I did this. I made Nexus Word Wars and moved to it. The map was doing good, top 1 on battle.net, over 9,000 games/hour. Then, 1 week later, Blizzard bans it, and since then, the map is on the bottom of the list.
Yeah... because the popularity system is broken... They are working on it though, as is shown by the new PTR.
There are hundreds of maps out there how are you expecting people to find yours without advertising?
But Kanaru is right, it is unrealistic (though possible) to expect your map to become popular without any advertising. And I don't think there is too much Blizzard can do about it. The amount of categories they would need to get 2 or 3 pages for each, is likely much too large. Not to mention that new maps will quickly make those categories larger.
I'm positive you're wrong about everything you're saying, and that people with your mentality damage the map system even more. People with your mindset don't just not help the game, they make it worse.
I wish you wouldn't advocate this view.
I'm not sure what to say to prove that you're wrong. But I know you are.
I would love to say that advertisement isn't needed and you should be able to just publish your map and expect popularity, but that would be lying.
Should I lie to appease the general public? Agree mindlessly to everyone else yelling at Blizzard to make my map popular for no apparent reason? There's only so much Blizzard can do, and it's obvious they're working to make it easier to get your map out there. There is never a point where you should say that it is unnecessary to advertise in some way, and as I've said, advertising isn't always done the way you would call "advertising".
I'm not complaining. I'm trying to give objective input on this system that I feel will make it better for everyone.
The point of my post is that the reason my map was successful without advertising is that there are only 3 or so pages of TD maps. It's easy for players to find and try new ones.
TD's are one of the most cloned genre.
If there were 7 - 10 categories, this would be the case for maps of all genres.
I never said it was hard. I said TD's are successful because Blizzard added a TD category. If Blizzard added a "social map" category, your "social map" would be successful.
People love variety when variety is handed directly to them with not additional effort on their part (such as clicking show more more than once).
Vexal, okay then, but I think with the volume of maps which there will be in the future or even now, it would be impractical for Blizzard to try and provide enough categories so that there are 2 or 3 pages of each.
You are right though, there are a lot of categories that should be added, and they would no doubt enhance visibility for many maps as well as make it easier for players to find something they are looking for.
To tell you the truth, you're sort of a whiner. I could give a shit if my map isn't popular as long as I think it's fun and I enjoyed making the map. I mean seriously, all you do is complain about Nexus Wars and how all of your maps are better and you always want to "get" at Blizzard for liking other people's maps. Grow up, you deserved the ban. -_-
Holy shit, I couldn't agree with you more! That, and the whole add more categories thing. I never thought I'd see the day that we peacefully agreed on not one, but two things.
By the way, Vexal isn't saying we need a category for every itty bitty map type out there. He is just proposing expanding the current two that are available to something more reasonable like ten. Surely, there are more than two (TD, Tug) popular genres out there. I see no reason to be against this change.
This thread has merely turned into one of the debate games.
Rodrigo, you know we are cool, but your game is just a trollolol game. It has no high replayability, and yes it was fun for a one off thing, it is not Starcraft, the majority of people come on Battle net to play a game, not bitch at each other unless its after winning said game. The masterpiece of debates could only have been created by the biggest troll of them all, you. And yes, I think its funny the way you troll Blizzard, you really gotta get off your high horse - if you keep poking the dogs ass, and that dog turns around and bites you, you got no one to blame except yourself.
This topic has been done to death ... you know they are fixing it in the next patch, you knew they always would, but they would just take their time. Your level of bitching of the official forums is just going to piss people off, no one likes people standing over them bitching about the work they are doing constantly. Blizzard stated that there was an ongoing issue, and I understand the anger at them not stating anything more - this is Blizzard's fault, they keep their mouth shut about nearly everything - this is how they fucked everything up in the first place.
if he posts people get to see it until they close it "again" for eu! ...? (too much hassle i know, but it works on ytub) anyway reach=pc, me got a grannysmith, nomore microshiotte (ever if i can help it)... and I cannot be bothered... just listened to my kid singing it (priceless) so i'm good... thank you 4 the thought :)

Of course, and I totally agree I just meant to point out that as the volume of maps increase we will end up with a similar problem of many maps not circulating and being left at the bottom. New categories is a partial solution.
I do believe I explained it several times. I have a feeling you don't read my entire posts. It's difficult to communicate with you, and honestly, not really worth the time considering how this has simply gone in circles.

Then explain the success of my map.
Chance. Besides then, if you have been successful without any need to advertise, why are you complaining? You're living the dream.

To make a Tower Defense popular isn't that hard. I want to see you make a Social map popular. :)

Not really.

It bothers me when people say "could give a shit" or "could care less".
It doesn't make sense.
It's "couldn't give a shit" or "couldn't care less".

...what?
Sorry I was answering the post above mine... didn't feel the need to "quote or reply"
Funsies: i was gonna type a comment to rodrigo and i had to answer first...
(I stated that the "embargo" on utube makes stuff accessible for a little while before they "censor" for different countries... no?
I was advocating that one can re post a vid, so as to re use this small window of time/freedom)
