Meanwhile the virus try to control the map. Perhaps the map could have like 5 "folders" and each one can be corrupt or cured by virus and antivirus units/heroes. Then there could be regular programs that can be corrupt by virus and cured by antivirus. The programs when corrupt will just walk around aimlessly. The corrupt programs will fight for the virus. Corrupt folders will spawn virus. Cured folders will spawn programs and maybe 1-3 protectors to defend it. The players simply rush out and try to kill all the virus and win the game. You could also include different modes...up to you.
Maybe each virus type can only be killed if a specific combination of behaviors is applied to them? Like you have to cast spell A on them and then spell B before the first effect goes off. Calling the wrong order could have some weird effects, like creating virus duplicates or buffing them somehow. It doesn't need to be the rule, maybe just some specific virus types work like that.
How about the Opposite... Your the Virus... You need to destroy the layers of a firewall, and get to the antivirus to remove it and infect the computer!!
The term virus is often used incorrectly to specify malware. You could take some of the different kinds of malware, and make them in the game.
A virus is a piece of software that infects other files on your computer. It then spreads when the files are copied from one computer to another.
I guess in this case, that would be something like infested files that must be repaired (cleansed), quarantened untill the nessecerry tech for repairing has been achieved, or deleted (killed).
A worm is an independent piece of software that utilizes security faults in the target computer to copy itself there (without the need for infesting files).
I guess this is what most closely resembles what you guys are already talking about.
A trojan horse is a program that looks to be legit, but that infact does some bad stuff to your computer.
So, a malware program that disguises itself as a legit file, to trick the user/anti-virus into letting it pass.

Yo momma
To offer suggestions, I think we would really need a lot more information about what the gameplay should look like...
The concept is potentially good but it's not clear what you have in mind.
Updated + Added Pictures Also added Gameplay Information.

What about a ability called Blue screen: A massive squared AoE attack that kills everything and makes the terrain there unpathable forever? o.O
