How do you guys get inspiration for your map design? I was just wondering because I played Vexal tower defense and finally realized the map was the shape of a V. I think you guys can put the pieces together there. :P So it just got me thinking, how do you guys get your inspiration or ideas?
Depends on the map I'm making. It generally comes up naturally when I've got an idea of how playing through the map is going to be. I've used dreams as reference before though, and probably will again.
The V was a coincidence. It was absolutely the only design I could think of involving two 5-player teams, each with one rear player with 2 columns of 2 players leading into him that wasn't already used by someone else's TD in war3.
I came up with the design through trial and error.
I tried making a similar TD in War3, and it didn't look like a V at all. I believe it is a V in SC2 because the map sizes translate differently. Everything is much bigger. And the cliffs are diagonal.
Vexal, I had to sign up for an account just to say how much I enjoy your tower defense map. I have been playing since you released last year. I actually really only play your map I am not a big fan of regular starcraft and only purchased the game for the custom maps. Wasn't impressed with the custom game selection then your map came out! My comp went down and took me about a month to get it fixed. Was happy to see the updates when I got back. Finally I am getting arcane down where I can actually pwn pretty nice with it. My only problem isn't with you it all the mofo's who leave either in lobby or as soon as we get into game. I spend more time in the lobbies then actually playing. Not sure if your done updating the map but is it possible to make an in game lobby system to switch spots around as soon as you join into the map? I think this would help reduced rage quits. Usually if a newer player gets anchor everyone above will leave. If we could somehow move people around before the game started I think we could get people to stay easier. Anyways I really just wanted to give you some props and say how much I enjoy your map. Keep up the good work! Can't wait for your next one!

Well, what pops into my head is what I want to do. For me, the problem is I know what I want done, but I do not know how to end up at my end result :(

To sum up, I had no grand vision. In order to get the functionality I wanted out of the terrain, it had to be a V. I got lucky.
