I think the solution is to get someone at Blizzard to try to make a map popular without putting the Blizzard map on it, featuring it, or talking it up on Blizzcon. That might convince them of something. Not sure how to get them to do that though; you would need to be completely insane to make a map that 95% chance nobody will play (everyone on this forum including myself).
Here is how I fixed my PTR after it was looping and then said "The PTR is not available".
1. Open your StarCraft II install directory.
2. Delete the VersionsTest folder.
3. Delete the Test folder.
4. Delete StarCraft II Public Test.exe and StarCraft II Editor Public Test.exe.
5. Run the repair tool (Support/Repair.exe).
6. Launch NORMAL StarCraft II and let it patch up. If you launch the Public Test first again, you will fubar your install. (This is how you broke it originally)
7. Finally launch Public Test again and it should work.
Blizzard's way of showing custom maps is so shitty that I won't be motivated to make any maps since there would probably be no players joining it. (The "Looking for Custom Games" channel doesn't cut it)
I suggest that they make a game list where a player can shout out a map he wants to play. You know a very popular/featured map would get a tolerable waiting time. But a game that you made/love that isn't popular would probably get an infinite waiting time (Unless you can convince players to wait infinitely too).
I've got two concepts in mind right now.
1) Players can shout out a map with a short description that they want others to play in. This will also benefit people looking for unique, interesting or non-mainstream games. Of course, unless you're a dumbass or unless this concept becomes the norm for looking for games for all Starcraft players, really popular games wouldn't need a shout out. I think this will make the Starcraft experience a little healthier than the repetitive game types we see every single day. (TD)
2) There will be a "Map Testing" list where creators can get bored players to join in. This is obviously beneficial to map makers while still giving joiners an interesting experience. (Since you're playing with the creator himself and you're playing a unique game) If the ratio of map makers hosting their projects vs joiners is a little imbalanced, you could have a feature wherein map makers would have to join another game hosted by another map maker before they could host their own. (Of course I'm only addressing a possible situation wherein joiners are too few and map maker hosting is too abundant.)

i think maybe he's referring to songuku... uhhh my post?
Each patch is a friggin goose chase to find if everything is still "working online", most are wild but sometimes it's compulsory: the mod is fucked from the start and you're facing two options:
My wip just got fucked... maybe i should fix it... which do you think is quicker? Putting on binoculars on everything or re doing with an eye for everything...
At least re doing affords me the luxury of strengthening the concepts (refining gameplay/stats .. avoiding previous mistakes and doing things the proper way you know is gonna work).. implement new stuff (while publishing at each stage, for each stata of modification, just to be sure it works) blablabla)..
..or loosing my mind trying out every little shite i can think of until it works again...?
Ohh... i lost the melee shite in this particular patch... mod+map published and when i try to play/test it it's got no players... i don't think it's more than custom status shite... maybe fixable... but i'm bored with blizz's online mapmaker experience... too much time spent on "maintenance", chairlag, cap cap cap, .. don't get me wrong i like my galaxy.. but in fact it's just on loan... and i despise that quite a not so little bit..
Seen? They fixed the whole system as I expected :P
Just be patient, that's the rule with blizzard. They are not deaf, they are only slow and they don't say anything about their plans until they are done!
Edit:
oh and they actually added some additional features that I think noone thinked about like the fun or not thing. I think it will be an awesome way to give good maps a good boost without allowing people to self rate their own maps thanks to the randomness... simply GREAT
Edit2:
and BTW why aren't we talking about the huge changes on the galaxy editor?

fixed the system? I dont believe untill I see it. For example if the like/dont like section is going to be all 1st page maps (marine arena/nexus wars etc...) nothing has changed. If the game is complex most people will just hit DONT LIKE and leave, resulting all new maps going to bottom again.
somehow I do not see the system being finished/ready. As I said before, its probly improvement, but I do not believe its even close to perfection...
Im still waiting for match making for custom maps. It could be something like, when you click the main map it opens sub menu which has map gategory for high, mid, low skill players. The map maker could choose to use or not to use this feature and they could determine the limits of high/mid/low -skill level required for joining the map (trough banks, not perfect, but nothing seems to be nowadays).
Optimal would be if the players could name the maps, but I do not see that happening in sc2
The "Fun or Not" feature looks interesting. I think it'll be hampered by most maps on b.net being unfinished/unplayable though. Would be nice if once a month or something, Blizzard purged all maps with under x hours played. Of course, people could re-upload them, but this would keep those stagnating and unfinished maps off the "Fun or Not" playlist.
That and I'd enjoy seeing Rodrigo rage once a month.
No... like.. could you guys please argue about pop in the proper thread.. so as to provide galaxy changes to be prominently produced on this featured as "patch bla" thread..????

After testing a map via Fun or Not, you can report a map for being "Broken" - presumably this excludes it from being in the random map pool until updated.

How? The ONLY way to like\don't like a map is finding it through the "send me to a random map" button. You don't get to CHOOSE what map you get. I doubt many people will keep clicking the "Find Random Map" button until they get marine arena and liking only it, and nothing else. People who wanna play marine arena will just join it regularly via popularity list.
I like the Fun or Not idea. What it basically does is allow players to quickly join and play random custom maps. Other players joining the Fun or Not will be directed to the latest hosted map. I agree with Rodrigo on how Blizzard should do some kind of erasing of old maps published. I am talking about the ones that were published months ago and hasn't been finished/updated.

Errm, join and/or create random lobby to fill. I already thought that out more than few months ago.

Yah me too. I am glad to see it here now. I am sure there are spontaneous custom map players like me who is gonna to participate and comment about maps and report broken ones.

Talking to me? I tried it and although it's a great step forward in custom gaming, it's not going to help map makers get testers.
